Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023)

Hmmmm

Well what to you know, Transformers rise of the Beasts turned out to be the best film of the entire franchise to date. I've been watching these films since the first movie came out and it's probably the first film to not bore me in the least. The other Transformers movies always was trying to hard to tell a story. While the writing / script is nothing to write home about the natural progression of the action sequences led to a well thought out and memorable story-line. Of course the best part of our mechanical friends were the new additions , in animal form, which was really well done. Definitely a 7-8 out of 10 stars. Spoiler - non spoiler, the end credit scene is amazing and completely a shocking surprise leading the story-line into another franchise. Bravo.

Unseen (I) (2023)

Would have been good with just one story-line

Would have been good with just one story-line but this movie is made even better with the absolute Bat nuts crazy second story-line they decided to throw in there.

Made even better by the split second scene at the very end of the film (right before the credits) that made it the cherry on top of a very bizarre Action drama. No spoilers but look for the business card at the end and pay attention to what it says on it - both sides.

The characters in the first story-line are your average characters that you would expect in any ol' movie and it's done well. A little over the top for the male lead but good. Now the second set of characters are a hoot I tells ya. An absolute over the top performance by everyone involved and it's weirdly wonderful..

If you want a movie that's your normal affair then probably not for you but if you like the weird than this will please.

Was going to give it a 7 but that end scene bumped it up to a 7.5 - 7.8.

Velma (2023– )

Decades long fan here.

Here's the thing. Scooby seems to have many different worlds. Remember Scrappy Doo and Scooby Dum and remember how they had many episodes with each of them and then they sorta just disappeared. Think of this like that.

As far as I can figure, Velma is Not meant to replace the gang as we know it. If this is the case then Velma is a pretty rootin tootin good iteration for the Adult that grew up with the meddling kids.

And this is Adult.------- Sex, drugs and rock n roll if you will, with nudity , cursing, blood, adult humor, actual death and more. This is Not the usual wholesome gang we are use too. This is very much a modern day in your face type of series.

Aaaaaand now comes the dirty little reason no one likes it. Velma is Indian, Dafney is Chinese, Shaggy is Black, Fred is the white privileged dumb guy and where in the World is SCOOB??

Now as a decades long Scoob fan -- watch it !!!!! You are grown up now. This is what you wanted even if you didn't know you wanted it. This is adult Scooby Doo ..... This is and must be the natural progression for Scoob fans who are adults now.

But, Only if this is a limited and contained series like Scrappy and Scooby Dum and The gang always needs to be like they were in the 60's for their main movies and series . But I'm not mad at this multi-cultural addition and look forward to more of Velma. But with Scooby Doo.. 6 shows in and not an appearance.----That must change!!!

All in all a surprising, refreshing, raunchy version of my favorite gang 6.5- 7 out of 10 stars.

Bull (2021)

A nice revenge film but...

I don't think everyone if anyone understood the ending. Spoilers definitely ahead.

I like a lot of people thought his family died in that caravan. Which of course would bring the inevitable revenge plot. That's not the case. His family very much lives. But here is what most people don't get ---HE DIED --- Dead as a door-nail. Remember the first scene of the movie? Three guys rotating and tilling the soil above a smouldering flame in a picturesque field. That's good ole BULL being roasted under the ground. That is also why Bull returns to that very field during the last scene of the movie. Now shame on the powers that be for making this fact so illusive. The couple of scenes that tipped me off involved Bull's eyes ---They are black and he makes some of his victims take note of that. Not worth watching again for me but worth mulling over what I have laid out for you.

Mortal (2020)

Ohhhhhhh, he is a Vennnnnnnngeful God

And it is wonderful. Great to see them take a chance making this type of movie considering the big blockbusters as of late. If you go into this with fresh eyes (forget Marvel) it so works. 9 out of 10 and I'll probably see again. Which would make it the third time. They must make a sequel to this which they pretty much had in mind considering the end.

The film begins with Erik getting arrested for a bizarre murder that can not quite be explained so a psychiatrist is briefly brought in to try and get to the bottom of it. However, soon enough the strange occurrences can not be explained under conventional means.

Ben Bailey: Road Rage (2011 TV Special)

Not as funny as the audience gave him credit for

Wow, coming late to this . Amazon had it listed as a new special. Never saw cash cab and this was my 1st experience w him. Now, over the last year I've seen more than 100 specials. A few GOAT's in there too. Not one of them got as much applause breaks and laughter. Made no sense, I mean he was funny, he remembered his bit but something's up. Like I said, people like chappelle, spade, izzard che, foxworthy etc... didn't get as much applause and laughter than this nobody and it makes no sense 5.1-5.7 out of 10----everybody Drunk??

Firestarter (2022)

Didn't want to review this film- But....

