Creed III (2023)
just like star wars, not a continuation but remakes only.
The first creed was a rocky one remake.
Creed one point five is completely missed. We never get to see creed take the title. We are only told about it.
The second creed was a rocky three and four remakes mashed together. Creed/rocky lost, even if the brute/clubber lang won but then was disqualified. Then creed/rocky makes a come back and wins by the end of the movie against the brute/clubber defeating mother russia in russia.
Trivia note, found it ironic that rocky's son lives in vancouver were rocky four was made in the pne agrodome that was playing the role of an arena is russia. It would have been hilarious and nostalgic if they used the agrodome again.
Then creed three takes a twist of remakes by remaking the first black panther with the childhood cry baby that got left behind. This time war monger is creed/black panther and the crybaby/warmonger is the same character by a different name in a different named movie.
Would have been nice if any of the three were original. I mean, history does repeat itself, only if you dont learn history. But these guys wrote that history and just took the easy way out. Throwing in some references of the original movies would have been cool, but to just remake them was disappointing.
Some Assembly Required (2014)
great show, funny and creative scripts and screen play sit com kids show
There is a few people on here deliberately writing a lot of 1-3 start ratings and you can tell they have never even seen the show with zero references to the show in each review. Why? Its funny. Its better than most supposedly adult shows on prime time slots. And i don't blush watching it with my kids.
Even tho she had the meanest character, the janitor/ex owner is the best. Everything always seems to accidentally but nicely all fall into place for everyone, even her.
My kids like this show and i like it even more than they do. Its easy on the eyes and mind, repeats are just as fun the second time around too.
Don't Worry Darling (2022)
what a mess of to many ideas going in different directions.
Imagine you have at least three or more very flamboyant but very different from each other suits. You decide to wear a piece from each one. They are all very nice suits on their own, but combined, they look horrible together. That is what this movie is. A mess of ideas. Of other people's movies already made. The matrix, the James bond super villain, star trek's holodeck. And mostly, sunshine of the eternal mind. Don't forget Alice in wonderland. Had to come back to this, must include a wrinkle in time book.
I really wanted to like this movie, it was obvious an old story told many times before and very well most of those times. I just wanted to see their version of it.
'spoilers galore people, sorry.'
very out of order of how the movie was presented but how it should have been instead.
Alice in wonderland's husband sees her as miserable in the real world so he finds someone who can put her into a meta universe of his own creation. A computer simulation. He did this for her with the best of intentions. She doesn't know she is in a simulation. A few characters try to help the husband cover up the glitches in the program when she starts to see the glitches and unwrap the truth of what has happened to her. Instead of trying to reassure her or reprogram the glitches, maybe while she is asleep, at least virtually, they make it seem like there is something evil and sinister going on. The boss even watches them have virtual reality cybersex for some reason, because he is not really a super villain but a one of the programmers of the secret simulation. Her husband works at a mysterious job with the super villain. Why does he need to be a super villain? Why does the job need to be a secret? They could have easily said they all work for NASA or something similar and not left it evil sounding, as you find out in the end, it didn't need to sound evil.
Lets fix that then. Part of Alice's problem with this matrix is its not meshing with her mind. Hence the eternal sunshine part. OK, leave it at that, makes the story more interesting. But let only her mind be actually going bonkers because of the lack of compatibility with the program. As if she was having psychosis in the real world. And it keeps waking her up out of her hypnotic state. That every time the real world is to much for her, the puts this device in her eyes on her own, voluntarily, before she goes to sleep, yet her mind wont let it work for her and jogs her out of her sleep, when she wakes up, we the audience find out its all a programmed dream she uses to escape reality for a short amount of time. Even if the dreams seem like years.
Oh ya, i forgot, they live in the dessert, in the 1950's in a town that was built specially for the company employees only. Where women mostly didn't work, they stayed at home and took care of the house and kids, those who had them. This town is perfect, everyone does the same thing every day and are scorned for deviating from it. Just like in the wrinkle book. These kids are Computer simulation kids. The sims, holodeck version. They are not real kids. This is so Alice and stay home, not work and relax because in the real world, she worked 30 hour shifts as a doctor but yet they lived in poverty.
