I'll See You in My Dreams (2015)
Watching paint dry
I wasted 2 hours of my life that I will NEVER get back after reading the reviews and then watching this vapid, dull, insipid movie. I kept waiting for something to happen.
The script was rambling. There was NO theme. I can't believe that someone invested real money into making this pathetic movie. People just wander in and out of the scenes. There is no real character development. The characters have no depth. It is just a movie about old people breathing, walking and sleeping. Blythe Danner looks wonderful at her age but she needs a good hairdresser and stylist. Sam Elliott's place in her life had potential but, like everything else in this movie, the audience is left wanting. I'm still wondering why the pool guy returned later in the movie.
The writers, producers and directors could have chosen a much better vehicle for Blythe Danner and Sam Elliott. If you have nothing else better to do with two hours of your life, you can watch this movie. But, if you have something more exciting to do, like sleeping, do that.
The Accountant (2016)
The Best Movie I have seen in years
I have watched the Jason Bourne sagas for years. James Bond movies have been a mainstay since I was in my teens. Ben Affleck, as an actor, was average at best. With that said, I was somewhat skeptical when the trailers were first released about "The Accountant". My curiosity got the best of me. So I went to see it at a matinée. IT WAS SO GOOD!!! Every question raised in this movie was answered by its conclusion. It was so entertaining and creative. I LOVED IT!! The audience applauded at the end while the credits rolled.
I had to go see it again, because I missed some nuances. When I saw it the second time, again the audience (a different group) applauded at the end. GREAT MOVIE!!!
I might see it a third time. Can't get too much of a good thing.
The Ditchdigger's Daughters (1997)
Excellent film
The book is better, but this movie captures the struggles of an American family (who happens to be black). The strict, yet loving father figure is riveting and the accomplishments of his daughters are amazing. I wish they developed the characters of each girl a little more. The emphasis of intergenerational conflict hampers the message of persistence and survival in a world that is dismissive toward women. One can only imagine the uphill battles that were encountered in trying to raise and educate six girls in the 50s and 60s. The movie only glances over that. However, the last scene with the daughters carrying their father's casket to his final resting place is heart- rendering. Great flick!
