Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
The best of the 3
My brother and I got lucky and went to an early showing of Guardians of the Galaxy 3 yesterday, May 4th.
My brother is a guy who knows all of the comics, read comics as he grew up. I did not. We both liked the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies.
I don't want to give away anything. I will just say this. My brother and I BOTH loved Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and we AGREED that it was the best of the 3.
My brother and I don't agree on a lot so this means something. If you liked the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies, I highly recommend you go see this on in a theater. We were both very glad that we did.
The Handmaid's Tale: The Wilderness (2021)
Realistic
The thing that struck me over the time I have watched the series unfold was that not only were handmaid's being forced to birth children for their captors, but they were ALSO being 'forced' to kill under penalty of death anyone that did not follow their rules or live by their standards.
I had wondered how this would affect a woman over time... I feel that this staging of the murder of not only the man who raped her, the man who kept her as a slave, but who was also responsible for so much of what had happened to her, her family, her sex, and her country. I could see this as a realistic snap.. the need to destroy the man who forced this very psychologically damaging life on her.. After all they did 'teach' her to kill. It should shock no one when she does it to stop that 'commander' from going free after all of the damage he had caused.
The Batman (2022)
I could not even finish this movie
I only got half way through this movie. I did not like the style of the film... I did not like the energy of it. I stayed engaged trying to get the feel of where this batman and catwoman thing was going. At some point I said to myself, 'I am not enjoying this' and I did not force myself to finish watching it.
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 7: In the Name of Honor (2022)
THE WRITERS MADE A MISTAKE
Clearly trying to sum up and get the story to land where you want it is difficult.
During the last episode some of the acting, the way lines came across was lame. The way Boba lays there too long while the bad guy talks on... was just a little too long so it came across stupid. Just some bad directing I guess.
I think the writers made a HUGE mistake in their storytelling.
They should have made it clear in some way that Grogu was missing Mando and that 'GROGU' reached out through the force to Mando and that Mando's actions were in response to Grogu, not just Mando missing Grogu.
Luke told Mando that Grogu would never be safe until he mastered his abilities in the last episode of the Mandalorian and so much fighting, time and energy went into getting Grogu to Luke.
They could have just made it clear through conversations between Luke and Ashoka that 'Grogu' brought Mando to Luke's training site... and THAT was how Mando found him, not just made it look like Mando did it because he 'missed the kid.' Of course he did.
The Book of Boba Fett (2021)
How you end is everything...
While I found the series a little boring or dry in places. I kept watching.
It got really weird for me when they brought the Mandalorian.and Grogu in.
It was one thing for the Mandalorian to miss Grogu and want to make sure the 'kid' was okay. However, after the intensity of people hunting down Grogu and the 'kid' always being in danger, I found it difficult to buy this story that Grogu is now going back to be with the Mandalorian. Maybe you should have left Grogu returning for a while and just left him training with Luke and let it make some sense that he went back.
Sure Grogu got some memories back, but it seemed to me like the initial story line of the Mandalorian was rendered meaningless, as Luke just sends him back to the Mandalorian... what was the point?? This just wasn't written well or told well in my view.
And if you take anything from GOT, how you end is everything.
The action in the last episode was poorly directed, looked so staged it distracted from the story. I watched Boba Fett lay AND the Mandalorian lay in place far longer than made sense i.e. To deliver lines? Or to give Grogu time to do something?) it was weird. Lines were delivered in very 'canned' form to the point it was distracting. It was like you just wanted to get it over with. The problem with that is this is the final impression you will leave us with.... a messy last episode where lines are canned, action is weak in places and the story has not been told very well.
Hawkeye (2021)
Best of all of the Marvel Series So Far
I truly enjoyed this Marvel series. While I have also enjoyed the others. This is my favorite so far.
The character building worked. They were fun and interesting and I still want to know what happened to those thugs that got carried away....
Eternals (2021)
So much potential not realized
The beginning was very poorly done.. so much so it set the entire story off even to the finish.
Sometimes it felt like actors were just reading lines.
Sometimes it felt like a TV movie
I have to wonder if the director watched their own film before presenting it to the world? Because why would they have given us this when there was the potential for so much more... and yes our expectations are high.
Marvel has been able to deliver many wonderful films that were written and produced in such a way that we suspend disbelief or don't even have time to think about it because we have bought into the story.
This movie gave far too many opportunities to feel disconnected and uncomfortable with the story.
In the end when I saw the story and what it was trying to do, I really felt disappointed that the writers, directors, producers etc had not done a better job with this. It could have felt like another added piece to the story line instead of feeling like this goulash mess.
I wanted to like it... and I gave it a better rating than it probably deserves.
The Young Turks (2005)
Might as well be MSNBC, CNN and FOX News They push propaganda with gusto
They are sell outs. They are disgusting and when caught being terrible at journalism they attack with ridiculous smears and more propaganda pushing. They are NOT left at all, they tow the line for the U. S. Empire. They became trash as soon as they sold out for BIG MONEY. Don't believe anything these people say...
Game of Thrones (2011)
The Writing Has Been WEAK for some time now. Season 8 writing is AWFUL!
