I am... Slightly lacking
19 August 2021
I am... a well-off, straight, woman. There's variation in the writing, of course there is. The actors are all brilliant and they are all falling apart in different ways. The protrstyals are brilliant. But there is still a lack of variation and breadth with none of the characters being gay. Seems like a weird oversight.

Amazing action set pieces, 0 sense
21 July 2021
This film looks really cool but the way the story plays out is absolutely infuriating. Like so many things happen that just wouldn't and things play out in the most bizzar ways so that the plot can get to a certain place. Turn your brain off to watch this or be insanely frustrated watching it. Arrrgggghh.

Didn't do it well

All show and no tell, just shows little snippets so not able to go deep enough into the characters and the wider context. Becomes very characaturish and 2 dimensional. The AIDS epidemic was the worst crisis for the queer community and it is amazing that there is a programme about it, but it could have done so much more and barely scratched the surface leaving a feeling of unfulfillment.

Edgy pile of manure
2 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This films tries way too hard to capitalise on the success of John Wick and Kingsman, and yet somehow ironically misses its mark. It tries too hard to be edgy; he has a dog like John Wick and in trying to turn the genre on its head, he kills it himself. This, and when the henchmen for once abandon their doomed boss are the only breaths of fresh air in the film. The action scenes are all nonsensicle, taking stormtrooper aim to a whole new level and the evil villains to new realms of caricature, being repulsive, cocky, stupid and edgily evil with no real motive. It fails misserably. Breif backstory is squashed into the plot trying to make the audience care a bit more for the characters but at the end of the day we really don't. If you're looking for a fun action film to have fun with, look somewhere else, even transformers is better than this steaming pile of manure, at least the action scenes in that are a good laugh. The only good thing about this, as always, is Mads's acting, but if its him you're watching it for just rewatch a bit of Hannible as this really isn't worth your time.

The Good Place (2016–2020)

Wow
29 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This is so well written and not just another pointless, off-the-shelf sitcom. The acting and writing go hand in hand with the actors being cast so well and pulling off their characters perfectly. The characters all play off each other every episode and not just one with one and another with another, the whole cast interacts which you don't always get in sitcoms these days. This may be considered a spoiler but it isn't specific it just outlines a general thing that happens. The twist that happens in one episode was, for me, completely unpredictable and even after it the caliber of the programme only improves. It doesn't lose momentum or run out of ideas. Very well done to all involved and you should definitely watch this show. I really can't find fault with it.

Nurse Jackie: The Lady with the Lamp (2014)
Season 6, Episode 8

Ruined by the ending
5 June 2016
This would have been a great episode but the ending completely ruined it. After having a dream about all her duties she neglected while an addict and then as soon as she is sober having her daughter opening up to her for the first time in a long time she would not relapse straight away. It felt really unnatural as if it was just used so they could make more seasons although the storyline of helping her daughter and trying to stay sober would have been a great one. Of course addiction is unpredictable but the whole episode sets up the fact that she is willing to fight and how she is glad that she is getting sober again, also with the set up from previous episodes of hearing her daughter's speech about Jackie's addiction, then finding out the she herself has been taking and hiding them really just made the ending even worse and completely ruin what would have otherwise been an episode to start her redeeming arc as a mother.
