Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)
Don't ask for the moon people
I'll be the first to admit that I was never a big fan of the Indiana Jones movies. I've only ever seen the 2nd one all the way through and never got round to watching the others despite wanting to. I'm glad I haven't though, because judging from other comments, it would have ruined this movie.
The problem with bringing back old franchises is that people have immortalised them in their minds so any revival can never be seen as anything but awful. Star Wars, Knight Rider, Godzilla...need I go on? Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull does not have the greatest script, the greatest effects (the greatest loss to the movie world is this over-reliance on cgi over other effects), or perhaps the most believability (a refrigerator, waterfall surviving and Tarzan impressions to name a few), but despite this, it is great to watch. Its entertaining and keeps you interested despite its stupidity. It reminds me of movies from the earlier era's, before people cared so much about having 'realism' in movies.
Do yourselves a favour - don't look at this expecting the next classic Indiana Jones movie that's just like the previous 3, and you will love it. The franchise has evolved - get OVER it.
Dragon Ball Z: Chikyû Marugoto Chôkessen (1990)
Whoever Dubbed this should be severely punished
I've been a fan of Dragonball Z for years. Its a great anime. So when I spot a Dragonball Z movie in a store for the first time, I snap it up.
Oh, my, God.
Did they even know what they were dubbing when they did this? The voices are so awful it hurt to listen to them! They completely destroyed the fun loving Goku that we all know and love, and he came across as character with no depth whatsoever! And (though I can't speak for the American version) there was no 'original' Japanese option. I love watching the anime in its original form, and it was just cheap to leave it out.
The story itself, was good, if you don't mind a few plot holes here and there. They never explain one of the major mysteries (why Turles looks like Goku), but the fight scenes were cool.
In conclusion, hit the mute button and flick on subtitles if you want to enjoy this movie. You're not gonna manage to any other way.
