Kate's New Job (2004)
Kate's New Job: Interesting twist on vampire myth
Pierre Larouche's Kate's New Job was definitely one of the best among the new low budget horror films presented at the last Fantasia Festival in Montreal. Larouche proves to be very inventive as a writer/director, taking a well known (and overused) horror movie theme and using it as a critique of a days work in an office building. Think of it as Dilbert meets Dracula. With hardly any budget the director demonstrates a certain talent for atmosphere, making the office Kate works in seem very stifling and managing to pull off a couple of OK scares without the use of special effects. The actors are pretty good (actually way above average for this sort of low budget movie), especially Hannah Dorozio, very believable in the title role, and Robert Harrop who practically steals the show as the weirdo janitor who knows more than he should about the stuff going on at Feedback Communication... A fun short film from beginning to end.
