Dil Dhadakne Do (2015)
highly disappointed
To start off with, Zoya's last movie was Zindagi na milegi dobaara, which I liked down to bits and pieces and had rated it with 10. Coming to Dil Dhadakne do, something vital seems to be missing, maybe ZNMD's charm? I'll try not to compare it with ZNMD.
Ranveer singh is the Saviour of this movie. His character well carved and he does justice to what is given to him.
Priyanka Chopra is good as Ayesha and her chemistry with her On-screen brother is superb.
Anil Kapoor hasn't lost his charm yet. He is perfectly casted. But, still, just for fun, too young to play a father's role?
Shefali Shah as Neelam Mehra compliments Anil Kapoor. As a classy and super elite mother, she does quite well.
Anushka Sharma has a "cameo" kind of a role. Nothing much for her.
Farhan Akhtar is good as always in a special appearance.
Rahul Bose gets into the character easily and does a fine job.
Special mention to Aamir Khan and Pluto Mehra. *Watch the movie*
The story lags and drags till intermission. There are some genuine laughs throughout the movie but major part of the movie is dull. Zoya Akhtar, unfortunately, wasn't able to wand out a magical spell which she did on ZNMD.
Music is quite average except "Gallan Goodiyan" which is a 'One shot' song.
An average One time watch if you go in without any Expectations.
Roy (2015)
Heartbroken!
Okay, now when you're a hugeee fan of an actor whose movie is releasing (read: Ranbir Kapoor), you go out of your way to watch their movie (though a cameo role). I went, I sat, and then I felt like walking out! I sat through it because I had paid for it.
Coming to the movie: Roy is a movie about a writer (Kabir)who is on a writers block. What does he do? He goes to Malaysia with an incomplete script (tryin' to be Spielberg?). The plot is just a giveaway. Within the 10 minutes of the movie, you know the climax. Roy is a character of Kabir's movie. Ayesha is the love interest of Kabir and Tia again a character of Kabir's movie is Roy's love interest. (Confusing? The movie's more confusing!)
Director tried to make an 'Intelligent art movie' which backfired big time. The only thing that's good in this movie is the cinematography and music. The locations are superb but who cares? You're too bored at that point of time.
Acting wise: No-one has acted actually. Arjun was average and Jacqueline in a double role as well. What was heart-breaking was, Ranbir Kapoor. The man whom i idolize starred in such a 'pathetic' movie. I just don't want to talk about it. Hopefully Bombay Velvet brings Ranbir's Stardom back.
Songs are good, but a complete misfit in the movie, though i found that the only thing going into the movie's way along with its visuals.
Overall, the movie is way too boring to handle. Skip this one.
I (2015)
Visually Stunning, Heavily boring!
Okay, now here's the thing; this movie is a huge disappointment for me. I feel bad for Vikram, the efforts he put in this one was huge but unfortunately for him, the script didn't supported.
Iam a fan of Shankar's work. I found enthiran good compared to "I". But this time around, he disheartened me big time. The heartbreak is comparable to if Rajkumari Hirani gives a bad Hindi movie. He did take Indian cinema up a few notches in the visual department but unfortunately, that stays there.
This is a Vikram show. He's the show stealer. He takes the cherry, cake and the whole bakery! You feel for his character. Kudos to him. Amy supported Vikram well. She has a meaty role and does fine. Santhanam gives in comical kick and is enjoyable. Suresh Gopi has an important role and just does OK. Upen Patel, just like his stint in bollywood, wont last down south as well!
Music by A.R Rehman is awesome. My personal favourite being "Issaq thaari" or known as "Mersalaayitten" down south. I felt that some songs could've been edited out and let the story flow, not to happen though.
Visuals are stunning. The scenes in china gives an awesome experience but for me, that whole china section was unwanted. The cycle stunt scene (shown in the trailer) is ridiculous and senseless. The movie tends to go over the top quite a few times!
All in all Iam highly disappointed with Shankar's "I". Watch it for Vikram Vikram and Vikram. *Feeling cheated by the trailer* Ps: Watch 'anniyan' (Aparichit) instead!
