Time Masters (1982)

Fascinating
27 November 2013
I have seen this movie 2 or 3 years ago. I don't really remember the characters or the story. But I vividly remember the mood, the landscapes and the overall feel. And even if the character design was not as artistic as somebody would wished for a movie like this ... the whole thing was just fascinating. A hypnotic mix of sadness, new layers of existence and a mind-blowing conclusion at the end. It reminded me a lot of the french comic "La Survivante" from Paul Gillon, which I also don't recall in detail, but know that some aspects of it, will never leave my memory. Ever. If you like the works of Jodorowsky and the movie Phantastic Planet, make sure to check this one out!

Metropia (2009)
5/10
Okay ... well
27 November 2013
So first of all: In general I am a big fan of low-budget and small films. I think thats where the real passion is.

And Metroia really was a one-man-thing. At least that what I took from it. So there is a pretty impressive achievement here. No doubt. I respect that. I like that.

So it kinda hurts me that I have to say that Metropia would have been a better short film then a feature. It sometimes just dragged. And not in a moody or artistic way (dont worry, I am all in for Tarkovsky and Co) but just with spans of scenes that are not interesting. You can argue that a certain kind of monotony helps you understand the character better. I guess thats correct. But there was still a little underwhelming taste in the end.

This Is How the World Ends (2000 TV Movie)
10/10
Between Nowhere and Kaboom
26 November 2013
SADLY there is no real official place to watch this lost pilot. But kinda like "Mulholland Drive" it feels like that nothing really got lost in terms of ideas, because "This is How the World Ends" feels like a mix of "Nowhere" and "Kaboom". There is a lot of Homage to "Nowhere" and even more elements which are later found in "Kaboom".

Well after all this said: If you love Araki (like me) you will enjoy this pilot a lot. Try to find it and enjoy another stylish-teenage-art-house-trash-fest from Gregg Araki.

Sadly "Kaboom" was the grand final of this kind of Araki-Movies. But then again ... we never really expected "Kaboom" to happen. So be happy until the world finally ends.

See you at the bitter End.

Stranded (2001)
9/10
I was in the mood for it
26 November 2013
It is a flawed movie. Yes. But it was fascinating. And for me that it all that counts. There was obviously not enough budget. But looked at the movie with an art-house-expectation it works just fine. (because It really doesn't matter how good FX is in a movie like this) The atmosphere was there. The actors where perfect for this kinda-genre, and the visuals where nice.

Sadly this was not the beginning of "Luna's" career as a director, but the end as it seems. I think she got misunderstood and I would wish that "Stranded" would get some art-house cult-following. But I guess this will never happen.

At least I hope Luna will get out of the direct-to-video-ghetto.

Casshern (2004)

A visual blast, but tedious as hell
26 November 2013
Lat ANYBODY watch ANY 5 minutes of the movie and they will say "holy sh**t that is amazing". And at least back in 2004 it was mind-blowing what Casshern delivers in visuals and style. The director was a fashion designer or something and by all means: that shows. Casshern is a beauty.

But a beauty that feels like 6 hours and has nothing interesting to say. At some point you just end up being exhausted and bored. And it really is a pity.

We need Dario Argento to make an European cut with 75 Minutes runtime and have a blast with the outcome.

Depends what you expect
26 November 2013
It's direct to video, which is a sub-genre on its own. And (at least I do so) this genre needs to be seen on it's own. If you compare Fortress II with the first one ... its of course cheaper. Claner, but cheaper. And the original was a trash-movie to begin with.

But I really had no problem with that. Within its options it was well made, and I liked the setting and idea.

If you go in, knowing that this was never supposed to be a "passion"-projecct from a filmmaker, then I really cant point out that much stuff which could upset you.

Maybe hardcore fans from the first movie. But then again: It's not like that part 2 totally destroys the original.

I liked it, for what it is.

The Spoony Experiment (2007–2016)
7/10
What's a Paladin?
26 November 2013
I like Spoony. His show has its up and downs for sure (and I guess that this is also true about his private live), but in general I enjoy his "work".

There are a lot of review-people out there, but Spoony sometimes really has genius moments of humor. (Lately not so much when he is drunk in front of camera and thinks he is a golden go)

My personal highlight are his reviews to the Ultima-Series. Its just interesting to watch, and he is really in it with is heart. I just write this while watching his interviews with Lord British that came up online a few days ago (I am writing in October 2013) and you know ... he is just "somebody" who did something that meant something to him, and now he is invited in the holy-halls of Lord British.

Cool thing.

Way to go Spoony. Keep standing!
