Partners in Crime (2015)
Top Hole ... sadly, no!
I tried to like this. I tried really hard. Jessica Raine I'm familiar with, and she made a good show of Tuppence. However, this Tuppence, unlike the Tuppence of the book, was suppressed, downtrodden and someone's idea in the 2000s of what a 1920s woman would be - they were sadly mistaken. I'm unfamiliar with David Williams, who played Tommy, but this Tommy was just awful - what was it with the bees? Why so single minded? It didn't make sense, it was nonsense! His attitude to his wife was worse. This Tommy had a faint disrespect of his wife, the Tommy of the books did not! Again, I think someone had no idea of the source material and zero familiarity with Miss Christie. It was, sad to say, pure drek.
Pressure Cooker (2023)
Cooking with Big Brother
The only kind of reality TV I tend to watch are the creative ones - I'm very partial to cooking shows, so when a new one is released, I have to watch it.
The premise of this appealed to me - eleven chefs in one house, and having to judge themselves, rather than having any kind of guest judge.
The reality, however, wasn't so appealing. This is just like Big Brother but with cooking instead of canoodling. But apparently the food is 'sexy', food should not be 'sexy'. It should be enticing, appealing, delicious, etc.
If you want to watch a group of talented chefs being judged fairly on their food, this is not for you. If you want to watch a group of talented chefs being judged on their friendships, rather than talent, then this is for you.
Glee: The Rise and Fall of Sue Sylvester (2015)
Sheer Brilliance
Glee has many a parody and this is the highlight of the many parodies. Sue being called out on her many lies is beautifully done. Fox News being called "fair and balanced" is almost as funny as Geraldo Rivera being presented as the pinnacle of 'honest TV interviews". Coach Beiste standing by Sue is a lovely counterpoint to the ever loyal Becky Jackson taking her down.
So, who is Sue Sylvester? Is she a lying, vindictive psychopath? Is she a career criminal who has endangered the lives of countless children? Or, is she a fighter? Someone who refuses to betray her own values? A fantastic teacher and born leader?
