Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo (2021)
Enjoyable as a stand-alone
If you want to watch this series, you cannot view it as some sort of remake of the show or some form of book-turned-movie. They took the core story of Christiane and turned it into a series that in itself is very enjoyable and entertaining - but not true to the original story itself.
The acting is great, the visuals are amazing, same are the outfits and settings. But this show glorifies all the topics and problems the originals tried to warn about. Drugs, withdrawal, relapse, peer-pressure, prostitution. While the show was great and got me hooked from the start, it left a bitter after-taste to see it being so bright, colorful and the overall tone so happy knowing that there were real lives lost in Christiane's friend circle due to heroin.
Reign (2013)
Well this was something different
I'm not even sure how to rate this... But let me begin.
When I first read what this series would be about, I was seriously thrilled by it because I recently fell passionately in love with the series "White Queen". I love historical themes on movies and especially series (you have way more time to develop precision in the plot). But when I finally watched the Pilot of "Reign" it wasn't at all what I expected. Throughout the whole episode I was thinking "these dresses aren't accurate". It looked like something 21-century-girls would wear to a prom, nonetheless the dresses looked kinda cute and fit the girls and their lively presents. I would guess that the producers of this serious aren't addressing history-loving people but more girls in the age of 14 to 18 by focusing more on the relationships between the protagonist and her childhood-friend as well as on the relationships between the girls.
It certainly deals more with modern teenage-themes and a lot of drama, set in a medieval time, with a touch of supernatural to keep the whole thing interesting. Nonetheless the episode was entertaining in a way and if you are aware of that this won't be a historically accurate story and more like a medieval teenage-drama on the life of girls on court it could still be a great series to give a try to. Maybe it is a bit of historically educational on the side... but I don't want to go out on a limb here. Let's just see what the rest of the season has in store for us.
