Wild West (1992)
Charming movie - ironic because country music is now big in UK
This was such a great 90's film that featured country music. Only now in 2014 has the youth of Britain really got into country music. So this was ahead of its time (yes, I know another review already said that). The story felt so real because it was filmed in typical London suburbs where Indian, Jewish and Irish all live together. It could have been a fly on the wall documentary or reality item because it had that look and feel about it. I wonder why this is not shown on TV ever? Film 4, as far as I am aware, never show it. One issue is that the title "Wild West" has been given to so many film now that it can cause confusion. The excellent music included covers of Nanci Griffith and Steve Earle songs. I really cannot recommend this film highly enough.
The Quiet Hour (2014)
Excellent acting and high quality production
As a non sci-fi fan I was very impressed with this film. The acting and production was superb and the drama felt like an event that really could and did happen. I did not need to use too much imagination. The film felt 'expensive' even if the budget was not. The setting (a remote house in woodland/forest) was perfect and there was a dark charm to the location. I'd quite like to live there despite the nature of the events that took place. The editing, acting and story came together to make an excellent film - and I genuinely feel invested in the lives of the characters and wonder what happened to them next. Dakota Blue Richards who was brought to the big screen in The Golden Compass was impressive as where the rest of the cast. The look and feel of this film was of a much higher quality than even BBC Dr Who or other mainstream sci-fi manages to produce.
Screenplay: Safe (1993)
Memories of this film!
One night, 20 years ago, I stumbled across this moving drama and (like the other reviewer) felt very moved by it. I was a teenager and felt sad for the kids in the film, around my age who were homeless and in need.
It was this film that got me into Billy Bragg as he performed the moving theme song.
It is a tragedy that this has not been on TV or released to buy.
The performance by Kate Hardie was superb and it was filmed in a documentary style. I have tried to track this down and may contact the BBC as it is perfect for BBC4. I believe it was from the Screenplay series but thought it was slightly earlier than 1993.
It was the first time I'd seen a drama with Robert Carlyle. I recall some scenes were filed around the Euston or Kings Cross area of London but might be wrong.
