The Silent Child (2017)
Thought Provoking
Short films, to me, have always seemed liked the most challenging aspect of cinema. Expectation is at the same level as a full feature length to grab attention and get the audience to care about the plot and those involved but so many struggle to find that connection. Thats not the case for The Silent Child.
Looking into the life of Libby, a young deaf child, and her struggles to be understood by those around her is not only emotional but gripping as we go through the journey with her family who are struggling to adapt to her needs and are concerned about her ability to do well in the future and a social worker who wants her to enjoy her childhood and in turn learn the how to communicate using sign language.
The film balances the emotion of the story with the message of the difficulty children in Libby's shoes go through. For me this was a 20 minute emotional rollercoaster as the view point of all involved is shown and the end result shows that more needs to be done to make sure that all are given the support they need
Bulla... Big Fat Gypsy Gangster (2011)
Simply Awful
To get straight to the point just please don't watch this film. I know you read see this on reviews a lot but this genuinely is the worst film I've ever seen! Normally I can tolerate a bad film as I can understand that the writers had an idea and unfortunately it hasn't worked out as they had planned. In the case of this film there can't of been a plan. The plot has no structure (or actual point), script is all but non existent and the acting is shocking. I decided to watch this one Saturday night as it was a new title with an on demand service and I really wish I could have my time back. I didn't want to just write a negative review but attempting to find a positive from this showing, for me, is impossible. My advice if you're really looking to kill time is to go find a wall of wet paint and watch it dry. I promise it will be more entertaining
