Damsel (2024)
clever story with potential ruined with propaganda
What an interesting story with a twist in the core theme of the prince saving the damsel from the dragon! What a ruined potential adding those details that not merely entertain but also send the political message. What a pity to mix a fantasy medieval world with the contemporary american society and what an irritating propaganda to add all those details in attitude and behavior of the protagonists or just cast those actors that represend all kind of people and races of the modern USA with no practical reason or point to the narrative..
Well, the good things with this movie are the innovative story, the special effects, the nice performance of Millie Bobby Brown and the different environments the plot took place.
The bad things are: The extraordinary strength and training required aspects that gave to the damsel. The non- realistic falls that should result in death that happened (or implied that happened again and again). The non-realistic (almost idiotic in terms of the choices the dragon did) fight between the damsel and the dragon. Escpecially in comparison with any other fight between the dragon and other protagonists or past soldiers. The interracial couples that were the norm in the movie. Instead of creating a kingdom of Asians for example, or black africans for example and suggest that different kingdoms of different races people coexist peacefully and the plot could invest on that aspect, if they truly cared in representing people, they choose to mix people in a hypothetical world that there is no specific homogenous kingdom in terms of race and that it's a mix of multicultural global society.
Lastly, some details that posibly try to send the message, for those who take care in detail: The damsel transformed during the movie from a beautiful feminine typical princess (apart from the self-confidence and the doubtful spirit she used to be) into a fighter with masculine characteristics. She even cut her hair to declare that transformation, something that some women who become radical feminists are used to do. Another message is that: The dragon and the dark past that connects it with the kingdom (I don't want to spoil so I don't define more what I mean) is also redefined in the present but now with an excuse that a deal with the devil if it's meant to be for the good reason it's justified. Lastly, the damsel's transformation into .... (again, I don't want to spoil) reminds the choice of lonely women who reject the world and the norms of the society and choose their own path.
I don't say that is a bad thing. Everyone makes their own choice and it's respected. I just say that a movie should be politically free and don't contain too much societal message. Especially movies that don't class in a social genre, but instead in a fantasy, medieval, science fiction, family destined genre. That's not ok. Even, if most people won't super-analyse all the above aspects, it's still annoying for the typical viewer and it's still obvious that something has changed the last decade and movies don't entertain, or at least don't merely entertain, but also they lecture and send political messages.
Dune: Part Two (2024)
A masterpiece of the old times
A masterpiece of the old times
Do you ever wonder where did the epic movies of the early 2000 (aka Lord of the Rings) went? Do you ever feel that the contemporary directors care more in sending the (political) message through their movies than entertain? Do you look back at the movies of 15-25 years ago and get troubled at how did this old successful recipe vanished?
Dune part II comes to thankfully show us that movies of that old majesty is not yet dead.
Dune is a science fiction movie with an epic tale, well written story, stunning special effects, talented and likable actors filled with heroism and chivalry (even the bad guys showed some kind of value over the opponent) of the old days. This movie has no much drama and none of the contemporary social conflicts 99% of the today movies include, nor any gender rivalry or non realistic (non) feminine behaviour in women. Dune part II is a masterpiece that focus on the story on the character development and the complexity of powers acting over the main protagonists bringing conflicts and shifting on their initial pure intentions. Dune part II surpasses the previous Dune and reaches at a peak level of greatness in the seventh art! It fills holes and answers questions that might have baffled the viewers in the first movie (me personally). For those who haven't read the books or even haven't watched any previous adaptation is a very well understandable film that needs no other filler info.
Well done Denis Villeneuve, you have delivered us a masterpiece the next generations will talk about and have it as a beacon for future movies to come!
I suggest this movie to anyone who loves science fiction movies, adventure and quest movies, fantasy and other planets movies, or even to those who like love stories and surely to those who enjoy a story with a complex political background and scheming.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
A true masterpiece
A true masterpiece! A work of art! Cinematography of high quality!
If you're looking for a 3 hours of special effects, which include exotic environments, spectacular alien nature, fantastic fictional areas and of course, as the title suggests, new aquatic environments, then this is the movie for you!
Also, if you were looking forward to seeing the story going on from where the first movie left us, then again you will be satisfied.
If however, you're looking for a new story with something different from the first movie, then you will be slightly disappointed. I found it quite shallow. Once again, bad human race invade peaceful natives who live as one with their environment, while us humans only looking for exploiting the resources of the planet. I expected rather a different story.