Jack goes off to work in sim land, but in reality he is waking up out of the simulation to got to a job in the real world he hates completely to pay for the simulation world to keep his wife happy. Of which she ends up hating more than Jake hates his job to pay for her to hate,, ugh.
You don't find this out until close to the end. So then you got to ask, why did they make it out to be evil and sinister then? Jack did this because he loves his wife so much he hated to see her over worked, tired and miserable, of which she states later that she actually really loved being over worked and tired yet not miserable.
When Alice accidentally sees something she isn't supposed to, she tries to escape. She finds out how also accidentally. The only escape is to reach the villains house and touch the window that shuts off the sim for her. Hence the matrix connection. But she doesn't wake up in the real world, she wakes up back in the simulation. Not just with the simulation part, they had to make it extra obvious they didn't have any of their own original ideas. Putting her back into the simulation is easy the first time and instead of wiping her memory of any glitches she encountered, they leave all her memories about it intact. Why would they do that you might ask, especially when they had to wipe her memory in the first place when they initially put her into the simulation for her to accept that she actually does live in the dessert utopia in the 1950's. She plays along with it for a while. We see her have flashbacks of her real world life so we know she knows its all fake and she kills her husband after he confesses when she confronts him about it all. After all, no big deal, its all fake, so is her husband.
So this is where she tries to escape again. And she makes it. Along the way, red coverall wearing goons try to stop her after she kills her husband's simulation character, she is told her husband will die in the real world, more matrix stuff. And now they have to kill her to keep them from being found out. Why? If its all supposed to be for the good. Yet its still super villain evil. Even the big bad boss's wife ends up stabbing and killing him. Again, why? This is all supposed to be with the best of intentions. So what if she escapes out of it and back into the real miserable world? Where she sleeps like a vegetable and never eats or goes to the toilet. Hmm?
The worst part of the movie is the ending, or the lack of one, it didn't end. We see Alice touch the window again and it all goes blank again and we hear her wake up violently but we see nothing because that's when the credits roll and we don't have any anti climax we are all so accustomed to, and we should be, that's how stories supposed to end. Have you ever scored the winning goal and instantly fell asleep?
Again, i wanted to like this many times told very old formula of a movie but the movie wouldn't let me with all the huge plot holes so big galactic could have flown threw them.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
studios should give refunds for such bad products.
Spoilers of course;
what a mess of a few good ideas. Neo was a whinny little b&^%$ the whole movie. Practically whispered/cried ever line of his.
Going back and forth in time, well, at least back as they forgot to mention they went forward as well.
Oh the betrayal, of every long waited sequel. I did like the messing with neo's head to make him think he imagined the whole thing caused by to much stress designing the imaginary game of it all. Ok, the game was real, in the movie. So why not a real movie in the movie of the game of the movie in the movie?
That trinity could bond with a person, her matrix husband, for 20 plus years and her very own kids, cyber or otherwise then ditch them instantly is in itself inhuman of her trying to regain being human. How about bring them along? Her time with neo is done even if cheated out of that relationship.
That the exiles are more powerful than any other character, they can be shot and not die but agent smith and his like can be? And who the hell are they? No explanation offered except to have yet another unnecessary fight scene.
That agent smith helped them while hindering them and then for whatever reason, ended their alliance.
Any why was morpheus human then not human? Not to mention they didnt re use the larry, the original actor while they re used all the rest of the main character's actors. Except agent smith. I didnt read anything as to why a new actor played him.
To many inconsistencies and contradictions.
This seems to be a remake of the force awakens bad idea using the matrix universe that was a remake of its own original movie as well.
I could have accepted that the matrix world and Zion moved on in peace the entire time until the rogue program of the therapist aka, computer virus, tries to take over. Then having Zion having to rescue the matrix from the therapist working together with agent smith and company.
