The Sweeter Side of Life (2013 TV Movie)
10/10
Need more movies of this caliber!
25 January 2013
Good family movies are all too rare; we need more like this! At first, I thought the "ditzy blonde" scenes were a little much, a little corny and overdone. That is, until I watched with grandchildren who thought they were hilarious. Then I realized that those things MAKE the movie family fare... something to appeal to all ages. The acting was perfection, itself; I was very impressed with the personality characterizations. In fact, I admit that I even had to wonder if James Best still "had it". Yes, he certainly does; he was just the right guy for the part. Don't hang up your acting hat yet, Jimmy!

Hats off to the Damians for another great movie!

Money or Mission (2006 Video)

Sure, it's worth seeing!
1 September 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This wasn't my favorite Mormon movie (or even close), but hey, I can enjoy anything that's wholesome and family-oriented. It's very difficult to find movies nowadays that aren't rampant with disgusting language and which don't promote immorality. Not only that, but I'll buy anything that Nick Whitaker is in. It's been fun to watch his acting mature with each performance.

No use in doing a plot summary, as that is self-evident in the title. Even though we knew it was inevitable, it was still a relief to discover the choice that the young man with missionary potential made. As a parent, I could feel the stress and helplessness that his parents experienced, as well.

As short as it is, I felt like it should have cost less, but I'm still happy to have it in my collection.

Except for the immorality
6 May 2006
If you can get past the immorality and a little language, the movie is pretty watchable. The acting was respectable, especially liked Angie Harmon and Rosanna Arquette. Don't recall the actor's name who played Rosanna's husband, but he was quite fun to watch, as well. There may even be a few lessons to be learned, as far as honesty and integrity... lessons to be learned by the viewers, that is, as I don't believe that, even in the end, the main character really caught on to them.

We don't find very many movies on TV here in Saudi Arabia that we can last through the first ten minutes of, but we managed to stay tuned to all of this one, so I guess that says something for it :)

Great family entertainment!
22 March 2006
Slappy and the Stinkers is one of my 10 favorite all-time movies. My grandchildren and I have watched it over and over. In these days of sex, violence and objectionable language, it is so refreshing to find a movie that one can feel comfortable sharing with others, especially children. Slappy is a delightful and funny seal, being hidden (and disguised) by a group of youngsters, trying to protect him from those who would do him harm. A strict and unfeeling school master, along with gardener (Branson Pinchot) add to the enjoyment. Watch as once again good triumphs over evil! Clean, wholesome and upbeat comedy, a good addition to one's video library.

More heart warming than Jimmy Stewart's Christmas movie
20 April 2005
Amongst all the crapola we find on various screens, how refreshing to run into this heart warming story. The story definitely carried a positive message (the star being a delightful nun), then you add in a lot of humor, a believable small town atmosphere, and marvelous acting. Shirley Jones and Cloris Leachman definitely stole the show on this one, although Frank Gorshin wasn't half bad, himself. I want to call this a family movie, but frankly, I can't see it having much appeal for children. Still, it was so nice to get away from the sex, sexual innuendos and profanity. It's a movie you wouldn't be embarrassed to take your parents, too (I've had the opposite experience too many times). I find it interesting that close to 50% of the voters gave it a ten rating..... including me! BRAVO!

Flubber (1997)
10/10
Super Family Entertainment
29 December 2004
Have just watched Flubber for the first time. I expected to be disappointed since I was such a fan of Fred MacMurray's version. Who else could do justice to the role of the absent-minded professor! I was to soon learn that Robin Williams can (and did). It was a delightful movie with no profanity or vulgarity. I can't say there wasn't any violence, but it was humorous violence, and one realized that nobody was really hurt. I felt really good and uplifted after watching and, unfortunately, I can't say that about most any movie nowadays. There were some very funny moments. I particularly liked the little boy who saw things that weren't really there (according to his father, that is). Of course, it was the brilliant comedic acting of Robin Williams that made the movie a success!

Our reaction to the movie after watching last night
22 November 2004
This hard-to-sit through movie tells a corny story of a straight guy (Matthew Perry) who, because of some misunderstandings, becomes publicly labeled as gay. In order for him and his partner (Oliver Platt)--who really is gay and not afraid to admit it--to get an important contract, he decides to go along with it, but after falling in love with his prospective boss's mistress (Neve Campbell), he has to second guess that decision. The girl is laboring under the misconception that he is, indeed, homosexual and considers him to be her best "girlfriend". The only credible acting was by Oliver Platt. Rated PG-13, we felt that it should have been R because of sexual dialogue.
