The Riot Club (2014)
Dissapointing to say the least
Just bad, from start to finish. No more words needed.
The Art of Getting By (2011)
Its time to motivate yourself to do
I think many of us can relate to George (Freddie Highmore) whilst growing up. No reason to get up in the morning, to go to school, to do schoolwork. Lack of motivation, no sense of time or space, in limbo, while everything happens around you and you are merely a spectator.
And just like that, a small instance of happiness comes along, here in the shape of young love, and it changes your outlook on everything.
The main character was lucky to have teachers who showed as much support as they could without handing out anything freely. When you are young most people will tear you down and project their unhappiness on you, only a few will understand how important those years are, and how important every decision is.
By the end, George may seem to grasp the meaning of how achieving something may open the doors to new experiences.
Sally (Emma Roberts) on the other hand, who seems ahead of her age throughout the film, is really on the run from everything. She came across to me as perpetually sad, lonely and for most of it, intentionally numb to her feelings and actions. That feeling where she doesn't deserve to be.
Whilst the happy ending is very characteristic of a Hollywood teenage drama (it does not resonate with me on a personal note), I am glad it ended like that because real life scenarios are way more painful.
Girlboss (2017)
light hearted and full of charm
I am not sure why I am reading so many bad reviews.
This show was very entertaining and easy to watch. Yes Sophia was a brat and all that, regardless she was just trying to make sense of everything, herself, her parents and her career (when she had always been told that she was most likely to fail at everything). The most charming part was how she always admitted how badly she had behaved. Her friendship with Annie was truly great to watch, and the break up scene, oh it just felt so real. How many times have I and I am sure many many girls have had similar conversations. I am so sad that I wont see any more of this.
