Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
LOL
This movie was so bad (at almost everything) that I had to rate and review and see others reviews before I've finished it.
At first, you don't realize it's bad while you're shown scenes of a farm and you wonder where it's all going then suddenly, while watching the movie unfold that there have already been too many slow motion shots and you're not even that deep into the movie yet.
The acting isn't *all* bad, but a lot of it is laughable, and there are characters that simply aren't explained or make any sense -- such as these two skull masked sort of "priests" that follow the main antagonist around, you just have no idea what they're even there for other than to be some ominous aesthetic.
The guy from Sons of Anarchy is in it and he is using the worst Irish accent , that makes it hard to really take him serious, despite having a serious roll.
To describe this movie in a word: Corny.
Regular Show: California King (2016)
Gareth = Jareth = California King
I was watching and the episode before it is when the king of Synthos , Gareth, gets returned to his rightful place as king -- and I've always thought that the name Gareth was sort of an homage to Jareth from Labyrinth, with him being British and of course the whole rock and roll (think Ziggy Startdust) look and mentality...
Then I see this episode and I couldn't have been happier to see it -- they nailed so many references, to finding Ludo, and the bog of eternal stench; they of course couldn't use the exact music, but even the theme music was so very close to the original that it left no doubt in my mind.
Anyway, I had to race here to confirm it, and shout my praises <3.
Moonfall (2022)
Good Actors / Bad Movie
The movie has a good many well known actors whom I like, and honestly was surprised to find them acting in such a turn of a movie. But on the flip side, I wasn't able to stop watching despite how terrible the movie was; kind of like when I watched Titanic II -- it was just so bad, I couldn't look away.
Ultimately though, there were just a ton of corny moments throughout, with good actors doing their best with what they have, and the unknown actors just glad to be in a movie I guess.
I'm just shocked through and through by the ridiculous plot, the insane budget the movie had, and how despite all that it still managed to make me cringe.
Big Yikes.
The Hangover (2009)
Dumb Funny
This movie was pretty good for how stupid it was, and of course there are some *really* stupid parts in this movie
But in the end, this movie has grown on me, due to the star studded cast most likely. If this movie had lesser stars in it (all known for their parts in equally stupid movies) , I don't think this movie would have ever held up.
Finch (2021)
Didn't Finish It
This is one of those movies that you simply know early on isn't for you; once I realized that this was essentially going to be like every other post apocalyptic movie of its kind, I really couldn't stay engaged with it. And I couldn't help but think this was some strange re-imagining of I Am Legend.
Bummer, but I couldn't really get into it.
Home Sweet Home Alone (2021)
Couldn't Make Through
I honestly tried to watch the entire movie, but I only made through to about 20 minutes in before deciding the movie was entirely too cringe-worthy to give any more time to.
Also, in this one, the kid who is "protecting" his home is essentially the criminal...
I love Asling Bea but I'm sorry to see her in such a terrible movie. I would still say give it a watch and see if you like it, but honestly it's full of tired references and ultimately leaves me feeling like it was time and money wasted. Don't waste yours.
Awake (2021)
A Solid Try
I can tell that this movie was a bit amateur, but honestly I don't mind. I know that this formula of "the world is ending" isn't quite new , but I applaud a new take on it, and their efforts in trying something "new" even if it isn't exactly a new concept. Like, I love alien movies so that defines the genre, but if all we ever got was Alien vs. Predator movies then it would be so boring, kind of like film today has largely gotten boring due to remakes and recycling ideas and literally the same stories.
So my hat really is off to these guys for making something a little bit new.
But I felt that it was a little too cheesy to hit any benchmarks of being a favorite. Still I hope to see more movies that push the ideas out some more, that challenge one to be creative and a movie that doesn't explain it all to you all the time -- at least not in a literal sense like this movie sometimes did.
Give it a watch, not terrible all in all -- there were some truly suspenseful moments which I enjoyed.
2067 (2020)
Cringe
I have watched the movie all the way through, purely for my love of all things science-y , and there were some cool visual effects here and there, although I get the feeling that they spent their whole budget on making their time travel portle look cool.
The movie makes very little sense most of the time, and they only include plot devices for them to call back on later, but in a very clunky way that leaves no room for any real attachment to the characters -- and everyone is basically just a huge emotional wreck.
I really wanted to like this movie, but I can't really recommend it to anyone; but still, feel free to watch it and find out for yourself.
Mars Attacks! (1996)
It Gets Better Every Time You Watch It
Just like the title says, I found myself liking this title more and more and honestly realizing some actors were in it that I had not realized previously since this movie came out when I was 6, and I don't think I ever fully appreciated the level of skill accumulated in this movies cast. What made me come and leave a review this time was noticing that Jack Black ( Billy Glen) was the brother of the doughnut shop kid and he was putting the rifle together blindfolded. I am not sure what made me notice it, because Jack Black looks so different than he does these days (he's actually pretty thin and well built, it's no wonder I never noticed him before)
Anyway, the more I watch this movie, the more it grows on me like some other reviews have mentioned and I can see that now and confirm it's truth.
If you've never seen this movie, you absolutely must.
Nice Dreams (1981)
Not Worth The Hate it Gets
I really only came to write this review because I saw in some of their other movie reviews how much hate this movie was getting so I made it a point to come here and write this review along with a rating I find suitable to me. I mean, this is probably one of my favorite CnC movies , but that just goes to show you how one person is different from another. I saw a lot of hate for this movie on the "Still Smokin' " reviews, and I get why Still Smokin' might get some flak, consider it did seem a bit rushed , and I think that's most likely due to the fact that Cheech Marin was at that time getting tired of doing the stoner style movie (read Tommy Chongs book, he goes into it a bit more and I think you'll probably like it)
Anyway, I love this movie, and if you're a CnC fan then you don't need anyone telling you to watch it. Lol..
Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016)
One of the Best Movies I've seen in a While
This movie was refreshing, and a although it has been out since 2016 it felt new in an age where movies are seemingly recycled rather than out. There must have been a dozen times throughout this movie I found myself choking up with emotion and I was grateful for it, there were ups and downs, and even the downs were up in the end. I wholeheartedly recommend this movie to anyone who has yet to see it.
