Great man and great story lost in incompetent direction.
16 February 2022
Unfortunately what could be a well deserved homage to a great musician. Was turned into a collage of shots without structure, meaning or plot. I recommend watching until some competent director remakes it.

Run fast from this movie!
24 October 2020
Every single minute of this movie I was wondering why, why, why, would anyone give any credit to such rubbish. How a terrible movie like this would get any praise at all! And I finally got the answer: Political Bleeping Correctness. "Give an award to the different people even if the movie stinks"! A criminal con family. Are those the new "heroes"? The Shawn of the dead is much better than this. Run fast!

This is a FUNNY MOVIE
28 April 2020
Don't listen to other reviews those were written by people who thought LaLaLand and Gaga'sMovie was any good. Lately 99% of the movies rated as comedies are only gross. This is one that really had us all laughing. The production is very good. I'd rather have a film like this on my screen than the useless explosion comic hero movies. Acting is good and convincing and at least for me it was very enjoyable. Comparing to so much rubbish Holywood has been producing in the past 20 years.

Remake of Outro lado..
27 April 2020
Implausible plot, or else a plot that we have seen before and then it jumps to present time when you are presented to a bunch of disjointed people - characters lacking charisma. You are left rooting that the writer kills all the characters, not to mention the silly made up Brazilian northeastern accent.

Oscar for the best movie of the decade!
11 January 2020
Mr. Meireles had a masterpiece with the City of God. Now he just accomplished his second Masterpiece on the ingenious script from Anthony MCCarten. One of the reviewers say "It is the movie we all need right now" and I subscribe to that. In a world of oppositions: you are with me or AGAINST me! The direction takes you to a reflection of the life of both popes adding their conversation during their few but insightful meetings. A way to show, we can learn a lot from the other part if we sit and talk like friends, even if our opinions are opposites. Superb everything, cinematography, locations, set decorations, costumes, art direction and sound. Of course his

Give me something black.
24 February 2019
Seems that some producer requested something black and this is what they came about! Horrible movie, very difficult to understand the dialogues because it was decided to use an accent. Why accent? Or use some African language and stick subtitles or go totally in English. I've spent 40 minutes trying to get some plot, some story, that's when I realised that only them the movie was starting... and what a joke it is. If I were an African descendent I would be offended for using this rubbish to praise the Color. Another joke is Hollywood put this in the list of the best. Disgraceful.

Boring
24 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Was ready to see a great story beautifully told with the best cinematography. Started by being bored with 5 minutes watching water on concrete for the credits. And that more or less summarises the movie. No story, just scenes of this maid cleaning, getting predictably pregnant. Doesn't deserve a chocolate medal!

10 stars and deserving 5 orscars!
25 March 2018
Film production has been so low that recently there are 2 or 3 good movies to watch every year only. This is a good one. A very good one! it came to my attention only because a colleague from the office once turned to me and said: "You remind me of Ms Sloane"! I am still undecided if that was a good or bad thing but I thanked him after a couple of days, to have hinted such a masterpiece of corporate games, a real thriller. Come and thank me later!

Deserves 5 oscars!
25 March 2018
One of the best movies I have seen in this decade. The direction is so well done, the sory telling is not linear but efficient. A weird character that ends up gaining your heart. Everything is good or autstanding in this film. Direction, Art Direction. Cinematography, A gem that should be seen by everybody. Congratulations to all the people involved.

The clue is in the mane. Unfortubatelly we end up not getting it and one hour later we understand that the writing was on the wall and we had refused to read. Film production has been so low that recently there are 2 or 3 good movies to watch every year only. Films like these makes me wonder and think that some producers are 3 year old kids who are in love with sponge bob and have not seen a decent movie in all their lives. Why would anybody put two dollar together to produce such a nonsense.

I can't believe it is not a film

Films like these makes me wonder and think that some producers are 3 year old kids who are in love with sponge bob and have not seen a decent movie in all their lives. It is a complete denial and very confusing, takes some time to understand and when you do, the question is why?

This sequel will spoil the original. A waste of time.

