What Is a Woman? (2022)
Scratching the surface...
An interesting documentary, or should I say: an interesting topic. For that alone it deserves to be seen. My only objections goes to its scope/extent/depth. The author should have dug deeper. I wish he had interviewed more doctors, psychiatrists, anthropologists, sociologists (and other relevant professionals), as well as people who experience(d) dysmorphia, their friends and family members. Nothing was really analyzed to the core. Issue of transgender women in sports. Parental consent for young people wanting to undergo medical treatment for gender reassignment. Media, political and pharmaceutical lobbies and their agendas in this.
My point is, this really should have been a series. Six episodes at least.
Matt Walsh merely scratched the surface. But he did scratch it, which is more than anyone else seems to dare.
Kingdom (2014)
How did I not know about this?!
I never write reviews, but now I just have to. So, the story is very "real life", unpredictable and involves many complex characters. After watching all three seasons, I couldn't shake the feeling that I knew all of them personally, like they were actual people in my life, friends and/or family members...
Johnatan Tucker is absolutely brilliant, I love him. I do.
If I had to compare this to any other show, I think it would be Sons of Anarchy. Different context, but there is still something very relatable (can't put my finger on it, though)...Drama, addiction, success, dysfunction, love, (self)hate...it pretty much covers everything. A must watch.
