Lost River (2014)
conflicted thoughts...
I just finished watching Ryan gosling's lost river and I'm not sure how to feel about it. the reason I watched this film is because someone who's opinion on film's I respect had a few positive things to say about it so I saw it and I still can't quite figure whether it is a masterpiece or just plain bad. if you have heard anything about this movie you will probably know about the amount of gore in the film. the scenes in question seem meaningless so they come of as pointless and silly.don't get me wrong I'm fine with gore in films sometimes they can be really well handled and have a meaning just like in the original old boy. to the film's credit the cinematography was pretty impressive but that doesn't hide the fact that scenes like one particular dance scene are just laughable. this film may have a deeper meaning than I give it credit for and this is pretty good for a directorial debut and I am looking forward for anything else Ryan gosling directs to see if he improves. I can't right now give a definitive rating but I'll give it between a 5 and a 6 out of ten.
