Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
Nope
The best part of this movie was the sledgehammer. It represents how hard this series has been beaten to death. If you appreciate a movie based solely on the nostalgia of a character, but absolutely nothing else, this is the one for you.
3 from Hell (2019)
This movie could have been great, but....
If you are like me, you probably thought that the ending to The Devils Rejects was incredible, almost majestic. TDR was one of the best horror movies at the time and was a great equal. With that said, 3 From Hell was not. If you are someone that just watched House of 1000 Corpses and The Devils Rejects for the first time recently, you might enjoy 3 From Hell. If you have been waiting the 14 years for this movie, it will be a let down. Zombie ended TDR on an incredible note, so having those 14 years to plan out another return of the Firefly family, you would think it would be something unique and unexpected. It wasn't. Your explanation to it was 'odds of their survival are 1,000,000 to 1. They survived'. That's it. I'll put that aside for now. The movie also felt like it was missing a solid plot, but maybe that is what Zombie was going for. The last thing that kind of annoyed me about this movie was 2 scenes. I won't spoil them, but it has almost exactly the same feel as the Hotel scene and the strip club scene in TDR. Overall, it had so much potential and could have been a great movie, but it just failed to hit that level. Worth the 2 hours and $15, but The Devils Rejects will still be Zombies best work in my opinion.
The I-Land (2019)
Nope
This is Netflix trying to do their version of LOST. But sadly it doesn't come anywhere close (and ironically enough, this show tries to throw shade at LOST about 15 minutes in the first episode). The acting is bad, like VERY bad. If you want a good show, try something else.
The Boys (2019)
Epic
This show has it all. A great plot, gore, the occasional humor, and so much more. I started the first episode and finished the series in a day because it was able to keep my attention that well. This show is like if the Avengers moveis were in the dark DC universe, with a Jon Bernthal Punisher atmosphere and action. It is a great show and I get the feeling the second season is going to be just as great, after how the first ended....
Sinister (2012)
New review for an old movie
I watched this movie when it first came out, a few weeks ago, and probably 30 times between the two. For some reason this movie still fascinates me in a way not many others have been able to do. I love horror movies, and this one is in the top 5 on my list. It has the ability to capture your sense of fear on a level deeper than jump scares late at night. Ethan Hawke puts on a great performance that leaves you with chills every time you watch this. Highly recommend for horror fans.
Mother! (2017)
This movie.....
This movie is a roller coaster of emotion and mind games. Chances are if you only watch it once, you will hate it and leave you feeling confused in a "what did I just watch" kind of way. BUT, if you manage to think about it, and watch it more than once, you will understand it. This movie has such a deep meaning that can be looked at a thousand different ways. The cinematic experience is like one that I have never seen in any other movie. The visual effects, the story, the emotion, and just the overall feel of this movie is incredible regardless of whether someone likes the movie or not. Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem deliver a very unique experience with this movie, one that will leave you thinking for a while if you like to read in depth with subliminal meaning. If not, this movie probably isn't for you.
Annabelle Comes Home (2019)
Mixed feelings
Overall this was a good movie. But after all was said and done, it left me with the feeling that Warner Bros. was just using it to set themselves up for the next 15 years. This move could potentially introduce 5 or 6 franchise spin-offs, with completely new "villains". Now that is not a bad thing, because most of them looked pretty interesting, but in terms of the primary story line, it got a little overwhelming. It was an enjoyable movie that does a good job at being a horror movie without having to have a hundred different attempts at jump scares to make it creepy. If you enjoy the Conjuring universe movies, this one should be on your list.
