The Pump (1988)
A Man in the Desert lacks the faith to make the right decision
I first saw this film when I was about ten years old. It's a short that runs about ten minutes. The story was profound to a ten year old boy, but looking back it's a principle film: a parable. Simple but thought provoking, I still remember the film well. This short was produced by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) to show the importance of decision making and captures the principle of faith perfectly. The phrase "prime the pump" has been burned into my mind. The story is of a young driver who fails to heed the warnings of a map as he travels dangerously through the desert. The ghost town he ends up in acts as a sad scene of stupidity and pride. Shot beautifully it is perfect for a Sunday School lesson, or just wanting to enjoy a well made short. A great film...
