Funny Girl (1968)
Overall very good but seriously dated, go for the modern version.
I only watched this out of curiosity and because my 88 year-old mother had a hard time following parts of the story when we saw it in New York last week and also there are not a lot of good movies for this age group. The movie is quite good if you can get past the first few minutes (why is she pretending to shoot a machine gun with her fingers like a 9 year-old?) Also the film editing is so old-fashioned at times. For instance when she first meets Nick Arnstein and is smitten with him the scene then freezes for several seconds. This may have been cutting edge film-making back in the 1960's but you would never see that in a modern film. For a truly great version of this story go to the August Wilson Theatre in New York City. It is perfection from beginning to end. Every scene is outstanding and all of the actors are terrific, especially Lea Michele. She is absolutely fantastic as Fanny Brice. I understand it runs until 9/3 on Broadway and then goes on nationwide tour.
Mulan (2020)
Fantastic Movie If You Know What to Expect!
I really enjoyed this movie although I was a bit shocked and taken aback at first be cause I was expecting a historical figure like Joan of Arc and not expecting witches and fantastical creatures. I had not done any reading about the movie and never watched the animated version. I was pleasantly surprised though, as I had just watched Maleficent: Mistress of Evil a few weeks ago and wished there more movies like it I could watch. The two Maleficent movies were awesome and Mulan was much like them. If you liked Maleficent how could you not like Mulan? Plus it has kung fu! The chi concept is taught in most kung fu schools, harnessing your chi can create great strength. Most kung fu schools in the U.S. are different from
other martial arts schools, they pummel you for real! You have to be tough to
persevere in kung fu school. This is to answer the critics who wonder how she could have outfought larger male opponents.

Fun movie to watch. Amazing sound quality.
Very entertaining. It is similar to watching a Mission Impossible, Bourne or James Bond movie, with the exotic locations, car chases and high tech. It has very high production values and is well-written. The best part in my opinion was the terrific sound quality. I have seen a lot of big-budget blockbuster movies lately and this actually sounded better on my Atmos set-up. I have the Denon AVR-X3600H receiver, Panasonic UB-9000 blu ray player, a pair of Klipsch RP-600M up front, a pair of SVS Ultra Bookshelf speakers to the sides and a pair of KEF LS50's in back, plus a Bowers and Wilkins center channel speaker, 4 Monoprice upfiring Atmos-enabled speakers and a Sprout 100 amplifier for 2 of the speakers. Just listen to the ATV roaring through the forest in one of the chase scenes, it's absolutely fantastic!
Monster Bug Wars! (2011)
Fun to watch
Great show, I bought the DVD from Amazon which also had additional episodes for streaming. New seasons are also available on Youtube.
