Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)
A Tribute
This film was much more than I could have hoped for in light of Chadwick Bozeman's passing. The feeling of grief is present throughout and it's a clear the cast worked truly hard on their character representations thru the film
The story was a little jumbled at times in relation to Namor and his people however the origin story was actually better than I could have hoped.
The main point I took away from this continuation was that there does not have to be one set way to see these stories told. Ryan Coogler proved again that he has what it takes to tell compelling stories in the face of wild expectation.
Three Thousand Years of Longing (2022)
Why did it end this way
The story was really good in the beginning. The narration by both Tilda's & Idris' characters were great in the beginning. But it all goes sweat with her first wish and it's downhill from there. The sentiment was lost in the telling and felt rushed and disjointed from that point onward.
Brilliant visual effects and transitions during the storytelling are what saved the movie from an even lower rating. I thought the final scene while touching was not truly fulfilling to the story this was originally set up to be, especially in the trailers.
I think if the ending - starting with the wishes - were different then I would probably like it better. 2 wishes of the 3 are wasted and the 3rd gives me Aladdin vibes.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)
Way To Bring It All Together!
Honestly was hopeful and skeptical in equal parts when I heard this was actually happening. Especially with the failed reboot.
They went back to the heart of the story we loved in the first movie!
Normally I'm anti kids when it comes to these types of movies because they literally get in the way and on my nerves. But for once the kids were alright. The story editing was really well done. If you're a fan of the originals you're going to like this one.
Sweet Girl (2021)
Pretty solid movie
This movie was better than people give it credit. The twists and turns of the story keep you hooked in, and I even liked the ending. I think Jason Momoa played the avenging father figure as expected and Isabela Merced was likable at times but I felt out of touch with the character at the start of the movie. It wasn't till nearing the end that her character really pulls you back in to care about her as a person and not just tagging along for the ride. The movie was all in all good, I'd watch again for sure.
Warrior Nun (2020)
Fast Fed thru the inner narration to see the good
The reviews about teenage angst and narrative monologues is true. The beauty of Netflix is that you can ffw thru to the better parts. Also it gets progressively better and more interesting as the story develops and unfolds. I give Season 1 a solid 7 as it certainly peaked my interest. The women are just complex enough to stick around for, while the men are... well you'll see. No spoilers just definitely watch with your finger on the forward button the first 3 episodes for some scenes you'll be glad you did.
Pose (2018)
POSE is the show you never knew you needed
This show is amazing. The story telling gets you right down to your soul. The setting is nostalgic of the 80s & 90s culture that was left out of John Hughes movies growing up. Seeing Black and Latinx trans and gay stories are not just a trend, they are real, and equally valuable to see and hear. The joy and the pain. It's beautiful. Keep a box of tissues nearby, may cause spontaneous boughts of tears.
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998)
Best Flipping Movie out there!!!
I have watched this movie at least 2 dozen times, and every time I see it, it just keeps getting better!!! All the characters have depth, and you cant help but find Brit humor funny in this one! Jason Statham & Jason Flemying are top notch, hard to believe these two were just getting started in the industry! I recommend this to everyone that can appreciate a good laugh at Brit humor. From the poker game, to the robbery, to the shoot out that follows, everything was great. The best part is when girl appears our of practically thin air with the Brain gun in hand... you'll have to see it to know what I'm talking about. Second to that, the part about the traffic warden is another good running gag.
My Super Ex-Girlfriend (2006)
Nothing wrong with being a little neurotic... as long as you don't have super powers too
I saw this movie opening night on my birthday, and it was awesome!!!!! I think this is definitely a great 'first date' kind of movie, and even a 'hanging with the girls/guys' kinda film. Uma is always hot in her films, and Owen is true to form. The big surprise was Eddie Izzard!!! straight out of left field! There was a little bit of back-story going on between him and Uma's character, Jenny. And Anna Farris was really good too, her signature 'scary movie' face is priceless at quite a few moments in this movie. The only thing I think the movie should have toned down on was the a-hole best friend, played by Rainn Wilson. I'm sorry, but he was more annoying than funny, and it made me want to scream. And last but most certainly not least, Wanda Sykes, funny as always, but I think she could have had a better part, it was too contrite for her acting skills. Overall, I give this movie a definite 2-snaps up (mmhmm, I hear ya homegirl)
