Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Wins, losses, closure, tears and joy
This movie is all that is expected and more.
Without saying more to spoil it, it brings the audiences through all the emotions above.
I would recommend you go watch it.
xXx: Return of Xander Cage (2017)
Vin Diesel needs some workout!
If you observe closely, he has turned flabby..
The camera tends to focus on him upper chest up. The only time they take a full body shot is when he is squeezed (yes, squeezed..) you can see the bulges sticking out) into a busy shaping costume.
These alone turned me off in the first few minutes..
Acting wise, he seemed to be taking this movie not too seriously. Perhaps he has already "made it" as an A-list actor?
Movie wise, there were some good fast paced action scenes but I must say dulled by a slightly obese action hero.
The Colony (2013)
Great start but goes flat quickly
The movie went with a good start. Developing the characters and the storyline. But somehow it all went downhill about halfway through. It would seem as if the director lost interest in making a movie. They never gave any reason for the cannibals, why they existed and who their leader was.. Just lots of snarling and teeth baring. Even the big fight scene to kill the cannibal leader was finished off quickly leaving me with a "huh?" The action and fight scenes were not very inspiring and quite predictable. The sudden predictability of whats to happen next dragged all the way to the end. After the end, I got the feel that the story ended very abruptly and everything was left hanging.. I must say Fishburne put in a good performance but lending his name did nothing to save this movie.
Man of Steel (2013)
Well played
This remake of Superman was well executed.
The whole movie is made like a puzzle and its pieces falling together as the movie progresses allowed the audience to connect to the character of Clark Kent. You will pretty much be able to figure out how he came about and to be, including how his values were set.
Only parts I find in need were the fight scenes and the baddie scenes, while action packed, lacked impact making them easily forgettable. The role of the General Zod and his team did not leave much of a mark and I pictured it as an excuse to give some action to the movie which otherwise would be a lesson in history on Supermans existence.
However this does not take away from the storyline of how Superman was created and that was done well..
Phantom (2013)
Watchable
The movie come with many named actors. The movie had a good storyline and was played out well. However, no famous names nor acting can make up for weak directorship.
I had the feeling the movie was slapped together quickly making it quite predictable. You pretty much would have known by the 20th minute who the baddies were and how it will turn out.
My biggest gripe about the acting was the role of Bruni and his overly calm manner..or perhaps too calm as if he could not care less how the whole mission turned out.
And whats this with American-accented Russians?? Someone forgot to tell the actors that they were supposed to be Russians?
I would rate this as another watch and forget movie..
After Earth (2013)
This show needs more
This movie was mildly entertaining at best. The storyline was pretty weak and basically put.. a boy running to seek help while arguing and taking orders from his injured father. I left the theatre with the feeling of "was that it?"
The sparse CGI scenes were good but I sensed that they were over-played to make up for the young Smiths lacking in acting capability. Senior Smith did a good job in what ever scenes he did.
I did expect more from a Will Smith movie to be honest. I do however commend senior Smith putting up and lending his name for junior Smith.. However, the focus was undeniably on junior Smith and probably to give him a leg up into Hollywood big screen and his weak performance coupled with the weak storyline pretty much damaged the movie.
