2036 Origin Unknown (2018)
Vagueness isn't a plot
Nothing is properly explained in this film. Don't expect answers to anything at the end, you won't get them.
Prey (2007)
Outdated
The whole concept of this film just felt really dated. Showing lions as crazed killers that will do anything (especially if it's intimidating) to wipe out an unfortunate family just to get a redneck kick out of it.
Far too late in the game, we've seen lions enough on television and know enough about them to know that's just not the kind of behaviour to expect from them.
All the shots of the lions weren't aggressive in the least either, just up close images of them pawing or passively jogging with stupid digital effects trying to demonise them) Jaws got away with it but that was 40 years ago.
Oh, and the idea of climbing up a tree to escape lions, was that a joke or not?! Usually I'd give this a 4 as a film that was watchable but that I'd not watch again. This time I've decided to demote it to a 2 as it quite annoyed me even though I put up with it
Ron White: They Call Me Tater Salad (2004)
King of the monkey people
The Neolithic grunts from the audience to welcome this guy on stage set the scene for the rest of the show perfectly.
The jokes are focused around the lowest common denominator. Comedy at it's absolute simplest, designed for people who are the absolute simplest. The guy basically points out the obvious with seemingly no intellect behind it.
I admit it could be because I'm used to British humour which has a tendency to be quite intelligent humour (I'm talking recent comedy, not Benny hill.)
Perhaps if my priorities in life were to get drunk, smoke and kill innocent defenceless animals I might enjoy it. In fact I fit 2 of those 3 criteria so probably not.
The Eavesdropper (2004)
Irritating to watch
The premise that a person could hear other peoples thoughts all the time would of course be distressing to the person involved, however, the way that it's implemented into this film is that you, the viewer, have to listen to the same constant babble of peoples thoughts while trying to work out what is being discussed in the current conversation.
Trying to listen to several different voices at once and trying to understand what they are all saying makes this film a very stressful one to watch. Ideally you'd just pay attention to the main conversation but they're at a volume that makes this just not possible.
To be honest, I didn't watch this film all the way through, I can't recommend it.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
Shockingly bad
An awful plot and terrible acting. Most of the film appears to be of a girl screaming while being chased by a man swinging a chainsaw around his head like a safari-park chimp.
Perhaps it could be argued that this film led the way for many teen slasher flicks that followed, however, most teen slasher films aren't actually all that good. (Considerably better than this tripe though)
I would suspect that this film was made by college students as a project, or to try and waste tape (probably the latter).
Too obvious for a thriller and too tame for a horror, if you're looking for scares look elsewhere.