However, I still put a 10 because this is a true eye pleasure, especially for those who wonder and fantasize exotic alien planets, their fauna and.flora. This movie did a really good work in depicting in detail both land plants and creatures and underwater sea plants and sea animals!
Overal, it was worth it paying extra money to enjoy the 3D screening!
Go watch the movie and enjoy it! Hilghly suggested!
Joker (2019)
Overestimated Garbage
I don't understand why a typical viewer would care about a cinematography great acting work of a dillusioned and psychopath. Indeed a masterpiece of a frick, a true and vivid depiction of a disturbing man's evil character and violence with an irritating laugh that spreads paranoia and chills to the viewer. It's just a very well mastered work of a drama and at some point justification of evil and criminal acts of a disabled man.. No action, no good story, no other heroes, not something special. And definately not for the young audience who were misled to think that they would watch some action adventure batman-like movie. Not at the slightest point..
Last but not least.. I believe it sends disturbing messages, justifying the evil to "evil" or just "guilty" people and TOO LONG for a movie of this style, a waste of time not offering anything to a person who just needs to enjoy themselves for an evening..
ps: I also feel that the poor actor after this film may suffer from the same or similar illness of the character he was depicting so truely..
Get Out (2017)
Racism obsession main theme movie trash
Sorry, but all this obsession with racism in every corner is not prototype nor something viewers enjoy. Rather using stereotypes and clichés and being racist against specific people who you consider not too progressive, not too open, not too identical to the mainstream. So the obsession of anti-racism turns out to be racism itself. Making specific minorities to feel more angry for any past disputes and targeting specific groups of people by those minorities and by many more. The movie tries so hard to point out this issue, that in every corner you see or hear stereotype racist comments, concerns, bad behavior always coming from the whites. So in the end the movie succeeds just the opposite. To make people deal and feel either bad or angry with one another. Not a good movie. Too bad, because this concept could have been used differently succeeding in a much better result, without insulting anyone and being more realistic.. Not recommended!
How to Get Away with Murder (2014)
Intelligent but racist and promotion of the evil
This TV show is all about how to get away with murder and how to pretify it, justifying it by law "windows" and by arguments mostly trying to persuade the characters themselves, within personal struggle and later the audience, by showing remorse and higher purpose on the evil actions(love, protection of others). Not only in most cases they are defending evil people who have wronged over others (killed, stole, etc), but they are doing themselves evil actions and choosing evil decisions making it justified to protect themselves or one another, like if protecting someone is above anything else and justifies anything. What is also characteristic of the show, is that it is highly racist over white people. You would say that it is trying to balance the racist over black people and other minorities of the past decades by doing the same on the "dominant" race. So, what we see on the show is that many black and Latin characters dominate with cleverness (Annalise, Michaela), sensitivity and affection (Wes, Nate), leadership (Annalise, Laurel), while the white characters are evil (Sam, Frank, Bonnie), stupid or ridiculous (Bonnie, Asher) or belonging in minorities like gay (Connor) who is also the most unstable character (Bonnie as well) always ready to collapse on high tension circumstances. Apart from the main characters, we always see many more black and minorities people in every new episode, as well as side characters like Meggy, Caleb and Oliver who each one of them somehow connect to the protagonists (boyfriend/girlfriend, sex). To sum up, this show is full of clichés, racist and evil promoting. The main message we receive is that we all have a dark side ready to surface and we are all capable of horrific actions (most common murder). At the same time, we all have a dark past that since we feel bad and after remorse it is justified and forgiven. No one deserves jail and especially if they have grown in a bad family, with violence or abused. The latter, justifies any future crimes as long as you feel remorse. NO PEOPLE, that is NOT TRUE. We are not all evil. And if you break the law YES you deserve prison.
