Tracks (2013)
Captures a Moment in Australian History.
To be honest at first this movie didn't seem like it would be interesting to sit through for almost 2 hours. A girl walks across the desert with her camels, what's interesting about that? Well if you go into this movie thinking that, you'll come out pleasantly surprised.
At every turn there is something new and unexpected that happens. The challenges that Robyn faced on her journey were incredible. This film was based on a true story and was adapted from a book. Mia Wasikowska's acting was superb, it really took you on a journey. From start to finish this film was visually spectacular. The vast Australian outback was stunning and amazing to see on screen.
I would recommend this film to anyone is up for an inspirational story. 7/10.
30 Rock: Hogcock!/Last Lunch (2013)
Last Episode Ever!!!!!!!!!!
****WARNING MAJOR SPOILERS**** I'm so sad that that was the last I'll ever see of Liz Lemon and her lovable gang. In saying that I'm happy that they all finally got what they wanted and were happy with their lives. We get to see them all go their different ways and say bye to each other for the last time.
We see Jack sail off on a boat into the night sky, only to return a few minutes later after coming up with a brilliant idea. Kenneth takes Jack's position and Liz finally adopts kids with Criss. The writers all try to enjoy the last free lunch that they'll get together, a big argument breaks out when they find out that it's Lutz who gets to choose.
For me the best part of this episode was Tracy and Liz saying bye to each other in a typical Tracy way, in a strip club! As sad as that was to watch it was still funny, which made it better.
It ends with Jenna singing a final heart touching song. A definite 10/10 for a great end to a great show.
The Breakfast Club (1985)
Coming of Age Classic!!!!!!
The Breakfast Club is a coming of classic for all high school students. Weather you were a high school student in the 80s or you're a high school student today, everyone can somehow relate to what went on that day spent in detention.
The film follows five very different high school students who need to spend the day in together in detention. Over the course of the day they slowly become closer and realize that none of them are that different to one another. It makes us notice how we are the same in a way during our high school days.
The film was brilliantly directed by John Hughes. It was amazingly scored and had all round great acting.
I would recommend this movie to anybody who wants to give it a go. 9/10
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
Way Ahead of its Time!!!
This movie is a rare masterpiece that was way ahead of its time, everything from the special effects to the music composition. I can't think of a better original horror film to date.
Lets start with the special effects, the effects used on Freddy's face are incredible. The realistic look of it and the acting from Robert Englund has made this a truly terrifying character for all audiences through the generations.
The film follows the story of Nancy Thompson, a high school student who gets stalked in her dreams by a murderer, Freddy Krueger. Freddy is out to kill her and her neighborhood friends while they sleep. It has a great twist ending that leaves you hanging for more. This movie spawned many sequels and a remake as well.
The acting in this movie portrays the real terror that the characters would be feeling. We are introduced to Johnny Depp for the first time in this movie, he plays the friend and neighbor of the main character, Nancy (Heather Langenkamp). It also features Ronee Blakley as Nancy's mum and Amanda Wyss as Nancy's friend.
I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves horror/thriller or even scarier classics. 9/10
Stand by Me (1986)
Incredible Story Telling
Stand By Me is an amazing coming of age story about four young boys, Gordie, Chris, Teddy & Vern (Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman & Jerry O'Connell, respectively). It is told through the point of view of a middle aged man as he recalls a summer childhood memory of his.
The film features very strong acting skills, direction and a great screenplay, the movie is based on the popular novel written by Stephen King. We follow the boys as they go on a hunt to find the body a boy who had gone missing earlier in the summer. They come across obstacles such as leeches, trains and finding out who they really are.
I would highly recommend this movie for anyone of any age. Everything from the locations to the actual story is worth watching, a definite 10/10 from me.
Oz the Great and Powerful (2013)
What a mess this was!!!
Where to begin? Okay, to start with James Franco cannot act to save his life! This movie has ruined any kind of reputation he got for 127 Hours, that is just the start of the catastrophe that this movie ended up being. Mila Kunis played one of the most unlikeable and unrelatable villain character in movie history.
Moving onto the horrible CGI in this film. It started colorful and stunning to look at and ended up so unrealistic and repetitive that it became almost impossible to watch. I found myself confused by the CGI and the scene with the fake flower field in the background from the original 1939 classic. I ended up feeling as though the CGI was a obvious cover up for the bland, dull characters that we were supposed to enjoy watching and the story that took us no where original.
Overall, I feel that it would have made for a more interesting film if the prequel was about Dorothy growing up on a farm in Kansas. Disney should not have gone anywhere near this classic story. If you eliminate James Franco, Mila Kunis, the CGI, the teapot girl, the 'good' monkey, the director, the script, Disney and any cameras it would be a perfect film (so nothing). I am disappointed that I spent over 2 hours of my life watching this horrible movie.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
A Phenomenal HORROR CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a masterpiece!!! As a avid horror fan, I can easily say this is one of the best horror films ever made. Everything from the opening narration and the first image we see in the movie to the brilliant unexpected ending, this movie is a horror gem.
We follow Sally, her 'invalid brother Franklin', and their three friends as they go on a road trip through Texas. After picking up a crazy hitch-hiker and ditching him, they finally come across their grandpa's old farm. There, we are introduced to Leatherface and his cannibalistic family.
Leatherface is the chainsaw wielding psycho that has changed the horror genre for the last 40 years. His iconic chainsaw and human skin mask has terrified audiences for decades. Gunner Hansen's portrayal of the ultimate villain has impacted the slasher and horror genre for so long and thanks to the many audiences who have sat through his terror and admired his performance.
This movie has spawned many sequels and remakes, none of which have matched the intensity and pure genius of the original Tobe Hooper masterpiece.
Overall I would recommend this movie for any horror fanatic who can accept that it was made in the 70s and isn't really that scary by today's standards. Fantastic and highly recommended 10/10!!!!!
Easy A (2010)
A Modern Classic!!!!
I have seen this movie countless times and can say that it easily goes into the category of my favorite movies of all time. I am a huge fan of John Hughes and his classic 80's teen comedies, to me this just felt like another one of these with a modern twist and a storyline that more can relate to these days. It had a great cast, director and extremely well written script. The story follows Olive who tells a lie about something very personal and it spreads like wildfire through the school. She loses her friends and decides she no longer cares what people think about her. The movie told through a web-cam point of view and is accompanied by a soundtrack full of classic songs, many of which were featured in John Hughes' movies.