It ain't that bad. Pretty good actually. I can guarantee you the bad reviews are originating from the animal scene. It's a bad one and I can see how it would give so many visceral 1 and 2 and 3 star reactions. I watch a movie every night and this film holds up throughout. My only disappointment was there could have been one final massively destructive firestorm of some sorts ---which did not happen. Other than that I liked this film. AND YES, I saw the original, when it came out as a kid ---LOVED that movie as a kid. Really liked this one as an adult and I hope they make a sequel very soon for this movie absolutely calls for it. Only suggestion is to ramp up the destruction 2-3 fold.

Clifford the Big Red Dog (2021)

Don't mess with Harlem NY's Big Red Pooch

Animal control has taken Clifford's Mom and puppy siblings from an abandoned warehouse while Clifford was playing under a tarp. Meanwhile the pooch's eventual owner (Emily) is living her life trying to fit in and not be bullied at school. Emily's Mother is called away on business and must leave her daughter with her irresponsible Brother. During a trip to school is where Emily and Clifford meet and with the help of a magical animal "carer" the story begins. Lots of Comedic actors you will be familiar with and all funny. Plus, it's a heart-warming story till the end. Which is good too. 5.8-6.2 stars out of 10.

The Humans (2021)

Hmmmm, not sure what their playing at.

An extended family meet for thanksgiving at the grand-daughters newly moved into apartment and the natural course of conversation during such a meal / day takes center stage in this film. A secret is revealed . There's a lot of talking and that's it. The conversations were not that interesting and the. "mysterious things" are non-existent. Everything mysterious could be chalked up to apartment living. So in the end nothing was delivered and nothing really to take away from it. Acting was great but that's not enough. 4.9-5.1 stars out of 10.

Black Friday (III) (2021)

Well, that's sort of a unique ending.

A group of employees for a local big chain store are tasked with the black Friday shift starting at 12 a.m. Thanksgiving night. Unfortunately for them a D. N. A. Restructuring organism has hitched a ride on a meteorite and struck their store changing everyone it comes in contact with. Can the uninfected employees survive this ordeal? Bruce Campbell is a delight and is prominent throughout. Could have been funnier but was amusing enough. Acting was fine. Gore was good. 6.1-6.4 stars out of 10.

Doctor Who: Flux: Chapter Four - Village of the Angels (2021) Season 13, Episode 4

Over the top and worth every second of it

This episode is number 4 in a series of 6 "flux" episodes in which time itself is causing chaos throughout the entire Universe and the Doctor herself. Can the good Doctor find out what or who is responsible? I love this mini-series, much more than any in the past. Pretty much every "baddie" of known repute appears in the time episodic tale of flux. This whole mini-series gets a 9 out of 10 stars (ep. 1-4)I'm assuming 5 & 6 will be even better.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)

Why did they make a kids Ghostbusters???

We follow a mom and her children as they are evicted from their house and the only place they can go is the farm of the moms recently deceased father who just so happens to be one of the original Ghostbusters. The magic is not there. If you compare adults who are claiming ghosts to kids claiming ghosts ----You already lost the "Magic" the original film had. Then you take us out of the entire environment of the original ---from big city N. Y. to a no nothing town where everyone knows your name. The female version that came out a few years ago is a better movie than this. Can't stress enough how they had no "plan" for the story so they stole A LOT from the original film. Man,did you guys screw up -shame all around. And it just got more repetitive and dumber as it goes on. Why?????? Just why? See the Maya Rudoph one again, you''ll be happier for doing so. (and I was pissed off when that came out --turns out it's better than this) How can Aykroyd and Murray sign off on this, they are certifiably insane in real life (which is a good thing) and this is a boring kids ghostbusters flick. 5 out of 10 stars. I guess if your a kid you'll like this but if you've seen the original in theaters then nope - sorry. Not interesting except for the relentless and tiring call backs to the original movie.

A Serbian Film (2010)

Don,t watch.

Simple as that. No reason too except for shock value. And, you won't be the same afterwards. Not in a good way. There are things you ca not un-see (or infer) No stars. No cinematic value. Then again, I guess if you're a sick psychopath, a 10 would be warranted. Movie follows a guy doing every sick perverted sexual thing out there --I mean every -- you've been warned.

Night Night (2021)

Twisty turny type film

A woman gets into an accident and is haunted by the consequences of it. During the aftermath of the accident her boyfriend helps with the recovery while her brother is off abroad partying in clubs. With each day that passes more and more mysterious events occur in her life. Who could be responsible for this, if anyone. Break-out stars --Matty Cardarople and. Deric Augustine for their acting. It's good but I'm pretty sure they messed up the timeline (which is a no-no) Still worth watching I. M. O 5.5 out of 10 stars.

Don't Say Its Name (2021)

An interesting look into tribal land folklore.

In this film we follow an indigenous peoples on tribal land as they try to figure out who or what has been killing family and friends in a mysterious way. This movie is definitely trying to tell a message as well . Which is welcomed but not done in very subtle ways. Acting is decent except for one white dude who plays the obvious racist -- that could have been done better too. Glad to see a "Native" American a.k.a Indigenous peoples film. Enjoyable but could have changed some things around. 5.5 out of 10 stars.