Putting Neo back in the pod just seemed silly and ruined the plot/story cuz the writer/director ran out of ideas and didn't really care much about it except the pay cheque.
Some of the same mistakes that i didn't like in the original movie;
you die in real life if you die in the game/matrix. Should never have been. Should have only been booted out of the game at a crucial point and to find their way back in, aka, re-spawning.
That the matrix seems to be based of the dark net hackers. Not one program to be monitored by its own self that would spot any hacker instantly every time but everyone's just like the net actually is in our world. But this movie isnt our world, its the matrix world that has one only hard drive, so to speak and it programs itself.
As in, if I'm good at coding and hacking, i would instantly know someone else hacking my computer. Not so in the internet. But wasn't the matrix implying its one computer, not a system of computers intranetted together?
These are the kind of things this and every movie should be scruntinized over before release so its not just a lot of pretty CGI flash bangs money grab. Fix the stupid mistakes first please. I feel cheated out of my money otherwise and would prefer to be refunded like any other good product name offers their customers.
Battlestar Galactica (2004)
as the world turns
Is this a sci fi show or a prime time soap like desperate housewives?
in the end after all seventy something shows, it had a good strong story and then i still ended up not liking the ending. the very stereotypical hide all the evidence of aliens ending. but if you edit out all the soap opera drama down to one season, this would have been an excellent show. the soap stuff threw to many randoms into the story to have it end up exactly like they wanted it to. the flash backs were annoying and the soft porn stuff shouldn't have been there at all. why should there be such stuff in a show one might want to watch with their young kids but cant? then the soap stuff wasn't consistent at all, made wanting to keep watching a difficult decision. the probability for all the romance and back stabbing and relationship boinking of musical chairs all in order was a horrible mess in the hopes of keeping the show stretched out for not just one season. characters didnt stay in character, good guy one show when its needed, then villain in the next show only cuz its needed but not in character of that particular character. like felix mutiny, felix, the guy that put his life on the line in another episode to save everyone was now willing to kill everyone he just finished helping. that was not who he is at all. the mutiny showed him to be very narrow minded while in all the other shows he adapted to situations for the good of the whole but in this show he couldn't see taking sides with cylons that rebelled in their favor. etc etc etc.
like i said, edit it down to one season and its a great and very intelligent show. it didn't need to be a soft porn drawn out soap opera.
many others have said the same thing, throwing their tech into the sun in hopes of avoiding the same mistakes, yet they kept cylons, who are very high tech. and then starbuck just vanished, for no reason. and never explained why she died or even blasted in the first place. that she went to earth to find the way back again for them all only to find a wasteland planet. and that the cylons were the missing link colonists, like ugh. if they were, that means that the humans and cylons at that time were on the best of terms, yet no explanation of why the 13 tribe killed themselves off completely, they just did. how boring of a planet that only had 8 of their kind and a billion of each of the 8. imagine having only 8 cars or houses or whatever is it you can choose from to live out your entire life. maybe the blew themselves up out of sheer frustrated boredom, like this show was making me feel from one to the next with all the soap crap in the way of a good story idea. if i didnt pay for the discs, i wouldnt have keep watching until the end. i would have stopped half way through the first season. i almost did anyways.
Duke Nukem Forever (2011)
game play is very lacking, unequal
OK, so it was a long time coming, i didn't care about that. what i did care about is that the bad guys are ten times faster than me on the easiest level. and their graphics are so bland. they are all one colour and all bland.
the 1996 disk had both of the previous games and they were more fun than this game in2d. and the 3d game then the 3d world tour extra levels game was great. why? because as fast as the bad guys could move, so could duke. not here in forever.
and i could tell one bad guy from the other. not here. they were all bland dark grey and boring looking. in the old version, lots of colour and easy to identify. the rest of the game is quite colourful, why not the bad guys too? most when they showed up took me a while to realize who they were from the previous game.
