A Night in the Woods (2011)
Don't be fooled by the cover and trailer
I saw the trailer for this a while ago and it looked really cool. It took a while to get the film because you cant get it in Australia but finally I got it and watched it with a friend who also loves horror movies. However this was really disappointed.
The trailer and cover looked really good but the movie was slow, boring, pointless, not scary and only had the final scene which had some form of action appear from that the characters did nothing but talk and sit around a camp fire.
Very disappointing film, don't bother wasn't good at all
The acting was also not very good
The twist at the end however was alright I guess but it could have been so much better if they added some more scares and a better twist at the end
V/H/S/2 (2013)
Better than the first but still nothing amazing
I saw the first VHS not that long ago and I thought it was just so bad. The story lines for each of the clips were really bad and not scary at all. I wasn't gonna bother watching the film because of my experience with the first but after reading the reviews on this page I thought I would give it another chance
I have to say this was much better but it still wasn't that amazing.
The first clip was pretty cool, with the guy seeing ghosts and whatnot. The sex scene didn't make scenes? Why would the ghosts go away if they have sex?? Do they not like sex??? Am I missing something here??? But apart from the sex and stupidity this did have some good scares.
The second was more funny than scary. The ending of it with the kids in the picnic was just hilarious. I think the film would have been better if the zombies had a rage thing going, similar to 28 weeks later. If they moved faster then we could see the zombies running really fast towards its pray which would have been a bit more scary than a slowly moving zombie which I can easily walk away from
I was a bit disappointed with the third clip because everyone said it was so amazing, but I feel it was just way over hyped. The first 10 mins of it is just them talking to the leader Guy and then after that I was getting excited to see how scary it would be, but I could make a better movie with better ideas. It was just everyone killing themselves. What's so amazing about that???? The ending of this clip was really pathetic too as the demon thing was just so stupid and I have no idea why we had to see the main guy slobber wall over the camera at the end.
The fourth and final clip was based on aliens which wasn't that great. The aliens didn't really do much they just kinda moved really slowly, I didn't see why the people would just run away. I'm pretty sure they would have been much faster.
Overall the film did have some good scares which is the whole reason why I wanted to see the movie but overall the story lines were a bit of a let down
Sinister (2012)
Great modern horror film
I haven't done a review for a movie on IMDb before but I really felt like I should with this film just because it was so amazingly scary. I saw it last night with some friends. Sadly Sinister never came to Australia via cinema but on the TV it was still really scary. The opening scene for me although not much happened was just so disturbing and messed up. Watching though people slowly lift up from the ground to be hung is just such a strong point in the film. I found all the tapes that Ethan watched were really messed up. All the deaths were really disturbing but you couldn't stop watching them. This film had such a great. Story and used amazing techniques through camera angles and sound to show this story.
Spoiler alert I would love to give it 10 out of 10 but I really think that it could have gone a little but further with a few more jump scares and the final death could have been a bit more disturbing or at least shown. End of spoiler
But overall this was truly a great horror film. It's up there with my other scariest films list.
