What A Bore
19 April 2024
Despite adequate acting by Jennifer Winglet, the script and storyline is so boring dragging on and on that you loose all interest in continuing to watch. The script and storyline must have pace with sensible incidents to keep the interest. The other girl was free with natural acting. But when the script is weak nothing much can can make their interesting. Is it a legal drama or drab love story? The end is obvious. That too old cliché type which can be anyone's guess. A wastage of acting talents. Time to gear up the drama otherwise ratings would fall weekly. Often I wonder how they get producers to invest on such lousy scripts.

Clean well made thriller
9 April 2024
When Bengali movies have reached its lowest edge, it is refreshing to watch a well made clean thriller in Platform 8. A low budget fast movie with adequate suspicion it keeps you glued to the screen till the very end. With several twists and turns it keeps you guessing till the very end. A script well away from the cliché serial lines adds freshness to the movie. Natural acting by all especially the lead Ishani Sengupta and Shreya Bhattacharya both relatively fresh faces rejuvenate your spirits taking you away from the usual crap boredom which Bengali movies serve on a platter with media backing. Please see the movie.

Rubbish
18 August 2023
Rubbish in the name of cinema. Haphazard story, abusive language, poor direction. Though actors are well known they have been presented in comical unrealistic way. The standard of Bengali movies have drastically deteriorated. Above all a good storyline is missing. Except for Saswata Chatterjee none have been given scope of acting. Overall it reflects the cultural degradation of Bengal. Photography and music is not up to any standard. The director should concentrate on other activities than making craps like this. If they refrain from making movies chances of better movies can see the light. Don't see the rubbish.

Misfired Rubbish
7 June 2023
If you desire to keep your brain in closet you are most welcome to watch this web series. Things happen without reason, logic is hayward. Bengali web series cannot come out of the clutches of crap serials. Meant for those who cannot watch any other web series in OTT Platform. It is high time Bengali web series grows up..Otherwise this platform will soon close Acting of Koneenica Banerjee is tolerable. The other characters try to make an unbelievable story believable much to their difficulty.

Gone are the days when Bengali directors could handle a complex plot. No wonder West Bengal web series are falling behind Bangladeshi ones.

Well made well acted Bengali web series
16 August 2022
After a long time saw a well-acted gripping thriller. Bengali web series are notorious for craps. This was a breath of fresh air. Acting of Ananya Chatterjee and Anjan Dutt was par excellence. Please see it.

Dowry Pension for Arjun Rampal
28 April 2022
Second marriage Arjun Rampal needs money for family upkeep. So he is forced to take such lousy scripts. The more the scene proceeds the worse it becomes.

Incredible Hyphe Takes Away Credibility
11 February 2022
When you see a bunch of reviews all marking it as 10, you feel like giving it a 18 to add to the incredibility. People don't realise giving false rating does not increase the credibility, rather takes it away.

The storyline is cliche but reasonably well presented. Definitely not a thriller. Rather analysis of romantic fantasy. All actors have acted well.

Watchable
11 January 2022
Watchable comedy. Don't expect suspense. Unrealistic story like most other Bengali craps. Didn't understand the role of Ishaa Saha in the series. Watch if you don't have anything else to watch.

Better than usual Bengali Craps
13 December 2021
Better than usual Bengali craps. Ishaa Saha was the best followed by Srikanta Acharya. Dev did what he was given within limited script. If you are pissed off with Bengali movies you can watch it for a change.

Two Hours of Overhyped Crap
4 December 2021
When success of Kahani gets to your head and you lack creativity, you try to cash on past success with a nonsense script. If this is a thriller, you have to redefine thriller.

Did Not Understand
6 November 2021
Honestly speaking, I didn't understand this movie though photography is good. Use your discretion. Must be some sort of abstract art movie. But a relief from caricature of most of Indian movies.

Enjoy the movie keeping your brains elsewhere
24 October 2021
To enjoy this so called 'thriller' your rationale must be elsewhere, be it with cannabis india or under influence of adequate dose of alcohol. The movie was progressing like a typical Bengali movie with good acting by Koel Mallick for an hour until they attempted to incorporate some thriller element. That is the time you have to recheck your rationale to see if it has switched off by narcotics. Under its influence you can enjoy the goof.

Crap - Typical Bengali 'Thriller'
24 September 2021
When you don't know to make thrillers why venture to make one? Which producer is rich enough to produce such craps to expect returns with hyped IMDB ratings? I wonder. I have written several thrillers both in Bengali & English. Never I had the lunacy to write such cliché craps. Less said about making of the movie. No wonder Bengali movies are heading towards annihilation. Finally, there is no suspense in the movie.

Bengali Thriller with confused logic
14 July 2021
I must confess with the amount of crap churned out in Bengali in recent times, this is much better. With non-serial typed dialogues and relatively good direction it is way above the commercial nonsense. Good acting by Srabonti & Soham Chatterjee it is definitely worth watching. As an author of several bestselling thrillers, it leaves me with a question. Where did the story start? Where did it end? Was there a continuity of the theme? Needless to say logic is often wayward.