next, the controls, the game play is crap. i didn't mind that duke can only carry two weapons because it always seems odd that lots of games the hero can carry a dozen heavy weapons that vanished into a parallel universe until you needed them. didn't like the checkpoint via halo clone. loved being able to save just after or before a known very tough part. so not to constantly repeat all the easy stuff up to that. unless you accidentally saved the game when you died at the boss level, instead of reloading it, like i did the first time i played duke 3d and had to play the entire level all over again. but again, the worst part is that on the piece of cake difficulty level that the bad guys are still ten times faster than duke is. duke is a clumsy bum in this game. he cant run, he dies so easily. cant med up. hit steroids and he drops his guns and can only punch and if the enemy is flying nothing to punch. ugh. the game play in this game is crap. all other things considered, the game play is what ruins it the most.
The Mule (2018)
given the subject matter, it was too nice
I enjoyed the actors, the directing, the filming, etc etc. but it was to nice of a story of usually dangerous, murderous drug dealing gangsters. it might as well have been made a comedy. the head bad guy was the only death cuz he was too nice even though he was supposedly doing it very well. he wasnt bad enough for the rest of the bad guys who acted tough but didnt do anything tuff. oh ya, i forgot about the guy in the trunk, used as an example. and clint did get roughed up a bit after disappearing for over a week with 12 mil of their drugs. not shot on sight you would expect from evil gangsters. the gangsters were so nice, the cops were so nice, his family ended up being so nice and finally the prison ended up being so nice. it was just to nice. should have been a comedy so i can laugh along with it and not at it.
Ford v Ferrari (2019)
facts vs fiction
As much as i liked this movie for what it is, fictional. based on true events. but this isnt a true story. some of the basic facts are in there but when a movie based on history should be as historical as that history. creative licensing is a stupid way to make any movie.
the time line is out. ford started this project without shelby, shelby came later after ford lost his first two tries at le mans. miles drove in the race the movie said that he had to stay home for.
where are all the other cars? for a hundred million dollar budget, they could have at least used some stock footage to show all the other cars in all the other classes that are involved also.
where was the winner's podium? ford and all others protesting that miles should be awarded first prize.
why was ford and his crony made to be villians? after all, it was his company, his cars and his race. why add the fake conflict?
ive seen movies using all the facts from history without distortion. i thoroughly enjoyed them more knowing what i was watching was completely true. and if ive ever enjoyed a movie then later found out the facts were distorted, it ruins the entire experience.
The Twilight Zone (2019)
its not what it was intended to be.
Remember when the corvette came out and it stayed a two seater sports car to this day. then the tbird came out in competition but then turned into a family luxury car.
not to mention that whatever the new starwars movies are trying to be, have nothing to do with what the actual storyline history.
so now the new so called twilight zone is taking short stories intended to be scary and turning them into boring tv show episodes. they are like greek tragedies. sad and predictable. and boring.
the best part of rod's versions were they were short. 30min each. in its last year, the executives wanted it longer and rod argued against it. they were good but hard to sit through the longer episodes. its probably what killed the show and got it cancelled.
a good joke doesnt take long to tell, it has a good twist in the punch line and its not obvious. these new shows are none of that, except being obvious.
rod's next show, the night gallery, is a lot more like the new twilight zone. i didnt care for them much but at least they were told in a tightened up format that didnt have time to bore you, at only 10 min each, 2 per show. maybe these shows too would be easier to handle at 10 min instead of an hour minus commercials.
as they are, i cant imagine the show not getting cancelled soon unless they change their format asap.
The Scarehouse (2014)
ambitious amateur theater.
I liked this movie. it was obvious not a big budget flick. but it was well thought out and nicely filmed. it did take a bit to figure out the flashbacks vs current day differences but after that i had no problems with it. i was entertained. im absolutely sure those who have put this movie down and rated it around the 1 star range, are the same types i see when i go to youtube and ebaums type video sites just to trash whatever video is being featured. its one thing to have corp execs give 10/10 fake reviews, its worse when someone rates it 1/10 just to be a cyber bully.
this was not big budget poltergeist/saw etc, but it was a good fun well made movie.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
a reunion show more than an avengers movie.
