A Garfield Christmas Special (1987)
A Christmas family favourite
I remember when I was a kid watching this on TV and knowing christmas was coming soon
I still watch it every year it's not christmas without it!
Garfield in Disguise (1985)
Great childhood favourite
I remember watching this on TV around Halloween when I was a kid and it was my absolute favourite then they stopped showing it. Many years later I found it in DVD and was so excited. It really is such a great show!
Enough Said (2013)
This was a comedy?
I watched this because it had a fantastic cast and I wanted to see an actual adult love story. But...it was the same tired story we've seen a million times before. Couple gets together, misunderstanding happens, couple gets back together-ish. The characters behaved in a way no nobody ever would and really weren't relatable. There was no character development at all. Amazing cast though and they did the best they could with what they were given.
Grandma's Boy (2006)
Really underrated film
This is one of my favourite movies. Normally I find stoner humour to be lame and stupid but this movie makes it work. It's high low brow humour and funny as hell. Probably one of the best comedies of the 2000's. If you like to laugh you definitely have to see it!
The Pest (1997)
God it's so hard to be modest!
If you go into this movie expecting Oscar level writing and acting then, well...you're an idiot and deserve to be disappointed. If you've had a hard day and just want to watch something that requires no thought at all then this is the movie for you! It's trash humour in the best way. It's silly, offensive, the special effects are low budget, it makes no sense at all and that's what makes it so great! Over twenty years and I still laugh my ass off everytime I watch it.
The Shape of Water (2017)
Missed the mark
Normally I love Guillermo del Toro's movies. I had such high hopes for this but I'm not even really sure what he was going for with this one. What the heck was that ballroom dancing scene about?
Dumbo (2019)
Just why?
As a stand alone movie this would be a very cute story but if you're going into it looking for the Dumbo story you know and love you'll be disappointed. All of the characters that were essential to the plot development were removed from the story. The crows that teach Dumbo to fly are completely non existent. Timothy Mouse is one of the children's pets that has no dialogue and you only see for about a second. The story is driven by human characters that greatly overshadow Dumbo. I don't think enough thought went into this movie.
The Lion King (2019)
Fantastic!
I am not a fan of Disney remaking every classic movie as live action because they tend to really ruin them. This is almost a shot for shot remake of the original which was really the only way to do this properly. The only thing that kept me from giving this a 10 was Beyonce's performance of "Can You Feel The Love Tonight", by using her own style it felt unnecessarily complicated and somehow less powerful than the original. The visuals, casting and most musical numbers are bang on though. Really well done I was pleasantly surprised.
