Good insight into history, showing us that corruption isn't new
26 May 2022
People giving this 1-3 stars calling it "propaganda" just want to bury their heads in the sand.

This show has interviews of real people involved in real scandals surrounding the presidency.

Also, how can you call it propoganda when Nixon, for example, was proven to be behind Watergate and the subsequent cover-up? The guy left office lmao. Get real people!

Not great, but calm down your anti-woke stuff
13 March 2022
First off, all the reviews complaining about woke themes need to chill. Many of the cast are Canadian, and Toronto is a multicultural city. You need to grow up and stop reaching deep just because you're insecure about the world around you.

I rated the movie a 5. It might be a good movie for a 12-14 year old, but most kids are too young for it, and adults can't really relate. Very awkward at times, which is probably what it was going for, but it just didn't land. I liked the animation but that was basically it.

Chinatown (1974)

Enjoyable
31 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed watching this movie, though I won't rave about it like most people do. I think it was beautifully shot, casted, and scripted, but the story was a bit of a slow burner. That is fine with me generally, but I didn't think the plot was earth shattering or completely mind- bending.

I think I was looking for something different than what this film gave me, but I think given the time period it was created and the time period it was set that it was extremely well done. I like that the ending wasn't so happy, and that there was a darker side to it, but I think I am desensitized by those things these days. Had I seen this movie in 1974 I probably would've given it an 8, and I can look at it for what it's worth.

Adaptation. (2002)
8/10
One of my favorite movies
31 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I'm really late on the Adaptation train, like 13 years late. It took me a bit to "get it", but once I did I enjoyed this movie thoroughly. Cage gives a great performance as Charlie Kaufman and his imaginary twin brother, which in itself is fantastic. Charlie is a socially awkward, neurotic, always in his head kinda guy, which is basically Nick Cage.

This film is quirky to say the least and outright awkwardly funny. Seeing Cage fantasizing himself making love to pretty much every female is great, which further enhances the juxtaposition of Charlie and Donald (imaginary brother).

The struggle of Susan (Meryl Streep) was real, and the side story of her interviewing/falling in love with the odd but intelligent John Laroche (Chris Cooper) was portrayed very well.

Basically this movie was great because it was funny, weird, a little sad, had a bunch of different themes, and ended with a huge mocking of Hollywood movies (or at least that's how I took it). Would watch again.

Rare movie that straddles the line between brilliance and utter stupidity
30 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Wow..All I have to say is wow, pure Cage gold. I never ever ever take Nick Cage seriously so that might be why I enjoyed this movie so much, but he really needs to only be in movies like this once every 4-5 years as to not let us get used to it. Seriously Cage has been doing it all wrong all these years and needs to learn from his 1988 self. I am convinced that nobody could have performed in this role better.

I love the campy 80's vibe and music and clothing, but that's only the beginning of the entertainment. Cage essentially plays the same general character as Christian Bale in American Psycho (which was inspired by this movie FYI, look at the Trivia section) - a fairly well-off businessman who is slowly losing his mind. That is literally the whole plot. Again why this movie is solid gold.

This is not a vampire movie. It took me almost the entirety of the movie to realize that fact, and some people who gave it poor ratings probably didn't come to that realization. Cage is dissatisfied with his lifestyle of going out and sleeping with different women every night, so he just cracks. That is what Cage does best. This movie has some of my favorite Cage-isms that I didn't know were in this movie.

1. Nicholas Cage creepy face meme 2. "Well, I was really horny at the time." 3. "Am I getting through to you, Alva?" 4. "A! B! C! D! E! F! G!...etc" 5. The famous "I'm a Vampire! I'm a Vampire!"

I could literally write about this movie all day, it excites me way too much. It is just so ridiculous but maintains its composure and brilliance in doing so. Get through the opening 30 minutes or so and prepare for a Cage experience that you'd never expect.

Also what the f kind of accent does he have?

Young Ones (2014)
7/10
Satisfying Futuristic Western-Style movie
30 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
First off I haven't seen any reviews that mentioned this, but Young Ones was not at all what I expected. I expected this movie to be a dystopian Sci-Fi action movie about tough times in the future, which is actually all kind in the background. This turned out to be for the better.

I don't know where the movie was shot, but the visuals were stunning. Everything is desert, rocks, and old buildings (or a house made of ship containers). There's a scene where you do see plants, and the colors are so vivid. Additionally, I very much enjoyed the slow-burn revenge tone of the movie. The movie pacing wasn't slow, but the build up of pain and anger felt so real that I felt as frustrated as Jerome (who I didn't know was the main character until like halfway through the movie).

There were some weird plot points that never get resolved, like the fact that there's a perfectly good city nearby where everything seems normal and you don't know why these characters aren't allowed through the gates. Also, that random girl that Jerome meets and kinda likes, but never ends up seeing again? Kinda odd. Also I don't like Elle Fanning after seeing this movie, she just doesn't seem to fit...

Overall I enjoyed this movie. It was entertaining to watch, kept my attention throughout, and made me feel for the characters. The oddities in the plot were minor and had little impact on my rating. Watch this movie.

LFO (2013)
7/10
Low Frequency Oscillation?
30 August 2015
I just watched LFO yesterday, and boy was I satisfied. At the time of writing this review there were only two other user reviews - which I agree with; this Sci-Fi film is dark, comedic, serious, and a tad psychologically disturbing at times (not so much that I would tell anyone to stay away). I wouldn't really consider this a dark comedy despite its comedic moments, since I felt a more serious tone to the movie.

I think the plot is well described and the other reviews encompass a lot of what I feel so I'm not going to elaborate on any of those. I really just want to say that I gave LFO a 7 because that is what I feel most people would agree with, but after viewing it I personally feel it's an 8.

It kept my attention while I was trying to determine the fate of Robert, Simon, and Clara, but I walked away from this movie feeling as though I was hypnotized myself. I couldn't stop thinking about LFO for a good hour after completion, which typically wins me over.

Watch this movie. Hopefully it's still on Netflix when you read this review, but it's totally worth paying for.

Chilling story that feels real.
13 August 2014
I never review movies on IMDb (maybe I should more), but the lack of reviews and the bad reviews made me go for it. Anyone who thinks this movie is bad has no sense of imagination and is most likely does not know what a good movie is. Please watch this movie if you have half a brain or more.

The beginning draws you in, making you think that some of this stuff could be/actually is real. Things begin to get a little strange, then paranoia sets in as the film progresses. Eventually it gets scary. Not the bloody, gory, new-age horror type of scary, like actually psychologically scary. I was glued to my computer screen by the end, feeling the type of curiosity and fear that the characters felt. Very, very well done movie. It's so refreshing to see a movie outside of the Hollywood mold, especially one that captivates you like this one. Don't believe the bad reviews, get on Netflix and watch it.