I didn't like end game much. to long. to slow. to sloppy, to weak of a plot. to many cameos.
thanos had to much physical power, all the other superheros got their power from outside sources, his was never explained. is it supposed to be his is born that way? even in infinity war he had to much physical strength. of which i didnt like the beginning of showing the end of 'thor, ragnorock, victorious ending being totally useless. a better ending and more tense/suspenseful scene would have been showing them fly off towards thanos ship in waiting.
if thanos got his strength from some unnatural method, i missed that being explained. then why no others like him? comics say he is a titan. why no other titans?
the key points in the movie's end fight scenes were far to subtle and why did iron man have to die because he used the glove? it was never explained. thanos never suffered using them, only destroying them. and so many others had it, why didn't they use it? even if it would kill them, whether they knew it would kill them or not, they could have ended it all instantly.
the time travel thing was oh so sloppy. seems it was used only to go over the list of all the other movies. was more like a reunion documentary than an actual movie. bored the crap out of me. and the stupid mistakes made me upset.
so now they have all the stones, with or without a glove, why did they need time travel machines to go back again to replace them? wouldnt the stones have let them do what they wanted to do, restoring any history they wished, one without thanos? and they could have brought back vision, why didnt they? etc etc etc.
captain marvel was vastly wasted. so was her haircut. what was the point of that? she said she was needed elsewhere? who cares whats happening in the rest of the universe when its not going to matter after the glove puts it all back right. the only and the smartest thing about the movie was when thanos took her power stone to beat her. that was the best 10 seconds in the movie. but with that stone, they should have been equal. but then not equal because thanos isnt strong enough to smash entire ships by himself like captain marvel is. she is, without a doubt, by far the strongest character and that strength was not used.
oh ya, that the glove just had to get back to him was such a joke of a cliche. again, should have been used before. the center point of the movie should have been making use of the glove by other means.
thanos and the glove. he is smart enough to build a vast empire, yet he can only think to use the glove to kill. not to created a better method of existence without killing? he not so smart after all. and neither are any of the others for not suggesting something of that sort.
the time travel thing should have put it all back right from the point of before thanos snapped fingers. should have gone back to the point where star lord should have shot thanos and ended it all, and then actually shoot him and end it all. of which that star lord didnt shoot him was the stupidest and weakest part of infinity wars. he was going to kill him but got so upset at him that he didnt kill him. huh? how does that work? who else would not have instantly shot thanos upon hearing such news?
the only thing this movie was successful for was giving out as many paycheques as possible. the most cameos any movie ever had. did they really need to do that? showing 3 second clips at the end in the credits of each actor would have been better. at least less boring.
they didnt just want to end the story line, they wanted to end my interest in it also. i watched them all just to make sure i didnt miss anything that might have been worth while. some of the others were just great. this one was far from it.
Blair Witch (2016)
cliched but still good
To many old tricks and borrowed, stolen, reused, over used. etc. nicely done though. if no others before it, this would be top notch. even then, the story telling is predictable even if at times, confusing. to many past events ignored while present events are affected by them. once dead bad guy shows up ok and then not treated as bad guy or as dead. hrmmm. not ok. then falling on original story line as if you saw it, were graded and the home work handed back as incomplete. if not for the obvious errors, and the lack of effort to work them out, this would have been an all time classic.
9JKL (2017)
to many fake reviews.
I liked this show. it was not great it was good. it was not bad. there are so many fake bad reviews as if it was targeted with a vengeance to get it off the air. it was inconsistent and often stereo typical crap that almost all sit coms but the best are. but only the best is only the few as well. so then why this show was cancelled was probably a lack of gangster style ass kissing. that is all.
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (2018)
regardless of what this was supposed to be for others, i liked this movie
Ive never seen the ballet. never read the original story that was changed greatly for the ballet, so ive read.
i enjoyed what i saw, it was fun even if not completely original. a hint of battle droids and a somewhat cliched hidden betrayal story.
my only complaint, it should have been longer. about 30 minutes longer. it felt a over edited, maybe to keep the kids from getting bored. this isnt just a kids movie. it kept me from really getting into it more than i did.
it looks great and is acted great. i enjoyed everything i saw, just wish there was more to see.
