Ladybugs (1992)
90s Gem of a Comedy
Nostalgia gripping me hardcore right now, as I sit at my boring job, reminiscing about the first time I saw this movie.
I was 7- and this was when Jonathan Brandis (RIP) was all over Teen Beat and Tiger Beat magazines. 90s hearthrob at his finest. I remember pressing rewind, over and over, at the daydream scene with him kissing Vinessa Shaw- wishing that were me!
Back to 2018...can you imagine them making a movie like this, in today's society, without it causing a riot? For many, many reasons....
Anywho...perhaps it's best it stay golden, in the 90s. Another movie where characters didn't have to be over-the-top, obnoxiously offensive and it was still funny AF. Like the bar scene, were Rodney Dangerfield gets thrown out? Dying laughing just thinking about it. Or the hilarious clap-back jokes R.D. would say, especially against the other soccer coaches. "Coach Bull, huh! I know your FULL name!" or "Good thing she isn't two faced. If she were, she'd wear the other one!".
This movie is a must see.
Dumb and Dumber To (2014)
What A Shame
To have the opportunity to continue the hilariousness that is of LLoyd Christmas and Harry Dunne, and completely butcher it, making them not DUMB anymore, but full-blown retarded...I mean...what a shame. What a DAMN shame!
Had this been made in the 90s...it may have been better. But, humor has changed over the last 20 years. Nobody thinks subtleties are funny anymore. Today, you have to be almost absolutely foul in order to get a chuckle. And it hurts characters like these guys, because they weren't meant to be foul. They were meant to be simple. And it worked back then! But now? Not so much. Simple is no longer funny. Simple makes you have to think...and nobody likes thinking anymore. If it's not in your face offensive, it's not hilarious! Desensitization is to blame here.
Seriously what were they thinking, though...not knowing what "sex" is? Not knowing how human reproduction works?
And lets talk about how slipping back into character was a complete FAIL for Daniels, but easy peasy for Carey. It was so obvious that it was painful to watch! Talk about a real struggle. This character MADE Daniels...but jumping back into him proved to be a impossible task. It was as if Daniels was trying to jump into the character of Harry of when he was a teen, played by Derek Richardson in Dumb and Dumberer- (another terrible movie).
You directors had the world and you crushed it. What a shame. What a damn...shame....
Dumb and Dumber (1994)
They Don't Make 'Em Like This Anymore
When being dumb was actually funny- without the over-the-top swearing and extra crap that didn't need to be there. You know...back when you could actually WATCH a comedy in front of your small children...
Oh how I miss the days when you could get by with hilarious inappropriateness without it being so blatantly obvious and in your face! Like when Mary told Harry that she didn't want to bore him with her problems, and how he said "Thanks", instead of being a caring, considering person who pressed on for details. Or, when LLoyd told the old woman who was *going* to help him out: "Senior citizens, although slow, and dangerous behind the wheel, can still serve a purpose. I'll be right back. Don't you go dying on me!" ...
And then she jacks his stuff.
That kind of comedy is dead. Nowadays you have to drop F bombs to keep anybody's attention, or they will miss this subtle stuff.
90s...the last of great comedies!
Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016)
Nice Prequel- Pretty Decent
Yeah some bits were lame, sure. But that kid? Creepy AF.
I was wondering about the story of "DZ" and Paulina. I think they did a good job with this prequel. I was sufficiently creeped out.
Verónica (2017)
People Turned This Off...WHY?
With all the hype behind it, with the claims that people were SO scared that they couldn't even finish the movie, made me think: YES! FINALLY! Something worthy! AND, it's a NETFLIX movie!
What.The.Hell.....
What a joke. The movie was garbage- plain and simple. Were there some freaky parts? Yes. Was it turn-off-your-TV worthy? Absolutely not. And if you did turn off your TV, you are a sissy, and shameful to society.
I've watched commercials scarier than this movie.
Trolls (2016)
Super Cute
Not as lame as I thought it was gonna be. Really enjoyed it. And Bridget? I wish I could pull her out of the screen and hug her.
F Is for Family (2015)
F is for Freakin Fantastic
This is not your average offensive cartoon. This is next level brilliance. We're talking F bombs here, P bombs there..
