Fistful of Vengeance (2022)
The constant tedious fight scenes were too much
I'm a big fan of Wu Assassins ( I think I gave it 9 stars. ), and have watched the series three times already, and love it ( I could watch it once a year! ) , so I was looking forward to this movie.
But I was disappointed with the constant tedious fight scenes. I found myself repeatedly thinking; When will this be over?
The actors are fine, as demonstrated in Wu Assassins, but they are poorly used in this movie. The scenery and settings in Thailand were interesting and spectacular - especially in 4K resolution, which in my opinion, has made theaters obsolete.
I was disappointed that "Uncle Yoda" didn't make it, and would have liked to seen more of him. What a great character!
I suggest enjoying Wu Assassins, and looking forward to a new season of that.
The Old Man (2022)
It starts out developing a little of the story, and then...
It starts out developing a little of the story, and then...BOOM!
Icons Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow in powerful leading roles.
Add a couple of man's best friend, and they have the makings of a blockbuster intrigue thriller series!
Halo (2022)
Incredibly great sci-fi!
I'm not a gamer, so have never played these kinds o games. But I am a life long fan of good sci-fi and this is great! It's involved, the story is powerful and it's very well done.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Disconnected and irrelevant to the trilogy.
We tried it for about 15 minutes last night, then quit. We couldn't figure how the modern characters were relevant or connected to the trilogy. Why did they even make this movie?
Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)
A fun, funny entertaining romp of a movie...
Saw this today at the Alamo Draft House in Denver, where they also serve you at your table in the theater. Things like drinks for the drinkers, iced cold brew coffee for me, endless buttered popcorn.. But I tigress...
This was a fun, funny romp of a movie, with action, adventure, and lots of general mayhem! VERY entertaining. We say 8 of 10 for our IMDB rating.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Ehhh...OK I guess.
I like action adventure that is visceral, and sometimes this is, but most times it isn't. I was falling asleep during Episode 1, in spots. It's gotten a bit better as it goes, but the exciting parts are too few. Discovery seems to have more gut wrenching adventure.
David Cross: Oh Come On (2019)
Some horrible antisemitism!
David Cross - appalling! ( Caution! )
Let me preface this with the fact that my whole family is Jewish and I read all about the Holocaust as a teen.
So we decided to watch some comedy on Saturday night, and tried David Cross' "Oh Come On". It quickly became apparent that he was an extreme leftist and some kind of SJW. Oh, and one of those self-loathing Jews. I didn't think much of it was funny. But THEN, about 10 minutes into this, he's joking about putting his baby daughter down on the oven door:
"I can't put her on the floor, so, you know, I undo the oven door and set her on that. And, um... it's fine. It's fine. It's fine. You know. If nothing else, it allows her to get a little closer to the history of her peoples, you know. And... ( audience laughing, groaning ) ( Groaning and an appalled hush! ) Her great-grandfather built ovens. For the Nazis. Now, here's the thing. He got out, he got out, Ashville, he got out. You judgmental f_cks."
So my jaw drops open and it seems that this guy's family is Jewish and he's joking about this! I was appalled and didn't want to watch anymore, but by the time I'd reached for the remote, he had moved on to THIS!:
"And so we are taking her in for her one year physical, which means, obviously, my wife and I had the big discussion and, uh, we have decided to let her live. And... And I'm gonna drill that into her head. I'm gonna tell her that repeatedly. Every day, I'm gonna make sure she knows that because when she's like five years old and she's having a tantrum, I want her to be able to repeat that out loud in a public place so that she knows it, you know, and we're at the airport and we gotta get on the flight and she's having a tantrum, like, "Hey, hey! Hey! Stop it! Hey! What did Daddy tell you? What did Daddy tell you?" "Um... you let me live?" "Yeah, that's right. Exactly. Not like..." "Not like the others?" "Yeah! Exactly. Now, come on, we gotta get on the plane. Come on. Seriously. You wanna go meet your sister? Or brother, I don't know, we never found out. Let's go. Let's go, let's go, let's go!" I truly believe that it's... a kid is never too young to learn about abortion."
So he's apparently one of the leftist self-loathing Jews that I've heard about, but couldn't believe that they existed. I cant watch him, ever again.
AND my First Amendment opinion is that people like him are driving this wave of antisemitic violence now. In FACT, you may want to contact Amazon Prime Video and ask that such antisemitic content be removed, because it could be encouraging violence against Jews.
Deadly Class (2018)
Can't understand much of what they're saying, and apparently neither can the close captioner.
We tried the first episode of this, and it seemed like they were mumbling and/or slurring words, so we could barely understand what was being said. And apparently the close captioning person was having the same problem, because THAT was all messed up too - as if they couldn't understand it either. If this isn't fixed, how can we even watch this series?
Aquaman (2018)
Mostly 3D and FX
We saw Aquaman today.
I give it 6/10 per the following. ( It was about 90% 3D and FX. ):
My Movie Review Criteria
Should have a story that I can relate strongly to. ( I personally like action/adventure, and heroes - be they human heroes or super heroes. )
Should cause me to relate personally to the characters.
Should be visceral - emotionally stirring - powerful - gut wrenching.
A good individual liberty philosophy is important to me, as an Objectivist. Admittedly, that's in short supply these days, as the school kids have been educationally crippled by Socialist indoctrination since the 60's ( Producing the likes of Ocasio-Cortez. ), and have grown the government to a point that now threatens our society's very existence and liberty.
If it's a 3D movie that's mostly FX, we're all getting jaded to that, and it's getting boring without the above!
Patriot (2015)
Slow, Stupid and Boring
I realized that many people really this series it, but it didn't work out that way for me.
This seems to me, like the "Murphy's Law" of spy series'. Yes, I know, it's supposed to be dramedy, and I get a few chuckles from it, here and there, but all in all, it's hard staying awake, and seems really stupid. While Murphy's Law may be at play in the world, I doubt it could ever be this pervasive, so it ruins the whole thing IMO.