The Meg (2018)
trailers scared me away.
I probably would have seen this on the big screen if the commercials didnt make it look like a sharkanado movie, of which i avoided like the plague.
i saw this on a plane trip.
i really enjoyed it. it is a great movie. better than most other recent monster type movies.
the trailers should have been real. it cost them big time.
Mary Poppins Returns (2018)
only a six. and only cuz of fast talking
Spoilers, sorry. not much. emily blunt said she read the books and wanted to be more like the books than the original movie this movie is based on that wasnt based on as much on the books as,,,,,emily should have stuck to the original movie, only.
then, the singing. to fast, couldnt hear most of what was being said. like nine tenths. so it was lost on us. i saw the original, my wife didnt. she was lost, so what does that say for most of the kids today that are not inclined to watch that old of a movie when it comes to this sequel? they wont be impressed at all. without reference and without being able to understand the lyrics in the songs, this movie is lost.
cuz i saw and understood the references, i enjoyed it more than my wife but not by much. the production values of the original were about the same but i could understand without any difficulty what was being sung and said.
this movie was well made except just that, the dialogue and not cuz it was badly written but cuz it was badly spoken or sung, not the actors fault but the director's cuz thats what he asked for and accepted for the final cut.
the last thing i didnt like about this movie. there was a bad guy. why? not needed. wasnt needed for the first one so why for this one? the bad guy only forces plots. and when they are not needed, they ruin plots. the first one did great without a bad guy so i can only think the writers got lazy and threw on in cuz they didnt have enough brain power to go without one.
Aquaman (2018)
very young adolescent comic book on screen.
Cuz im not a teen anymore and probably have seen to many movies; this movie is,
king arthur pulling the sword from the stone. and his knights of the round table.
lots of lord of the rings stuff, giant stone statues, giant monsters of various sizes including a kracken, etc,
starwars stuff, flying ships through lots of tight spaces, even if underwater. a space battle with lots of dogfighting fighter ships and battle ships, all underwater.
if they can swim so fast, why do they need ships, or even the boat?
a bit of harry potter with the hidden world of the undersea people and even some moana stolen plot lines of the bottom of the ocean air bubble and its creatures.
when are they going to have an actual hero that sought out and wants to be a hero? and not someone who is resisting and has to be trained while everyone else who is completely trained and educated sit around waiting and dying.
how many die in the battle only to have the two leaders have mommy make them behave themselves and shake hands to be friends again? i thought was just as story killing as both of them have a mom named martha, even if she was mom to both.
rules of physics kept changing. sometimes the tridents could go through metal without any problems, other times it didnt even scratch, the same metal. can jump out of an airplane a thousand feet up and not get hurt, falls a few feet and gets hurt.
girl beats the crap of out the guards without any problem, then runs like hell from another guard just like the others.
in the beginning the sub, stolen by our bad guy, to shoot at who? the guy who he already has a deal with to start a war so that the shooting sub will make him want to start a war?????????????????
like i said, this movie is great for younger teens. logic is out the window so many times but its a lot of fun to watch if you ignore that. if you can ignore that. i couldnt. if this was a one off never seen before, first of its kind, i would have blasted it, more than i already did :) as a well informed adult with to many movies seen, i give this a 5.5 out of ten. 9 out of ten for everything visual, sfx, acting, dialogue etc. minus 4 points for the plot holes. and that is being generous.
it wasnt at all the aquaman i saw on tv cartoons as a kid, nor in comic books. i missed how much he relied on the animals of the seas for help and him, not his girlfriend, using waterballs as a weapon. and there was no hint, not in the late 60's and early 70's when i watched and read about this character, of an entire underwater kingdom. one that could easily outnumber the surface world. it is 3 times its size and the tech they got? we wouldnt stand a chance. but, like harry potter, they give the right of way to a bunch of ignorant morons like us. i doubt it. they would rule our asses off and probably better at it too.