That being said, I about choked on my pizza the moment my father-in-law said he gave this show a go. Didn't like it, but that's to be expected. If you are not into swearing, then this show definitely is NOT for you.
Kevin....oh, Kevin...how I love your character. Justin Long is ridiculously funny.
Fifty Shades Freed (2018)
50 Shades Disappointed....
Man what a joke. I thought this film would make me feel good about paying through the nose at the movie theater to watch it, but I was sadly mistaken.
How can you take a powerhouse male such as Christian Grey, someone deeply f**ked up, twisted, and sexy as hell...and make a comedic family man out of him? WHAT? They took a lion and turned him into a kitty cat!
What a sloppy trilogy. It was like Christian Grey didn't even exist. There was nothing fierce about him. Instead they want to take meek and mousy Anastasia and try to turn her into some bad-ass and it fails...horribly....
A badly done character swap of epic proportions. Ruined the entire trilogy for me. Not to mention the sloppy story line. The villain was in foster care along with Grey, and was stricken with insane jealousy at his privileged adoption. HOW BORING. Same story-line from Blades of Glory, from the cut scenes!
Worst $40 ever spent, seeing this garbage movie. They screwed Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson. I bet they are glad it's done and over with.
Total Divas (2013)
It ran it's course
The show was cool at first...but then it went downhill when it became all about the Bellas. Then one leaves WWE to start on her family and she still gets air time because...? She's not even wrestling anymore. Just because her sister and husband are still involved...why are they still broadcasting what goes on in her life? The other divas are completely overlooked. And despite the "reality TV" claim on this show...there is a lot that goes on that is CLEARLY scripted. If you want to watch a reality show that doesn't seem realistic at all, this is the one.
Beat Shazam (2017)
Predictably Entertaining
If you want a game to play with your family while watching TV, watch this show. In my house, we make our own teams and keep our own scores, which makes this show much more entertaining to watch. I see a board game of this in the future...and I hope it comes with thousands of songs because I would play the heck out of it. And I would probably win, too.
That being said...I feel like it could be more challenging for the contestants. There are decades and decades of music and I feel like they don't change it up enough. I mean, unless you are really trying to give that million dollars away?? It's too easy. We are living in a day and age where nobody listens to only one genre of music. Everybody is pretty much eclectic. Throw some oldies in that mix...like Simon and Garfunkle...Hall and Oates...Paul Anka, Dion, Chuck Berry....don't cater to just the last 30 years!
Good Witch (2015)
Lacking the Magic
This series is good but is seriously lacking some magic. There is more to a witch than just her keen intuition. And why don't they cast? Someone comes in the room and they can tell who it is by not even looking at them. Really? That's it? That's all you're going to give us, hallmark? Come on. And that mayor...seriously....over-the-top woman who makes me just cringe whenever she appears in a scene. She's like an obnoxious fairy god-mother who isn't magical at all, just loud and overly ridiculous. Makes me feel like I am watching a really bad play sometimes. This show is good to watch on a slow, rainy day...otherwise if you watch it when the weather is good, it feels like it's never- ending. Like the show just keeps on going on and on....a very dragging feeling.
Little Women: LA (2014)
The Show In A Nutshell
The whole point of this series (I thought) was to show the world that LP's can do anything we average size people can do, and to see life from their point of view, by sharing their struggles and successes as an LP. Well...they've certainly showed that they can be successful in the game of complete pettiness, with their backstabbing friendships and constant bickering. I thought this was supposed to be a powerful series that shows some type of LP Pride...but the message gets lost with all the non-stop drama between each group (Not just L.A.). They do nothing positive for their LP brand. The whole "anything you can do, I can do better" attitude toward average size people is a joke! Congratulations on being just as nasty, just as cruel, and pretty much just as useless as we average people can be on national television.
Son of Zorn (2016)
Freakin Hilarious
Totally overlooked series. Would appeal to the younger crowd if they gave it a chance, but even more-so...people in their 30s. At first I was turned off with the whole cartoon/real life setting, and thought it would be stupid, but no...no no, I was wrong. This show is brilliantly hilarious. Zorn is the best.
