Tango & Cash (1989)
2/10
I never understood why anyone liked this film.
14 December 2013
I didn't give this film a 1 because it was a film after all and it wasn't a boring home movie filmed on a cine 8 camera so it has to be worth a 2. I was advised by my friend to watch this film a long time ago, probably when it first came out and I couldn't understand why he said it was the best film ever. Obviously for me it wasn't. I like the actors both Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone but the plot was just not good in my mind and it kind of sat on the wall of stupid and could easily fall into the pool of nonsense. I don't really have much to say but as Buddy films go, the Lethal Weapon films blow this film out of the water. You have to ask yourself if it was that good a film why was there no sequels? Tango and Cash not for me but some loved it. It must be just one of those films that is equally hated as loved. Watch it try it out if you agree with me the stop button is always close at hand.

Horror that scares the crap out of you for realism!
14 December 2013
Someone told me to watch this film and when I watched it I thought "Oh! This isn't so bad!" Thing is because it is based on a true story, you wonder how much of it was true. Even if it was a small part it still makes me wonder could we be possessed like the character or even the real life person who it was based on.

I have watched many scary horror films in my time and many of them to me were comical. I just find comedy in horror (probably because it helps me get through the film a lot easier). I remember watching 'The Exorcist' at age twelve and I think then it was less scary than when I watched it recently. But this film, it kind of sucks you in, you get involved with the characters and then you start to believe the film adaptation of the real life person from this 'based on a true story' story is actually real.

I watched this film on my own and when the film finished it was exactly 3.00 a.m. in the morning which is the part scared me. Let's just say I was sniffing around the house for smoke and checking all the doors and leave it at that. A well crafted film, very real and sure to scare you. If you like films like 'Chainsaw Massacre' then maybe this film may not scare you but if you liked the film 'The Exorcist' then watch this film. And top tip to get the fear factor, watch so that the film finishes at 3.00 a.m. and alone for full effect.

Love Actually (2003)
10/10
Wonderful film, very British but the comedy is universal.
14 December 2013
First of all this film has to be one of the best feel good movies ever in my opinion. All of the characters are realistic enough to be believable. You will find all of these characters or a double of them in UK. The comedy does not flow all the way through continuously and there are scenes of deep realistic and sad scenes. All of the scenes flow well into one another which is difficult when you are dealing with many characters and in many different locations. They couldn't have put the scenes in a better line-up and all the actors were well chosen for each role. The Christmas Office party, the unrequited love, the office vamp, the infidelity, the love, the childhood crush, many of the things that bring this film together. A true masterpiece, unlike Valentine's Day, which seemed to be an American stab at trying to make a US version of Love Actually that didn't quite hit the mark. That's because you need some British actors to play all the American parts, that way you get the humor and the accent.

It is always hard to mold many pieces of film footage together to get a marvel like this film but the beginning and the end which I believe was filmed in the arrivals lounge in Heathrow epitomizes the act of Love, Love of a lover, love of a husband, a wife, love of a son and daughter, grandparents, friends, love actually live and real and not at all faked.

The film will make your Christmas feel more special, make you feel more love in yourself and the world. We are all of the human race and love is a difficult and sometimes heart wrenching business but we all have the capacity to love and although the film is a comedy with tinges of sadness, I hope people who watch this film realize, "Love is all around". I am not usually like this about films with love in them, so I will now retreat to a quiet place and find myself a big bucket. But you guys feel free to love this film!

The Holiday (2006)
10/10
Light hearted but well written film flitting between UK and USA.
14 December 2013
I gave this film a 10 because it is my go to film for Christmas time. I think over time many more people will appreciate this film. What is not to like about it? It is a film that is not offending anyone, at least as far as I know. It is a film with no violence unless you class Jack Black as beating on his film score writing piano keyboard as violence. It has two love interests in the film although the one between Jack Black and Kate Winslet seems a little too platonic, although Jude Law and Cameron Diaz get it on.

The film is well scripted from start to finish and I think the only reason the film doesn't get high marks on IMDb is because people who voted from UK are probably not too fond of the US part and people who voted from the US may not prefer the UK part. It is hard to please everybody but the soundtrack is superb and the comedic value throughout is also superb. It is definitely a feel good movie and for me at the end of the film I feel good. It has some ups and downs but overall it reminds me that we all have flaws and we have to overcome them to get the benefit of the human condition. Love it or hate it, watch it twice to double check if you really meant to give this really cool film a 6. If it is not a 10 then at least between 8-9. Come on! The film Valentine's Day got 5.6 rating and that was pretty rank even though it did have a mass of big stars. Flood a film with too many big named stars with small roles and you have a Nefertiti complex on the go, narcissism on tap, fighting to be the best and possibly failing with the script and the acting in the process.

But come on this film, you gotta love it!

Westworld (1973)

WestWorld
27 July 2013
I am giving WestWorld a 9 out of 10 not because it was near perfect film but more because the idea itself was so futuristic and still today the idea of a park of this nature is not too far off in the distant future.

The pace of technology means we could eventually be having shoot-outs with robots (sorry! androids! - don't annoy them!), we could eventually be sitting in ancient Rome being fed by slave girls. The possibilities are endless dependent on the technology being there and with films like AI this shows a future in a similar vain.

The film was not flawless, it did have as many say, "many holes" but overall the idea was stellar, the cast of actors fairly believable and the sets not too shoddy for the time and the kinds of effects they had in their effect kit were sufficient.

Other actors in the roles of the two friends could have made this film a bigger hit but overall they were as I said believable.

As for today the effects in sfx box of tricks are much more than in the day, so if any film is screaming out for a remake it is this one. Put Tom Cruise in it, Gwyneth Paltrow, Robert Downey Junior, Johnny Depp and even Mina Suvari as a robot and with all the effects on top, you may have got yourself a winning film.

After all this film is every schoolboy and some schoolgirl's fantasy to be in a fake world and live out their fantasies by shooting up the baddies and not going to jail and by making love and not worrying about babies or diseases among other fantasies.

Remake, Remake, Remake - Screaming for it and a 10 out of 10 remake.

Hairdresser Love
27 July 2013
This is a strange little film. Intriguing to say the least. A man sees a woman he loves, she is a hairdresser, he then marries her hence Hairdresser's Husband. It is well shot and the strange part comes because he asks the hairdresser to marry him the first time he meets her.

There is an intense love between them and this plays out to the end of the film. Not a huge amount happens in the film but it is just a beautiful little film to watch. If you watch it with a Hairdresser you love then this may pay dividends. You can ask her to marry you straight after the film because with this film love at first sight and marrying almost immediately is the only option.

I can't really see this happening in reality to two people not so quick as this but when love shows it's beautiful face I suppose you just have to seize the moment. Great film!

Reservoir Dogs on my Classic List Without a Doubt
23 July 2013
The reason I went to watch this film because I was on a date with a nurse at the time. She suggested this movie and I didn't even have any info on the film at the time. I was really impressed with the film because of the catchy music (wonderful soundtrack) and the witty and sometimes close to the edge lines. Lots of swearing throughout and I remember at the time saying to people you should see this film. Some people didn't see it because of the violence and the swearing. I remember telling people that if you were robbing a bank and you got shot and was bleeding to death then you would be swearing, so I think it captured the real life of a criminal before the likes of films like Snatch. You get shot, you're gonna swear, You listen to music, so you're gonna talk about Madonna.

A masterpiece still today and though Tarantino's other films like Pulp Fiction and Inglorious Bastards get some rave reviews, this was the film that brought him to the fore.

My date unfortunately didn't last as long as Mr Brown in the movie! Well at least I got some great memories from a great film!
