Baby Boy (2001)
Unintentionally Funny part2
Another reviewers title was "Unintentionally Funny" and that is exactly how I viewed this movie. Yes I am a white middle classed man who's only knowledge of living in South Central LA is what I see in the movies and I just cannot take this movie seriously at all, to me this is a comedy of stereo types at its best. Tyrese Gibbons as Jodi who staggers around as he walks with his pants hanging off of his butt and riding a blinged out bicycle named Nympho lives at home with his mother but yet has kids with two different woman and no money to support himself let alone his kids. His girlfriend knows he has sex with other women and he does nothing to hide the fact that he does and his reason for lying to his girlfriend about why he cheats is because he loves her.
Jody's best friend is Sweet Pea who lives with his girlfriend and her mother who buys him clothes and video games and at 20 years old has no job or any intention on finding one. Sweet Pea does own guns and is portrayed as being religious but has no problem killing someone as long as he prays first.
Then there is Melvin who is Jody's mothers boyfriend, he is an ex con with two strikes who is trying to make a living legally but slips up now and then and tries to give Jody advise but he wants none of it, maybe because he is cooking breakfast in the nude in Jody's kitchen right after having sex with his mom.
Snoop Dog plays Rodney who brings this film to its riveting climax and also brings Jody back to his girlfriend just in time to get her pregnant again but this time Jody is a little wiser and a little more forgiving to Melvin but yet not a penny richer and no job in sight.
The R rated version is the best to watch because a lot is cut out of the PG version.
American MC (2017)
Ice cream men from hell - pathetic!
The character Baker is loud, extremely reckless and basically an Ahole who leads this group of bikers that want to form an M. C. With the exception of a ride with the hells angels it is just a train wreck!
The Many Saints of Newark (2021)
Why so much emphasis on the Newark riots?
I thought this movie was going to show how a young Tony Soprano made his leap into organized crime and the teenage Tony does not show up until half way thru the movie! I am assuming that the final statement Christopher says answers the question as to what happens to the present Tony but I still would like to know more about how he got to where he was when he was introduced to us in the first episode of the Sopranos and that just did not happen.
Driven (2001)
Really a bad movie!
Sly a former driver of course is called in to help an up an coming driver (who is portrayed as a cry baby) from falling apart because his girlfriend dumps him. Go ahead and watch it and you will understand.
The Sopranos (1999)
A series worth watching multiple times.
I have always been intrigued with shows and movies based on organized crime but this series made me obsessed with wanting to see more and more shows centered around organized crime.
For me seasons 1 thru 5 were some of the best shows I have every seen period. There is so much going on and every character played their part so well
Season 5 was originally supposed to be the final season but the success of the show was so great that it only seemed right to extend it to one more season which was done as 6A and 6B. I was disappointed with most of season 6 and it seemed to me that too much time was spent on characters that had little to do with seasons 1 thru 5 or new characters that were not very interesting at all.
The last episode will always be debated which was probably the intent. Like the majority of people who loved this series I was disappointed with the ending at the time it aired. When I rewatched the series a couple years later I viewed it as glimpse into the daily life of an organized crime family with no beginning and no ending.
The Cabin with Bert Kreischer (2020)
The aim was good but missed the target
I think the idea was great and the cast of people was perfect but it seemed like it was going in all kinds of directions and still not going anywhere. I am glad that Netflix took this on because it has the potential to be a big hit and hopefully that will happen.
Cobra Kai (2018)
If you liked The Karate Kid you will enjoy this series
William Zabka does an outstanding job of playing the role of a down on his luck bad boy that makes you want to root for him to turn it all around for the best. There is a great mix of 80's flashback that takes you right to present day. Paul Walter Hauser aka Richard Jewell is the perfect choice for his role in this series. You wont be disappointed!
Ping Pong Summer (2014)
This movie is more of a mystery than a comedy.
The mystery is how and why did Susan Sarandon and Lea Thompson wind up in this movie? After reading the movie description that the film is taking place in OC Maryland and that both Sarandon and Thompson are in the movie and that the era is 1980's I was sure that this would be a winner. Lets just say that the opening shots of OC Maryland was about all of the excitement this movie gave me. This was a very strange film with so much bad acting that I have to ask again, how did actors like Sarandon and Thompson wind up in a film like this? If you are thinking about watching this movie and are expecting a Karate Kid/Rocky or any good 80's uplifting theme you will be disappointed.
F Is for Family (2015)
Brilliant!
I am a huge fan of Bill Burr's stand up comedy so once I found out that he created this show I had to watch it and I was not disappointed in the least! I have binged watched each season and today starts season 4 and I could not wait to get into it. This show gets better and better and each character has a unique twist and will make you laugh.
Hunters (2020)
What a let down!
I was excited about watching this series after I saw the previews and the cast of actors involved but the opening scene of episode 1 not only diminished my excitment but left we wondering if it was worth my time to continue watching, afterall it was the opening scene so I continued on. A little more than halfway thru the first episode was a shower scene that was so unnecessary that I could not continue to waste anymore time watching this. With such a great cast and a great storyline I cannot understand why there is a need for such unbelievable nonsense! This really could have been a great series but it's nothing more than a fantasy on steroids.
Alpha House (2013)
John Goodman in the cast - You know it's a winner!
If you take life way to serious then you will find fault with this series and judging by the comments only a few fall into this group. Like the majority of the people who watch or have watched this series I found it to be extremely good. John Goodman was made for this type of role and I only wish it was still going on. If only more shows could come together like this one! Great while it lasted.
4:44 Last Day on Earth (2011)
So glad I don't judge movies from so called film experts!
This film was not intended to be a "Fire and Brimstone disaster thriller" but rather a glimpse of how two people decide to spend their last hours on earth. Unlike the "Film Experts" or so they would have you believe, this film does explain (not in great detail) why the end is coming and how a few people get ready for it. The film in my opinion was designed to make you think about what could happen and not send you off into a "make believe" world of outlandish stunts and explosions, etc. There are more than enough of those films if that is what you are into. The setting for this film is fantastic and the acting was great. After watching this movie it made me think long and hard about what it would be like if the end were a few short hours away, so the way I see it the film did what is was meant to do.