The Legend of Jack and Jill (2021)

Quite laughable

Hmmmmm, why the choice of cro-magnum man?? Anyway, a bunch of people go missing in one particular forest and we are taken on a journey with one of the missing family in search of said missing. Problem is the acting is a tad annoying and Jack and Jill --who were normal well speaking children turn into grunting cro-magnum creatures solely because they started living in the forest --What??? I mean I guess just for that laugh it's sorta worth watching but nahhhh. Just don't bother, the story stinks, acting bad and boring. So, it gets a 4.4-4.5 stars out of 10.

Victor Crowley (2017)

You actually should see this and enjoy. It's a treat

I think this is the first B-movie that I actually liked. I think it's the cadence of the film and the actors are not the best but they do their thing. The characters are "characters" if you will and good ones at that. Plus, they all seem to look like more famous actors. Pretty funny throughout as we follow the lone survivor of a massacre 10 years ago, only problem is everyone in the World thinks he's the killer.. Now he's offered a lucrative deal only if he makes a visit back to the spot he survived all those years ago. Didn't think I'd like it, just thought it would be okay but it's a "ludicrously" decent movie. It actually gets a 7 out of 10 stars for its comedic pace and B-movie weirdness. This just works, it shouldn't but it does.

Red Notice (2021)

"I'm Ed Sheeran B!tch!!!!"

Another big blockbuster flick with the usual performances you expect from the lead actors . Fun, entertaining and at times amusing. The movie works its way around each character in a search for which is lying. As a mindless view (not looking for mistake) it probably gets a 9 --it's fun and you'll enjoy it. If you want to knit pick then 6.6-7.1 out of 10 stars --a little drawn out in places but still fun and you'll enjoy it.

Haunted Trail (2021)

Keeps true to the - do really stupid stuff and you'll get killed genre

There definitely could ave been more to the story. That said, there should have been less to it. There really wasn't a story-line, just a group of friends go to a haunted house type event. They already had a jason,mike myers, freddie type of character and then they had to add a story and change things up. Would have been a decent 6.3 if they kept it simple but instead gets a 5.1. It's amusing and fast paced but could have been funny and pleasantly paced.

Why Don't You Just Die! (2018)

What a lovely loving Russian family

Sheesh, this is decidedly a very Russian film which I really didn't know they made. Different countries like different endings and this was a treat. Usually you don't expect that to happen. A woman coerces her boyfriend to kill someone who has allegedly abused her as a child. Bloody well engaging from the very start. 5.9-6.3 stars out of 10.

The ParaPod: A Very British Ghost Hunt (2020)

These "documentarians" are trying to "punk" us

Only way I can describe this is 2 guys -- one who has never thought if a ghost ever existed or not and the other guy is someone who has never thought if a ghost ever existed or not -ever. I would say they were just given a script the day of filming but even that would mean they have never seen a ghost hunting program or a paranormal program or any of the found footage films.. I LOVE this genre and if the movie presented itself as a regular crappy b movie movie I would have given it a 4.2-5 just for the "laughs".(B-movie laughs, there are no regular laughs) It seems like the two main characters are friends in real life and last month they just heard that people believe in this phenomenon called ghosts and then they said to themselves 3 weeks ago - Hey, let's make a movie about ghosts. This gets no stars . That's 0.0 stars out of 10.

Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight (2020)

A heart-warming story about Brotherhood

This is actually a pretty decent b movie campy horror flick. Made even better with its English dubbing and subtitles which are both decent as well. It seems like "real"English was utilized. It's Gorey and it has an okay story as we follow a bunch of teen campers as they try not to get killed by an unfortunate family. Something to do with space is also involved in this movie. Look and feel of the movie is pleasing. A b movie that I'm not angry I watched. 6 out of 10 stars.

Finch (2021)

"I can't even remember a dog named Jeff"

Just about the perfect movie. A man his dog and a couple of AI Robots have to up-end their lives during the end of the world because of circumstances beyond their control. Don't worry, what everyone is afraid is gonna happen doesn't happen and it adds to the story even more so. Tom Hanks is wonderful and so is this film, The one to see out of all the others. 8.7-9.2 out of 10.

Eternals (2021)

Look forward to future iterations with a more Metropolitan experience

A good story and a good set up for future films. Not great mind you. There were no emotions linked to the viewing and probably 30 minutes too long. Nothing noteworthy in terms of the acting but it was a fun ride. Movie shows us the origin story of the Eternals and follows them as monsters start attacking on Earth. Can the Eternals figure out what's going on?

6.6 -6.9 out of 10.

Last Night in Soho (2021)

Sheeeesh family, huh!?!?

A woman - the third in a generation of one particular family decided she will walk in the footsteps of her mother by traveling to the big city in which she died. However this woman has a particular connection to her mom in that she can still see her and experience everything that has happened to her mom up until the time of her death. Then becomes haunted by the ghosts of past but is it all in her mind? Good performances all around. Fast paced and interesting and a killer soundtrack and of course it has Doctor Who in it. 6.2.