Kita kita (2017)
very good up to a point.
Sorry, spoilers. lots of them.
i watched/read subtitles this movie with my pinay wife. she cried at the end, i was upset at the manipulation of the guy who died, tonyo. i wouldnt have believed it even if it was a fact by fact true story. especially the bicycle riding scene. a bike built for two would have been better.
if the guy has to die, after he said he had a heart condition only then to get hit by a truck just seemed silly.
i would have enjoyed him getting hit if she got to nurse him back to health after he nursed her back to health. or if he was to die no matter what then please leave out the previous heart break introduction of the movie.
one other reviewer complained of stalking. how so? she found him first, gave him food and encouraged him to pick himself up. even if he was to shy to say anything at the bar, she makes connection to him both times.
she goes blind and he goes to her place with food, his turn to help her pick herself up. the next part i didnt like when he dont properly introduce himself. after all, she already knows him. it would have made the story stronger and the heart ache more sincere even if the letter was still written and read exactly the same way only changing for not being a secret. that part kinda made is silly and weaker.
other than that, it was a very intelligently written movie. smartly planed out and joyfully scripted. the acting, directing and production was of high value. sorry that the story points i made ruined it for me.
Walt Before Mickey (2015)
to much formula
History made for theaters only seems to glorify the hard times before the final fairy tale happy ending. it would have been nice to highlight the highlights. the formula of misery rather than just history is not fun to watch.
what i did like about this movie is i did get to see the history personally. thats about it.
to those putting the movie down to include bad acting because they didnt like the rest of the movie only makes me think they are somebody else's studio propaganda thats happening with all the fake accounts and their fake reviews. the acting was good in a standard way. it was a well made movie in all aspects except, in my opinion, the approach. i wish it paid more attention to the highlights while including the lowpoints without dwelling on them.
Man of Tai Chi (2013)
kinda fresh take on old formula
I enjoyed it. kept my interest for the entire movie. For the money what most of these types of movie is about. its usually someone forced to fight to pay off a debt that was forced on them or a loved one by the bad guy. just as it was here. not badly done though. keaneu as a bad guy, the star power, but it was his movie to begin with. to bad it didnt get much of for marketing and went mostly unheard of. anyone else notice how much family resemblance there was between tiger and keaneu? long lost brothers or cousins? there is an amusing similarity.
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
this was a good telling of actual events of d-day.
War is hell. retelling is is almost as hell. but,,,
what i hated of this movie was seeing how the attack on d-day was so much like shooting fish in a barrel. how badly our side messed up our own soldiers. the landing boats were so stupidly designed. opening from the front instead of the side using the front as cover until it was somewhat safer to disembark. like shooting fish in a barrel. they were fish. the boats were the barrel. why couldnt the boats have landed and then soldiers fired from there for their own cover? why couldnt a lot of thing happened that could have not ended is such a huge loss of life?
how many died by the overly simplistic strategy of flooding the beach until the enemy was overrun?
artillery by land. by ship. bombs by plane. were used but, this battle was sloppy. i know all the other details about this battle. all the hardships and time constraints due to the weather. but there was no lack of time for planning. so what happened? they claimed they didnt know how much defence were waiting for them on the beach. for all they already knew, how is this true?
the higher ups didnt care about the expendable individual. how many did they think was needed? add enough more to make sure it works. it did work.
Grave Halloween (2013)
good modern 'B' movie. spooky stuff here.
