Ishq Brandy (2014)
Funny, entertaining but boring & old at the same time!
I think 'Ishq Brandy' is quite a fresh and funny entertainer. It is probably going to be enjoyed by the youth, though any aged people who enjoy Punjabi comedies will probably like it. Compared to other Punjabi comedies, such as Carry On Jatta, Lucky Di Unlucky Story or Bhaji In Problem, Ishq Brandy doesn't stand a chance if you look at it in either a comedy way or an entertainment way, as all three films beat Ishq Brandy.
Despite this, Ishq Brandy is still quite a decent film. It is funny at times, especially scenes with Binnu Dhillon, who is usually known for his comic-timing. Him, Karamjit Anmol and BN Sharma's comic-timing in this film are really good and hilarious in my opinion.
The film has an average story, with the first half being quite boring but the second half a little bit more interesting. Performances I'd say are a huge let-down. The film could've been much better with better actors, or just better performances from these actors. Only a few actors in the film stand out as good performers, whilst the rest just make you bored.
Most of the actors try too hard to act funny but ruin it for you at the same time. With the exception of Binnu Dhillon, Karamjit Anmol and BN Sharma, almost every actor in the film who tries to make you laugh, probably will not actually make you laugh.
Overall, it is a decent film with a below average story but shaped up quite decently. With let-down performances and a lot of boring sequences, the film isn't anything that you should watch and get excited about in my opinion, but if you're into Punjabi comedies, or just any comedy to make time-pass, then this one will probably be alright for you. 5/10.
Heropanti (2014)
After a boring first-half, the second-half surprises you!
'Heropanti' starts off well, then drops down extremely. The first 20 minutes, up until Tiger Shroff's entry (after his entry) the film goes quite downhill and then becomes a bit boring. As the film goes on, it gets more and more boring, until the first half finishes.
The film overall has a clichéd, old, many times used story, but has been changed around a little to make it more exciting, and in my opinion, has worked. The first-half as I mentioned before, is quite boring and will probably make you want to stop watching the film, but as soon as the second-half starts, the film goes back up and gets more and more exciting as it goes on.
Performances are decent, though the main highlight of the film in my opinion performance-wise, is Prakash Raj. He probably gives his best performance in Bollywood so far. After him, Tiger Shroff ranks as the best performance of the film I'd say.
On the whole, Heropanti is an exciting, fun & entertaining romance-action flick that you may enjoy, depending on what genre films you like. What lets down is the old & washed-out storyline in my opinion. Despite this, if you feel you may enjoy this film, watch if you want to.
Disco Singh (2014)
A treat for most Diljit fans!
'Disco Singh' is a treat for most Diljit Dosanjh fans in my opinion. Though the film overall isn't anything special, it is Diljit that makes it better than it is. Diljit is probably the main highlight of the film, as he makes you laugh almost every time he opens his mouth in the film.
Other actors deliver really good performances, especially Manoj Pahwa as the don, and Karamjit Anmol & B.N. Sharma as his sidekicks. They are hilarious. It has a decent story, but it is quite clichéd and old, something that you have probably heard before many times. The action is alright too.
On the whole, if you like Punjabi comedies, or just romantic-comedies in general, you will probably enjoy Disco Singh! It has action, romance, comedy & lots of entertainment!
The Xpose (2014)
Boring & wannabe thriller movie but entertaining!
'The Xpose' is an entertaining yet boring 'thriller', or as the makers only call it a thriller. Personally, the film I found very funny. Especially the scenes where Himesh's character is being filmed, and he acts like he's a very big superstar. The film's story is decent, not too bad and not great either, but it's quite clichéd and predictable.
After watching the trailer, you can take a few guesses on who you think is the murderer in the end, and one of those guesses is probably right, but I won't reveal the character and spoil it for you. The performances in the film are not as good as they should be in my opinion. Himesh is decent, probably better than his previous few films. Honey isn't bad, the debutant girls aren't that good and the supporting characters of people such as Anant Mahadevan, Rajesh Sharma and Dayashankar Pandey amongst others are alright.
Actor Irrfan Khan is hardly even in the film, yet he's featured in the film's poster for some reason. He narrates some of the film (most of the first half) and also appears shortly in the first half, but doesn't really change the state of the film.
The ending is extremely disappointing, and after a good second-half you'd think and expect an interesting climax, but it happens to be the most predictable thing possible I'd say. Not going to spoil the ending, I will not add any more, just the fact that if you enjoy suspenseful thrillers then you will probably NOT enjoy this film, as it tries hard to be in that genre but doesn't really work in my opinion.
Also, I'd like to add that though the first half is more comedy, the second half is quite serious, and the second is probably the only suspenseful thing in the film. If you're bored, and looking for an entertaining (yet a film with an ending that will leave you disappointed and angry for why you wasted your time watching the whole film) movie then watch 'The Xpose' at your own risk.
Bha Ji in Problem (2013)
Funny, entertaining & total fun!
'Bhaji in Problem' is just as hilarious as it comes out to be, and looks. From the director of some of the most funniest Punjabi films ever, including Carry On Jatta & Lucky Di Unlucky Story, this film too, as expected, is extremely funny. It has excellent performances from most of the cast, and also has an exciting story.
One of the problem's with the film however, is that the story is now a bit old and despite being quite different, resembles the director's earlier film Carry On Jatta so much that you can't stop thinking about that while watching this. Though both films are equally funny and entertaining in my opinion, Carry On Jatta strikes on Number One because it released earlier and despite the two sharing a similar story, is much stronger.
Anyways, if you're bored or with your family, and looking for a good time-pass or just a simple family-comedy to watch, this film is great for you! Especially for fans who enjoy Punjabi comedies, this one's a winner! 8/10!