So, so ,much awful writing.. takes away from great cast and some great potential story... Season 8 is NO exception... basically crap writing.... is what we can expect from the Game of Thrones. Lesson... don't create a series based on books and then try to write it yourselves after that... because you are not the writers and you will likely fall short.... Not planning to engage any prequel or future stories from these guys because they have proven they can't deliver. And I came back to take away another star for the concerted effort of using cast to attack show fans. SHAME ON YOU CAST & ALL FOR ATTACKING FANS for having feelings about the truly badly written season 8.
You don't hide people in a CRYPT when fighting a boss that raises the dead.. you don't use a line of dialogue from a character(Jorah) to suddently make a character 'smart' that you have written into idiocy for many seasons.. YOUR STORY TELLING IN SEASON 8 SCREAMS YOU DID NOT CARE ANYMORE D&D!
Same Kind of Different as Me (2017)
Best Movie I've Seen In Years
This movie should win awards. It is the best movie I have seen in years.
It covers many difficult subjects in a very beautiful way.
In America, laws & law enforcement are used to STOP US from helping people who are homeless, hungry, and need help which is inhumane...
We MUST NOT STAND FOR THIS!
80% of Americans are in debt. 70% have little to no savings.
#1 cause of bankruptcy is medical bills.
Rich, sociopathic people control our govt, media & elections.
But there are hundreds of millions of us... and not so many of them.
SEE THIS MOVIE... think about it....
Game of Thrones: Mother's Mercy (2015)
Season 5 A Choppy/Sloppy Mess
Unlike so many prone to sing praises of GOT this season, I completely disagree. Many times during this season I questioned why I was bothering to watch this show. My sense was that it was mainly because of it's better past and hoping for some return to former glory or some kind of redemption for sucking away so much of my time and energy. The writing this season many times left me feeling that the writers really didn't want to do the show anymore. Story lines grew weak and characters grew flat. There were a few places that it lived up to expectations based on past success but for the most part this season and most of all this finale were sub par.
I have not read the books. And while I didn't care for some of the directions that story lines took, all of that could have been overcome by better writing. Granted based on past success there was a lot to live up to, but this season the writers did a very poor job. If I decide to watch next season at all, it will be after it is over so I don't waste time wondering what will happen. Based on this season it would be constant disappointment.
Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief (2015)
Gutwrenching Truth That Was Bound To Come Out
I had read Dianetics many years ago. I was intrigued by the Basic Auditing, which is something you can do with anyone and does offer a process for draining the emotion from remembered experiences. I found that simple process very powerful. I took a basic ethics course and as mentioned in the documentary I felt some relief from learning simple tools and being taught simple things like always looking up a word that you don't clearly and truly understand the definition of. Those were all very useful things. I can see why people get attracted into Scientology as I myself was. But from there I tried paid auditing and found it completely not useful and it felt like the person doing the auditing wanted it to be something else... it was weird. They still owe me money lol. I tried to take another course to use my unused credit that they would not refund to me but they wanted more money. I got a used book somewhere that was a higher level book I think and it was so bazaar I was taken aback and did not go any further though I did try to figure out if anyone understood anything beyond programmed ideas or they had any other useful tools that I could use my 'credit' for. They just stopped responding to me which was probably a good thing. For a church with so much money, you would think they could pay you back for services not rendered :) I am glad that these people came forward. I think this is a powerful documentary and I hope that it will prevent the cult from growing any further. In my view it is a great shame that tools that are useful to people should be tied to such a freakish institution. And this demonstrates that any doctrine that requires that you disconnect from people who don't agree with your beliefs is definitely hiding something and is threatened by truth.
12 Years a Slave (2013)
The ugliness still exists in men that would make slaves of other men.
It appeared that everyone in the theater, men and women alike, cried at this film. It was very well done. And sadly left me realizing that this same ugliness still exists today in those that would make economic slaves of other men by abusing their wealth, power, and opportunity.
And I realized that we must fight this with an understanding that there is enough for us all and it is not a problem for some to have more than others as long as the least of us can live with dignity. Those that are poisoned by such greed that they would rob people of their dignity are diseased and must be recognized as such.
I am grateful that this movie was made at this time. It represents the ugliness of slavery in a much more real and truthful way than any other that I have seen and it reminded me of the darkness that human beings are capable of justifying for their own purposes.
This Is the End (2013)
One of THE WORST Films EVER Made
We went to see this movie on the basis of reviews.
It was definitely at the top of the 10 worst movies I've ever seen.
And I've seen The Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.
My friends and I kept sitting through it as it went from bad to worse. We didn't say anything to each other. I think we hoped that it was going to take a turn for the better because hey there are all of these great reviews, right? It wasn't until other people started getting up and walking out that I started thinking that maybe I would go to the lobby and wait for my friends there because it was getting more and more unbearable to watch.
Finally one of my friends turned to me and said something about how horrible the movie was and I let her know I was ready to leave. As I turned to my other friend we were clearly all relieved to get up and walk out.
This movie is so awful I wanted my money back.
The Butler (2013)
A great and powerful movie, very deep and moving
This movie is worthy of many awards. Thank you to everyone who participated in making it. The reality of our history is both heartbreaking and remarkable.
It is striking that rights must continually be appreciated and fought for. It was important to see the different ways that people advanced civil rights.
Reading some negative reviews my sense is that some people may have trouble taking in the deep, more subtle but powerful expressions in this film.
As some seek to turn back the clock and, for example make it harder for minorities to vote, this movie can inspire us all to fight against that.
