Mean Girls 2 (2011)
That is so NOT fetch!
Terrible film that smears itself on the greatness that is the original mean girls. Complete waste of time, feels like a chore to sit through and if you somehow manage to make it to the end, you won't remember it anyway.
Carrie (2013)
Not good, not bad. But definitely pointless
Perhaps the director Kimberly Peirce wanted to create something unique and important in her "reimagining" of the Stephen King classic by the same name. Perhaps is the key word, as we'll probably never know for sure. From the first teaser trailer to the final end product, one can be forgiven for thinking something changed along the way in terms of the direction and production of Carrie (2013). Perhaps the studio demanded the film be cut down more to resemble the original 1976 film. If that's not the case than this "reimagining" by Kimberly Peirce is nothing more than a standard cash grab remake with no inspiration or aspiration. The film feels like such a shot for shot remake that they even had to give screenwriter credit to Lawrence D. Cohen who wrote the script for the 1976 original film. The casting is... questionable at times. The ordinary students look like they have their own modeling agents. Chloë Grace Moretz, who definitely tries to bring a more raw interpretation of the character can't seem to truly capture our sympathy or believability as Sissy Spacek's version did. Chloë is simply too attractive to be Carrie, no matter how many odd mannerisms or traits she gives the character. The film does have some good qualities however, Julianne Moore is one of the few saving graces in this film. Her portrayal of the religious fanatic mother Margaret White is just insane and distinct enough to be warranting an applause. The cinematography is just gorgeous and the inevitable revenge that Carrie takes on her abusers in the final act is allot more spectacular in this rendition of the story. But what this version lacks is heart. Being a remake it's already unoriginal, being an almost shot for shot remake makes it even less original. The film definitely feels choppy. Again, wether that's Kimberly Peirce's fault or the studio is still unknown. Regardless. Carrie (2013) is just another run of the mill horror remake that in the end, was simply not necessary.