Films like these makes me wonder and think that some producers are 3 year old kids who are in love with sponge bob and have not seen a decent movie in all their lives. Why would anybody put two dollar together to produce such a nonsense. there is no story, the characteres are not relateable, it could have been made into a 20 minutes short.

it gets better from the second episode
25 March 2018
Don't give up this great series; it gets better in the middle of the second episode and takes off from there. It's a rollercoaster ride through the political and bribery games widespread played in Brazil. The world needs to know how much pain and suffer were inflicted in the Brazilian people by the bad politicians fuelled by the greediness of almost 15 years under the Labour party. The two former presidents of Brazil claim that they have been victimized by a coup from bad people It actually the bad administration that both performed that caused one of the biggest economies of the world, to flop too brutally. The direction is a bit chaotic but the movie happens regardless.

Struggles of a couple about to split up but who are still in love with each other.
16 October 2016
Beautiful. The director Mr. Villaça, has a little gem here. It is some time I see a Brazilian movie that moves me. This one takes to a little trip around on of the biggest cities of the world: Sao Paulo while showing you the little relationship trouble between Ana Lucia and Fabio. Like other couples in good romantic movies, you also easily fall in love with them and you see yourself following their steps between rooms, buildings, streets and different boroughs making a parallel with the city's landscape ever changing with the characters' growing and changing. New buildings and demolition, new ideas and expiration of others. The lyricism is present throughout: in the locations, in the set decoration, cinematography. The original score and soundtrack created especially for the movie permeates, creating the right atmosphere for the scenes. There is also a group of characters spread in between scenes that brings a look on big cities' life and it gave the director a chance to bring to the big screen icons of acting in the Brazilian performance and arts. Looking on movie-making as an entertainment that brings art and culture for the masses, this movie is a "must see" for viewers, cinema students and mainly for directors, since it brings lyricism, beauty, and thoughtfulness while entertaining. It is a shame that Brazilian film marketing is that awful. If this movie were produced and marketed by American executives of marketing, it could have turned to be another romantic movie hit like Sleepless in Seattle. The actress Denise Fraga is great but she has performed similar characters before. Now Domingos Montagner(Montanhér because the name is from Italian origin) shows his mastery on acting by creating this singular character. Fabio is a professional man who has no problems falling in love and showing how delicate a grown man can be when his heart is broken. Unfortunately, when I write this review is some weeks after this phenomenal actor has passed away in a drowning accident in one of the biggest rivers in Brazil, in between his shooting of another work. I would compare Mr. Montagner work with Robert DeNiro's acting. All the other aspects of filmmaking are also superb: cinematography, costumes, set locations and decorations, make up, lighting, editing, etc.

sickly sad never a comedy!
12 November 2015
I have to confess that I was very exited about watching this movie so you can imagine my surprise that the movie starts and continues with women feeling sorry for themselves and complaining about everything under the sun. During the whole movie I had a feeling of running away. In few occasions where a joke was presented, it was of such bad taste that makes you cringe. Horror: Sharknado is much better that this. Imagine "The Hangover" with "The Inbetweeners" characters transformed into female characters and bitching right left and centre, having rows with each other. There is not a single line, scene or emotion you could extract from this movie. I am always appalled by what goes in the producers minds when they decide to spend millions of dollar in such rubbish! Couldn't they see that it is a bunch of garbage with some not so bad looking actresses and scenery! Runaway! I mean, The runaway bride is much better (even though I'd score it 6).

Coraline (2009)

great animation, no story
12 March 2012
There are no words to praise the artists enough however it was all in vain because it is a collection of strange different creatures serving to a movie without story. It takes you half of the movie to figure out that it would probably take you and Coraline nowhere. when you are eager to know the purpose of it all the director takes you to useless chases and after a gross scene of old lady with bare BIG boobs there you find the very ugly skinny mother who wants to put buttons on her kid's eyes. I had lots of fun enjoying the making of the puppets and movie. Great art direction. Great soundtrack. Some changes between scenes are just amazing but none of the amazing animation could stop me from being bored with the lack of sense and story. If it was bases on Alice it was very badly made. If it is any consolation I also did not like Tim Burton's Alice.
