Evil Dead (2013)
Ignore the hate. It's a wickedly fun, gory, hell ride !
well, after months of waiting, countless status updates, and even more photo reminders, the day finally came. The much anticipated remake/rebirth EVIL DEAD was released upon the world. I went into the movie with high, high expectations. Did i expect it to be the most terrifying movie i would ever experience? god no, there is always a little hope but i generally know i wont get scared by a movie, but i was expecting to see a cool awesome hardcore horror. what i experienced last night, fell short of hardcore, but hit the mark in every other way.
the story follows a group 4 friends who bring their drug other drug addicted friend to her families old cabin in the woods. Hoping the the secluded location is the perfect thing poor Mia needs to finally kick her drug habit. The 5 friends hunker down and prepare themselves for a crazy few days of detox. as you can tell from the trailers, all Hell breaks loose fast and because of Mia's detox, no one believes her when she has realized, something is seriously wrong.
in general i loved everything i saw. the story moved along quickly, and the gore was amazing! the decision to use practical effects was definitely the best decision when thinking about remaking an 80's gore classic. there were plenty of moments that reminded me of watching 80's horror as a child. and it spread a big smile across my face. of course they used cgi to touch up some scenes or remove wires but that is just common Practice nowadays, and they just make the practical effects pop even more. the acting wasn't fantastic, but it wasn't awful either. Jane levy definitely stands out to me, and her performance is fantastic. she really raises the bar for the other characters. unfortunately they never reach her level. but i have for sure, seen way worse. as i said before, the story moves along relatively quickly. which i love. once things happen, its pretty much a roller-coaster ride from hell till the end.
if you look closely there r are few nods to the original two movies, which i really enjoyed. you can tell the director really has a heart for the source material. From the awesome POV shots, to the classic Oldsmobile Delta Royal 88, i truly felt like i was watching an evil dead movie. now were there negatives? of course, no movie is perfect. i wont go into details but i will say my biggest negative has to do with marketing. there are numerous scenes in the trailers that are not actually in the theatrical release. this seems to be common now a days and the reason they say is because sometimes a trailer is cut before the final movie has been finalized. i would believe that, except evil dead released a million new trailers way after the first showing of the movie. so they were fully aware some scenes were not in the movie, but they kept advertising them anyways. now i have heard we could be getting a uncut /or extended cut on DVD but only time will tell.
so in my closing i will say, was this "the most terrifying movie you will ever experience"? no. did i think it was hardcore ? not really, i always felt they could have taken it that extra step further, but it was one of the best movies i have seen in awhile. and other then a few exceptions, i feels like it was tailor made for me :) it was an awesomely cool ride through hell. and i cant wait to see it again, and I can't wait for the sequel !!!!
Don't Go in the Woods (2010)
Don't watch this movie * possible spoilers *
** may contain spoilers but not really***
Wow , so I just finished watching this movie. And all I have to say is wow. Thesar-2 got it 100% correct. Check out his review for more details, but from the horrid acting (seriously bad) to the horrible songs (really really horrible) to the horrible singing ( omg these people r sooooooo bad! The drummer is the worst!) not to mention the all around horrible atrocious story/plot. This move has zero redeeming qualities. None. This movie is textbook of why never to do ever again. I do t write many reviews but I had to say something about this hour and 23 min excuse for a really bad amateur band to get noticed. And I love a good musical and I love horror and this was neither. All bad, all bad, all bad. Like I said. Read theses-2's review for even more reasons why this movie is awful. Someone while in mid attack breaks out into song! Seriously! Stay away!
The Shortcut (2009)
awesome Horror... If your 5
i was bored through the whole damn movie. there is so much set of here for absolutely no pay off. the acting was horrible ( except most of the women were pretty good) and the kills were non-exsistant. oh there were deaths, but they were so lam and not focused on, that i just looked right past them. The Story was somewhat original, but not original enough to save this movie. The Ending was totally predictable, and i called the twist ending within 5 min ..I feel like this is what a PG horror movie would look like. So grab you 5 year olds if u want them to see a scary movie. but if u r like me and are a GROWN UP... skip it altogether. and may i suggest hostel, last house on the left, martyrs, inside, rec, high tension.... now those r horror movies
Scarce (2008)
horrid horrid horrid, r u sure Ulli didn't direct this?
well i saw the trailer for this movie and i Had to watch it. so this morning i sat down to what i thought was gonna be a brutal realistic horror movie. But what i got was a laughable Ulli Lommel type movie. now people r spouting that the gore in this movie is amazing, and u know what its actually quite good. but honestly thats where the compliments end. the acting was so awful i wouldn't believe the director would finish a take with his actors and actually thought he got the shot. in my opinion i would rather never made a movie then make one horrid horrid horrid acting. i TRIED to just let the "acting" go and just focus the movie as a whole, but it was so bad i couldn't. i ended up skippin along the whole way just to get to parts with NO TALKING. it baffles my mind how anyone would let this piece of cr*p to be made, but even more so that some people actually LIKED IT. the only positive about it is the gore. now i am a gore hound, but even that could not get me to somewhat enjoy it.
so in closing the movie sucked, the acting was even worse and if u liked it u might wanna check out all the works by Ulli Lommel, specifically BTK Killer.
See Jane Run (2007)
what was that??? *MAY contain spoilers*
i have to start out by asking if this movie was a high school drama project? The story i think, is about a group of teenagers and and some random guy, who get led astray to some guys house for BBQ dinner. Once they Are done they decide to stay the night. pretty typical and thin right. well at this point the killing starts. i could not believe my eyes when i saw such horrid CGI killings. Considering some horror movies from the 80's have awesome practical effects with no budget. So there is no x-cuse for this kind of laughable "horror".
The acting was so bad i don't even know what to say. The main character looked like she was asleep through the whole movie. she had no emotion what so ever and at one point is very creepy and insane. It did not fit into the "plot" at all.
This movie was nothing but an awkward mess. and i am actually surprised considering all the positive reviews i read for it. ALl i have to say is that if you liked it, your standards r so low, maybe u might like another movie called BTK Killer by Ulli Lommel, or really anything by Ulli Lomme.
this movie was laughable and i would be embarrassed to have my name anywhere in the credits of this mess.
you want a horror freaks opinion, stay far away, don't even watch it out of curiosity, don't let any money be made off this junk. my actual rating for this movie is 0. it gets nothing from me
Saw IV (2007)
i enjoyed a lot
SAW.... one of my fav. movies of all time. Had everything in it i wanted to see in a horror. my only dream was that it would not end there. SAW II came.... and i was disappointed. traps were lame...it was nothing like the first...... but i did like where it took the story. SAW III... PUT SAW BACK ON THE MAP... this was the first movie in a while that made me turn away..... and it followed through withe the awesome twists and turns...... now...
SAW IV... lets talk about the negatives. i felt the movie was edited way to fast. i felt half the time i didn't know what was going on until it was over. half the time you had to read something, i never got it...
OK done
now the movie was really good other then that. story followed all the twists and all the turns. played with the world of time, and had traps to enjoy. suspenseful, and gory it was what a saw fan wants. so if u liked the first one and the 3rd one.... you will like this one and see how SAW IV.. is just the beginning.
