The Little Rascals (1994)
Spin Off of the Original 'Our Gang.'
Granted, more than half of the children were terrible actors. Most of them sounded coached and rehearsed, the movements were for the most part awkward and very unnatural, and some of them even looked into the camera throughout most of the movie. But that's what made it relatable to Us children of the '90s. It was definitely a spin off of the "Our Gang" serious from the Depression Era, however it was made to be modern with a few familiar twists. They were '90s Kids doing what Kids do! Just like the 'Our Gang' children were Kids doing Kid things from that era!Even though there were some copies from the original in the movie, it was all in good fun. Remember, it is a CHILDREN/family movie. I grew up watching both 'The Little Rascals' and 'Our Gang' and I don't think that the Little Rascals "disgraced" 'Our Gang' in any way whatsoever. Yes, there were similarities and some "copy catting," but so what? It is after all a Children's movie about Children doing things that Children like to do in their time frame. I didn't try to get too elaborate or lengthy with this because I'm simply defending the simplicity and innocence of the movie from old cranky grown ups & sell outs.
Rugrats (1991)
a babies gotta do, what babies gotta do.
The earlier half of the show was in a word, Amazing. I absolutely adored this show and literally watched it everyday! Phil & Lil were absolutely hilarious and incredibly gross, which was what every kid wanted to see in the '90s! Let's not forget that we used to play outside and I don't think there is a child who can honestly say they did Not pick their nose while they were still in diapers! It's just what small children do from time to time, as disgusting as that is. Chuckie was the most anxiety ridden toddler ever known to grace television; he was "The Big Bang Theory"'s "Sheldon" as a baby. You wanted to pick on him & stand up for him all at the same time. Angelica, well, Angelica was just the kid you wanted to kick in the teeth and let the mean babysitter deal with. But Tommy was the coolest baby that every kid wanted to be. He was brave, daring, and pretty cut-edge for a 'rugrat.' (pun very intended.) I can't forget Spike though, he was most children's dream dog! He played with the babies & saved their diapered tooshies from trouble a time or two. However, after Dill was born & characters voices changed, it was just not worth watching. Everything changed from the voices to the adventures. It became almost more about protecting & playing with Dill than it was about the original Rugrats. If they were to re-air this show, the Original half of the show, I would gladly let my daughter watch it as much as she pleased! Unfortunately, she will be growing up simply on old VHS tapes & some DVDs because I'm not filling her beautiful mind with the atrocious trash that is on Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, and Cartoon Network today.
CatDog (1998)
Missing CatDog
Having grown up in this generation, I truly miss the show. Yes, it had gross out humor and, now that I've grown up and watched it, it has plenty of references that I wouldn't have ever understood at that time. The Greasers were on air way, way, way too much! But, despite the crude jokes & gross out humor it did Occasionally have some good qualities that cartoons today just do not have. Like respect for others, respect for yourself, and how to be a Functioning part of society despite difference and prejudices. There may be some that disagree, and if so, then please go watch the nonsense of horrible television that is now Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and Disney Channel. Gumball, Adventure Time, etc., make CatDog look like the most decent cartoon known to the human species.
This Is the End (2013)
Not Unbearable, but Definitely Awful!
I absolutely loved Superbad & Pineapple Express! I love Seth Rogen & the entire cast, however this movie was absolutely terrible. It didn't offend me in the least, it was just not funny at all. Horrible "dialogue," terribly cliché, and extremely predictable. My husband & I couldn't even finish the movie. I love Seth Rogen and his other films, but this was just insanely awful! I wish I could blame it on being "offensive," but I can't, my opinion of this atrocious thing is solely based on the horrible movie itself. Now I see why my brother in law only commented on the amount of drugs, you would have to be on an insane amount of something to enjoy the film itself. Emma Watson was wonderful though! Too bad she got sucked into this waste.
