Nefes: Vatan Sagolsun (2009)
Not that good!
Just a mediocre movie! I don't understand whats all the fuzz about. Before i went to see the movie, i looked at IMDb. It had a 9.3. Therefore i had big expectations. The movie starts well, but gets boring very soon. Some of the scenes were good. But the end was a real mess. The scene with the Kurdish girl was embarrassingly bad. No girl in the mountain wears make-up. What did he meant to say with that scene when the tel is on. Should the girls be models or something? Some of the less intelligent commentators said its better than saving private Ryan. Not a slightly chance. I give it 1 star because its overrated. Normally i would give it 6 stars.
On the Way to School (2008)
What a wonderful documentary!!!!
I saw this documentary in a dutch cinema. The film is about a teacher from the west of Turkey who is send to teach in an elementary school in a village in the east of Turkey. The people in the east are very poor and don't have anything at all. The teacher is Turkish and the people in the village Kurdish. Most of the kids don't speak Turkish at all. It's the job of the teacher to teach them Turkish and thats a tuff job. The teacher comes from a big city and in the village there is nothing. Even the electricity comes and goes. There isn't any form of social life. The film was so touching, warm and hilarious. I had a constant smile in my face. What I liked the most was that the film wasn't politically judging anyone. It just shows the events happening during one year in the village from the angle of the teacher. I recommend this movie for everyone. Although the film wasn't judging anyone, Turkey should invest lots of more in the east of Turkey. It is a shame for Turkey that those people are living in poverty. No matter what they say Turkish and Kurdish people are brothers!!!
A.R.O.G (2008)
Cem Yilmaz doesn't do the job this time
First of all I'am a huge fan of cem yilmaz, I adored his stand-up shows and the movies he played in. The first movie he made himself was G.O.R.A. He did play in it, write it and did the directing with Ömer Faruk Sorak(Vizontele). The movie was about Turks in space, it was a very good movie, the jokes were hilarious and I gave it a 10. Now he made the sequel A.G.O.R. with another director Ali Taner Baltaci which was a co-assistant at vizontele. The sequel is this time about Turks in the pre-historic time. The movie wasn't what I expacted at all. The effect were lots of better than the first part, but the movie was boring and the jokes weren't funny expact 2 or 3 jokes. I really wonder why this movie was so bad was it because of Ali Taner Baltaci? or is Cem Yilmaz not so funny as he supposed to be?