Was a lot better than 'the forest' why is it getting such bad reviews? it wasnt a classic A grade movie but a great b movie. what some people might not get why the dead were haunting them is understandable. it is not very clear. my take,
'spoilers'
all the bad things the dead were doing were all due to the lead character's dead mom. she murdered the big sister and probably the dad when she was four, then she was adopted. years later she went looking for where her mom took her own life it the japanese forest near mount fuji. but mom was evil. even though she took her own life cuz she couldnt bare to live with murdering her family, she was still evil, she either controlled the other dead or they were all evil too. images of other dead to scare them. another to mislead them, or guide them, those who are still left alive, to their final doom when they find mom's body, that should have long ago rotted away but was fairly intact. not many mistakes really. was smartly done.
girl wants to find where mom died. she has help from friends. some are not so respectful of the dead, they are warned not to touch or take things, by a local that turns out to be a ghost. one of them takes an abandoned watch, they see ghosts, get spooked a lot. cops, while carrying yet another victim out of the forest, find them and tell them to leave the forest. while trying to get out, they get separated and lost and hurt and killed one by one. even one of the cops gets killed. the girl and the last friend left find mom, mom kills friend, little sister's ghost helps girl, shows her the truth of mom's murders. helps her escape mom then shows her way ot of the forest. cops show up to carry out the bodies and take girl home. cop goes wrong way, girl sees little sister again, she screams. mom is not finished yet.
some might say mom should have had more screen time but i think mom had the most presence once you realise mom is the cause of all that goes wrong. i really enjoyed it as a low budget spooky ghost story.
Second Jen (2016)
funny and real.
I like the snappy dialogue, its a good show, not perfect, but far better than most, plus, none others are perfect either.
second jen, took me a few showing to get the in joke about it.
these people seem real. its a lot like one of my other favorite shows 'the middle' about a semi dysfunctional family, like that overly vast majority of us out in the real world, but is still able to come together in the end to get things done, not destruct.
those hating on it? i don't get it, unless they got a personal agenda that really has nothing to do with this show but for their own attention getting.
Girls Trip (2017)
the only part that is more stupid than this movie is the people laughing at it
It wasn't funny. It was not smart. It was full of clichés and stolen old over used plot devices. predictable. It spent most of its time acting over the top stupid thinking the audience will laugh at extreme stupidity. other movies have done this much better. even with the old and tired plot devices and clichés, because they were funny, i enjoyed the humor. i didn't enjoy this movie and wanted to leave.
Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)
best of the series so far
6.5 but the system demands full numbers. each instalment changes the history of the last. really stupid thing to do. first movie they just landed. second movie has them up against ancient Egypt. third they go even father back in time to when they crashed on the dark side of the moon, a few million years or so. then they change pace to go back to the cartoon origins with walberg and then this time they go to not so far back as the pyramids or the even farther back of the moon to now to back to somewhat but not so ancient England's mythological king Arthur. of which was a better adaption to the guy ritchie movie that i hated so much. so,,,,,, i liked this movie more than all the others. if you saw this one first or you can deliberately block the other movies mentally so the time paradox of history doesn't ruin the story you will like this one. why? well, for one thing, there isn't anywhere near as much incoherent over the top close up of action sfx that i hated in all the others. that's like having a go pro on the gloves on the heavyweights boxing match. i liked the story build up, stupid and silly as it was (messing with your own story history is just wrong, but messing with earth history is OK if you make it logical, it will work) this one built up some story suspense to where i actually cared who kicked who's ass. there was still a lot of in story obstacle mistakes. the robots and humans didn't fight side by side. the robots helped the humans only occasionally and visa versa, sometimes as if the other wasn't even in the movie. what most complained about this movie is there wasn't ass kicking from the start and continuous until the end. they only go out on the weekends to drink and fight. so who cares what they think. this one actually took time to build a story that has suspense so you were able to care about who kicked who's ass in the end battle. and then that's where this one ended up resembling the previous versions where the fighting was to close up and who knows who was fighting who to know what the hell was going on. the beginning wasn't the best. the obviously vastly over matched humans were in charge over the autobots. like, come on, im an autobot conceding to ants telling me what to do no matter how much i i know they are wrong and no matter how much i can just step on them and end that nonsense. still, this one is smarter than the rest so i was able to enjoy it more. its still silly though. i wish they could get over that stuff and make it a solid story/screenplay that doesn't just want to glorify the sfx.
