Absentia (2011)
Good Concept Left Undeveloped/Half-Assed Movie
They either took the "mystery" genre too seriously or completely disregarded it.
Nothing happens in the first 3/4 of the movie, and just when it gets interesting, it ends without an explanation. You get the promise of a spooky tunnel, missing people, supernatural lore, unknown creatures and in the end you get a total of 2 seconds of said creature (not all at once, more like frames throughout the movie), NO development of the story at all, no exploration of the lore that gets mentioned, absolutely nothing at all.
At first I was gonna give it 3 stars but I'll lower it to one because this movie made me feel unbelievably angry. Why would you start something that could be so amazing and just literally abandon it, leave it. Why would you cut the story short right BEFORE you reach the climactic moment. I get it if you want to leave everything at a cliffhanger after the main climatic moment of the story/movie but they didn't even get there. They were so close.
If you do something, do it right or don't do it at all. Half-assing idiot directors/producers/whoever wrote the plot. This ain't even half-assed. It's at best 1/8th-assed.
Awoken (2019)
Hated the main character so much I *had to* write a review
The movie was actually not bad, if it wasn't for the horrible main character, I'd give it a solid 7 but I hated her so much I was compelled to write this review.
The main character, KJ is so stupid, borderline intellectually disabled, it's unbelievable she survived till the end of the movie.
While trying to perform an exorcism the first time, not only did she not prepare the page she had to read from, but she was reading slower than a first-grader studying English as a second language.
During the read-off battle with the "bad guy", Rob, instead of trying to read the exorcism as fast as possible, she was literally waiting for Rob to finish reading his release-the-demon-from-his-human-prison spell. What is this? A turn-based RPG?
I was rooting for her to somehow die but unfortunately she survived. Guess her stupidity got her what she deserved in the end.
P. S. Apart from incredibly stupid, she was also incredibly annoying, her personality was absolutely terrible.
Nailed It! (2018)
Nice show but...
It's really interesting to watch, it's well made, but some things just don't make sense.
Why would they give ridiculously short amount of time for the second part of the competition? They participants are people with no baking experience and the time they give them is simply not enough. I'm pretty sure not even the professionals would be able to make such an exceptional cake in under 120 minutes.
Also, the host, Nicole Byer, who seems to me like a really nice and fun person, is way too loud. It's the first time I've ever seen her on the screen and all I saw at first was her yelling. All the time. Whatever she says, she screams it. She simply cannot talk. She makes the show extremely hard to watch, not only because it gets way too annoying after the first 10 min of constant shouting, but also because you can barely hear anyone else talk. If you wanna be able to make out what the others are saying, you should put the volume nearly at max, and then after a few seconds, Nicole starts shouting and the sound wave throws you against the wall. They could've edited this before releasing the show... I mean, you don't hear the other stuff in the background, like the mixers and everything else that makes noise, do you.
