Fantastic Four (I) (2005)
8/10
Not Spiderman, but not bad.
9 July 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Right off, this movie wasn't as good as Marvel's Spiderman movies. It was interesting to me, but I come from a Fantastic Four-loving background. I don't think someone less interested in comics could get into Fantastic Four movie the way non-comic readers could be engrossed in the first Spiderman movie.

One of the main problems with the Fantastic Four was the plot wore a little thin. It was almost like they only had enough plot for 45 minutes of movie and tried to stretch it with scenes of the Human Torch (Chris Evans) doing stunts and Ben Grimm (Michael Chiklis) breaking glasses.

But, on the positive side, this movie had many good points. Stan Lee had a speaking role, the scene with the Four on the bridge was impressively executed, and Ben Grimm and the Human Torch had a very good (and very funny) rivalry, as they should. Actually, most of the scenes with Ben Grimm were very well done. Michael Chiklis is quite an actor. If only certain other acting persons in the film could have done as well as he had, I could have given it a higher review.

However, despite its faults, I did enjoy the movie. In fact, the closing scenes with the team pulling together to defeat Doom were beautiful in a way. I think that scene would win back the casual fan that lost interest. But maybe I'm off base with my remarks. You tell me if it's good.

Hysterically Brilliant
29 March 2005
Hysterically Brilliant, to me anyway. It is in the same vein as the 60's Batman show/movie and Super Friends, but there was possibly less money put towards effects. If you ever wanted to see Sinestro in drag, Solomon Grundy in "disguise", Hawkman not flying or speaking, Adam West staring at Black Canary's butt, and Huntress adding nothing constructive to the plot, this show is for you. Get some popcorn, but no milk in case you laugh at the unintentional funny. But if you like well-made movies with complex interesting plot lines and fine acting, you might want to buy Citizen Kane or something because you won't enjoy this.

The Pacifier (2005)
You won't be too tortured
6 March 2005
If you liked Kindergarten Cop, there's a good chance you'll like this film. It's in a similar vein, the plot of the hardened male (Vin Deisel) forced to deal with multiple children. But this movie could've been better. I thought a lot of the action scenes seemed forced and a little on the ridiculous side. I love ninjas, but they just weren't well-played. But the side-plots involving the children's school were mostly entertaining, Morgan York (Lulu) stole the show, and Brad Garret (Vice Principal Murney) was hysterical. Scott Thompson (the Director) was also quite funny, but I would've liked to see more of him. So though I found the action portions disappointing, your kids would probably like the movie and you won't be too tortured.
