The Legend of Korra (2012)
dont compare it to ATLA and you'll enjoy it more
I was originally gonna give it a 9 but then I realised that's only because I'm comparing it to the original, which is something like a 14/10.
Winnie the Pooh (2011)
sweet
Heartwarming, perfect for those looking for light-hearted humour
La tortue rouge (2016)
a movie that makes you go "what the f..."
You walk into this movie expecting some cute animation about a man and his turtle or something like that, you end feeling so existentially climaxed. Yeah just watch the movie you can't express such sentiments in words, at least not by an idiot like me
A Quiet Place (2018)
regret watching this movie on a plane
A completely fresh premise? Check
No excessive stupid dialogue that only serves as exposition? Check
Jumpscares that are actually well planned out? Check
hope the sequel doesn't become a parody of itself
John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019)
the perfect mindless action movie that somehow tops the last two
Turn off your brain, because you're in for a wild ride. What it lacks in realism and a plot at all is made up by the flair and panache the film is shot with. Style over substance, for sure, but the style is so stylish it still makes for an enjoyable experience.
Psiconautas, los niños olvidados (2015)
frightening, but that's all
Here we have a edgy main character who doesn't talk and somehow lands some girl who worships him for reasons unestablished
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015)
movie tries to be clever
A stereotypically witty American meets a stereotypically big and burly Russian as they team up in totally realistic mission where the two superpowers somehow decided to work together in the height of the cold war.
The one liners are mostly just simple jabs at each other's nationality, along with an underdeveloped love story between the Russian and the female. I say "the female" because as far as I'm concerned she spends the majority of the movie wearing nice clothes and looking pretty while being a plot device to bring the movie forward. Hey, it never hurts to have a hot, one-dimensional girl.
Dancer in the Dark (2000)
fantastically, monstrously, uniquely depressing
The movie looks like it was shot on a potato
There is no music in scenes that did not take place in the main character's figment of imagination, which somehow further emphasises its bleakness by showing that real life is not musical, magical or movie-like. Seriously this movie would be less depressing if had no music at all.
It's not a movie to be enjoyed, but to be endured.
If anything this movie is proof that one cannot be always good or one will be eliminated from the cruelties of life. Evil has to be reciprocated, in what way I do not know, but blindly accepting other people trampling over you will lead you to your own downfall.
We do not even know if the main character's one and only wish in life is fulfilled. It was extremely briefly and vaguely touched upon.
Portrait de la jeune fille en feu (2019)
Everyone has a voice (mild spoiler)
On top of everything that's been said about this wondrous film, I also really appreciate the filmmakers and the main characters treating the maid, Sophie, like an actual human being with emotions and issues, rather than just some background object, as what usually happens.