Burn After Reading (2008)
big deal of.. nothing
This bright comedy is suggested for anyone who got tired of all the classic usual stupid-funny movies and would love to enjoy themselves with smart, strange, confusing and some-kind extreme circumstances involving crime and paranoia. The last term might be misunderstood but all this will get clear soon enough. SPOILERS: The story is about some people who are all connected through deception, political discrimination, husband/wife cheating, blackmailing, exploitement while the following words: CIA, love via Internet and lawyers complete the entangled background. You get many messages through funny scenes and stupid behaviors. For start we are presented in a word of deception concerning the marriage where lawyers thrive consulting their clients to use a divorce in order to exploit their companion.Internet meetings and plastic surgeries take place too while a fuzzy filled in conspiracy climate(issue: obsession of being watched) leads each protagonist to follow a dangerous path with no return. It also raises the point about the common American fears stuck to the past (the Russian enemy). The observer to all this seems to be the CIA who discover that they can barely control the situation while they don't really understand what is going on! BIG SPOILER: In the last scene we see the director of the CIA wondering where they were wrong... my guess is that it all started because of the lawyer of Katie Cox who advised her to spy her husband! So what's the main message of the movie? DON'T FOLLOW YOUR LAWYER'S ADVICES ABOUT LEAVING/DECEIVING YOUR HUSBAND! Anyway,I think all this mess was a bit too much that's why the 7 for vote.
Desperation (2006)
Strange thriller-god involved movie
I haven't read the book which is an adaptation of Stephen King to the screen so I can't tell you how close to it this film is. However there are many blanks and failures in the plot which can make you really confused and angry with it.
But what stroke me most was the fact that it was the first movie I've ever seen which is called thriller and involves god and religion so much at times that you feel you are watching an informative show about religion being led by a 15 years old boy who seems to know the gist but gets entangled at the same time.
What really annoyed me was that stupid correlation with TAK "god" which makes ordinary people wonder "this film involves the god we all know with... ghosts(!) (are there any ghosts really?) and other(!) gods (exept the one we think that only exists?).. Personally I got irritated by all these.. Of course it's just a film and we are not supposed to believe in anything, but when you realize that it is reality and widely accepted truths that are mixed with myths and ridiculous lies you reasonably get furious...
Lastly, I want to add the fact that just when you relax and "travel" with all these theological issues that unfold at specific points, you get upset with quick and abrupt turns (where blood, horrible faces, corpses and nasty voices occur). You can say "Hey! it's a thriller, what did you expected?". Well, OK I agree! It's just that jumble with "fragile" issues like faith that I hate most! On the other hand, I feel obliged to highlight the incredibly excellent performance of that young actor Shane Haboucha - David which captivated me! The only reason I give that rate to the movie is for that boy! Perhaps I'm not the best person to judge actors but I found pretty amazing how well he acted and performed such a complicated and emotion-filled role!
Tristan + Isolde (2006)
Excellent production
Tristan and Isolde is a great film unfolding in a medieval background where England and Ireland struggle and challenge what the Romans left behind.Apart from historical events which are not widely well known, this film develops a deep true love between our two heroes Tristan and Isolde in a hostile full of obstacles environment. As they belong in different rival nations both characters after they fall in love and "participate" in a complicated and fragile surrounding, as a result of strange coincidences, they are tantalised and face a crucial dilemma(especially Tristan played by James Franco): to enjoy their love without caring potential disastrous effects on much desired peace or stand out the passion remain loyal honoured? In a way they try to combine these features while giving outstanding performances! James Franco's look full of pain and Sophia Myles' immense but well masked sorrow being wonderfully convincing result in a masterpiece of love story set up in a dark battlefield.Even though the battles comprise of small groups of warriors and the whole movie can't be proud of rich and plenty of special effects, this can partly be justified as the story takes place in around 600 where Romans left only relics of their previous splendor.Of course, however the battles exist are full of strength and are really impressive especially where Tristan fights and strain till the end.Lastly, I couldn't forget Marke by Rufus Sewell's performance which has its own charm.Being without knowing between Tristan and Isolde's romance Marke acts wise during the whole tale and when he finally learns about this-in an extremely electrified atmosphere- he responds absolutely without egoism and... well watch the movie to find what he does!!! It really worths!
The Butterfly Effect 2 (2006)
Hmmm that's what I believe
Hello guys. I've just watched BE2 and I believe it's not good enough too. I mean that it lacks in many fields compared to the first, like story, special effects, quality and and time(it's really short). However, the actors did their best. I love Erica Durance: Not only does she have a perfect body (and sweet and tempting face) but she acts fantastic. If you like, you can watch Smallville where she plays Lois. She is really amazing. Anyway, this sequel is an offense to its name and I hope there would be another worthy film to see. Well, let's be more specific. I agree that sex scenes were not necessary(as some guys mentioned) but i feel that if the scenario was developed more, child reference wouldn't be needed.I liked the point where Nick is searching for information about his "illness" and he finds a picture of a BE1 character(I think Evan's father).I think it would be interesting to see such references to the original Butterfly effect in a possible new one.