A crap movie by a confident director
11 July 2021
When producer has enough money to waste he gets a confident director who believes he can sell any nonsense to the imbessile Bengali populace. He gets hold of a demented scriptwriter. He thinks Bengali crowd would easily digest the crap. Or at least the producer thinks. Hooks on few standard actors. Though Saswata Chatterjee and Sayoni Ghosh try to do justice to the script as they have been paid, Rudranil Ghosh with his over acting messes everything.

Bengali Suspense Where Logic is a Nightmare
21 June 2021
Unless you are really fond of Bengali web series refrain from watching this web series. A crime drama must have some logic and be realistic. Here both are missing. 6 deaths are attended by a police officer without the presence of any doctor. The mode of murders don't fit any logic. Above all the dialogues are so monotonous. It is written by a script writer who lacks the ability of storytelling and follows the cliché pattern of senseless dialogues as in most Bengali serials.

Chitrakar - An Aesthetic Masterpiece
14 June 2021
When you have almost given up expectancy from Bengali movies and left it to rest in peace at the 21st Century Bengali cultural crematorium, an aesthetic masterpiece like Chitrakar by Saibal Mitra wakes you up. I had the fortune of seeing this movie at a British net platform last week. The first question that comes to mind is why didn't this unique work (2016) get a normal theatrical release? With the appalling present cultural milieu of Bengal, the answer is obvious. Only those close to the ruling party or licking their boots hold the helm of culture. An independent filmmaker stands nowhere even with his quality work. Excellence is the greatest enemy of those sub-mediocrities that control the Bengali cultural scenario.

The story is about a blind artist Bijon Bose excellently portrayed by Dhritiman Chatterji. His vivid portrayal of the artist's conflict between art and commerce brings out the conflict of all creative people of this era. Which is prime? Quality of creation or its marketability? Personally, being an author, I had been in this dilemma. Finally, I opted for creativity foregoing the temporary lure of money and fame.

Bijon Bose had been hooked in by an art gallery owner (Debdut Ghosh) to draw a mural for an exclusive restaurant in Kolkata frequented by non-connoisseurs of art for which he was paid handsomely. A budding artist Tithi (Arpita Chatterjee) was sent to assist him with his work holding her works at ransom. Bijon Bose had spent substantial portion of his life inspiring students by bringing stories to life through his paintings and idealism. When he is confronted with this strong-minded young painter Tithi, he is thrown into a maelstrom to look inwards. His creative eye delves deeper than the performance of his eyesight. The relationship between Tithi and him unfolds during the creation of the mural. Tithi's realism plagues him as the duo progress with the creation. His inner eye struggles with his obligation towards artistic integrity and the revenue he is paid for this work.

Handling of this blind painter's role by Dhritiman Chatterji was par excellent. In addition to portraying the inner conflicts of the character, his detailing of the blind artist deserves accolade. Arpita Chatterjee has acted equally well beside the legendary actor. Arun Mukherjee, Debdut Ghosh and Subhrojit Dutta played their roles with equal conviction in the slot allotted to them. The music by Tejendra Narayan Mazumdar is commendable. The use of background score subtly enhances the aesthetics of the movie. Cinematography by Ashok Dasgupta and editing by Sumit Ghosh lives up to the standard.

The main credit goes to the director of the film Saibal Mitra. As he confessed before the premiere, his childhood at Santiniketan had been the essence of his philosophy of making this film. Art or commerce? Populism isn't always quality. As bestseller isn't the best book written, the quality of a creation can never be judged by its market value. I recall a conversation with the eminent film director Mrinal Sen. I asked him "Why do people invest on you despite your movies failing miserably at the box office?" He replied, "For the fame of international awards" Mrinal Sen, Rittwick Ghatak, Satyajit Ray might be gone but we have the next gen with equally quality works. Mrinal Sen might have been lucky to get producers, but directors like Saibal Mitra along with a few others are not always that lucky to procure a producer who understands the value of quality and ready to give priority to it over commerce.

Isn't it high time for some government initiative to help these directors to deliver their quality work? They mightn't always be a 'yes man'. Creativity is beyond the realm of appeasing. If that mindset ensues, can the Bengali culture flourish or else it would be dead, chanting the mantra of the past whilst the culture burns in the pyre.

Well presented low budget cliche storyline
16 April 2021
After a year of lockdown when you are into paucity of good movies, Raat Baaki Hai keeps you wake until the movie is finished. The story is nothing new - a cliche whodunit with an age-old motive. Despite the lack of originality, the script keeps you occupied till the end with its twists & turns. The movie unfolds at a steady pace and takes off any built-up suspense when you have reached 80% of it. Despite its age-old framework, it is a relief from the recent Bollywood flicks. Paoli Dam's acting was reserved as expected of her.

You can watch it.

A Total Bollywood Hotchpotch
12 April 2021
The script writer was totally confused as what to depict of Harshad Mehta's life. He picks up some incidents erratically losing the continuity and flow. To add to the catastrophe he wants to make a Bollywood movie filling it with unnecessary songs not fitting into a movie of this sort making a total disaster. If you want to watch one the same subject, watch the other series. Poor Ajay Devan, the producer.
