About the same as Black Panther and Thor 1
7 March 2019
Let's be honest, Thor 1 was not that amazing (infact the first 2 weren't). It was cheesy, terrible pacing, Writing was a bit off, and of course Chris Helmsworth was just getting into his role and learning what it means to be Thor. The classic "Guy loses his powers, has to become worthy again" story done weaker.

Black Panther was nothing more than a set up for Infinity War so they could have a battlefield nobody would get hurt on or the world be able to see happening. The Writing, effects, and story fell a bit flat in terms its execution. And let's not forget the huge false political narrative behind the film.

Captain Marvel is both of these films, which is why I briefly summarized them in a review to this film. Brie Larson doesn't fit as Captain Marvel the same way people thought Chris Helmsworth didn't really fit Thor (at the time). Maybe with a stroke of luck she can fill the role and evolve like Chris did, but it feels off the way the movie displays it. At least in Thor you knew the attitude and personality Chris was trying to convey, Brie Larson doesn't seem to be able to convey anything at all. None of her expressions feel genuine, and everytime she shows emotion it feels like she is looking into the mirror more than the audience's heart, like a one -way mirror. The pacing of the story is terrible. Some moments DID indeed have me laughing. I felt some of the comedic moments were done well while others fell completely flat. The movie is like Black Panther in terms of how it was marketed. Shove a huge political agenda behind it, label anyone who disagrees as "Biggoted trolls" and hope that the narrative it pushes is enough to guarantee it 10/10 ratings.

I want to make it clear, I have no issues with Females in movies as any role. I loved Alita Battle Angel, Terminator 1&2, Alien franchise, Peppermint, and so much more. The reason those movies were successful wasn't because the female was "Strong and Empowered", but because the writing was done well to make them a human being you can shout and cheer for and cry in their weakest moments of despair. I felt none of that with Captain Marvel. It was as if they were afraid to give her any moment of weakness or vulnerability to over come because "Empower Empower ALWAYS A STRONG FEMALE CAUSE 2019". The film even says it. And in the end we all know she fully recognizes her power. Only problem is she convey's no emotion to show a change in character.

5/10. I hope she isn't the "Deus Ex Machina" for defeating Thanos. If you want a strong female to kill Thanos, do it Comicbook right by having Nebula achieve it.
