Deep Family Secrets (1997 TV Movie)
2/10
Based on true story? SPOILER
24 December 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I was just watching a Forensic Files marathon on Court TV. The episode was identical to the plot of this movie, right down to the incest secret and the affair-with-the-sister subplot. I don't recall any Based on a True Story disclaimer, but the case does have MOW written all over it. Apparently it chronicles the real homicide of Ruby Morris by her husband Earl, sentenced to 25 years to life for her murder. Just goes to show you, truth can be stranger than fiction, because I thought the Lifetime plot was contrived and a more than "a stretch" insofar as believability goes. I'm with the other posters who said the acting was bad. I didn't notice it with all of the players, though. It was really the lead character, the daughter, whose performance was bad.

Homicide: Life on the Street: The Subway (1997)
Season 6, Episode 7

Heartbreaking, Disturbing, Excellent Performances
12 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
If I weren't such a D'Onofrio fan, I would never have put myself through the discomfort of watching this episode. But Vincent didn't disappoint...he was awesome. Still, the episode, with its "implied gore" similar to the film Saw, was very disturbing. The plot line entails John Lange, a salesman, becoming pinned between the subway platform and the train. From the onset, the medic (whose bedside manner was about two degrees chillier than a Fudgsicle), makes it plain that Lange is a goner. So Braugher's character dispatches two not-so-motivated cops to find Lange's jogger girlfriend. I would have been sated, as would the D'Onofrio character, if he'd have had Sarah, a priest and a fat, greasy cheeseburger before the closing credits, but it wasn't in the script. Overall, though, good writing and expected great performances by the dependable D'Onofrio and Braugher made it worth watching.

Amber's Story (2006 TV Movie)
5/10
Distracting accent
5 January 2007
I think Elizabeth Rohm is from Law & Order? I only watch Criminal Intent, so I'm not familiar with any of her other work. But her accent in the Amber movie made it clear that she's not a Southerner. Her accent was such a distraction that I could barely watch the first story.

The second part, with Nichole, was much more watchable. The abductor was perfectly cast (creepy like an obscene phone caller), and the other actresses gave taut performances. I will say, though, that if the real Glen looked anything like the actor version, Sharon should have seen warning signs way before she did. Creepy.
