Taken (2008)
Creators of B13 spin an all new web of an intelligent yet uber-brutal spy thriller
I knew nothing of this film. I had seen B13 and almost all of Luc Besson's work, and I think he is one of the best out there. Someone told me this film is written by Besson and directed by B13 helmer Pierre, so I thought this would be just another mindless fun actioner , but good god, was i wrong or what? This is an amazing film, and running at a pace of 93 minutes, you won't even know when it started and finished, and will leave you craving for some more. The fight scenes are exhilarating, the car chases are slick, and the way in which Neeson dishes out his own brand of justice is just plain super. We had no romantic interconnections, no boring humdrum or anything to loosen our grips on the tight narrative.Even then, this ain't your usual Statham action film, Neeson is a great actor, just check out the scene when he hears his daughter screaming while being kidnapped , and his lines after that, just before the "Good Luck", i knew this film was gonna be kick-ass at that moment, but i never expected so much. Our Spy Neeson doesn't trails, he kills. He knows how to get revenge, and how....A bloody brilliant action movie.
The Dark Knight (2008)
Madness of modern times require a dark knight
A tight action thriller yet again from the brilliant Nolan, exploiting the darkness of modern times, fuelled by psychopaths and media, yet subdued by the raw goodness embedded in us drives this excellent film. Cinema at its majestic best, it is one of the greatest stories ever told and establishes The late heath ledgers' portrayal of the joker as the greatest cinematic icons of our times....and bale is spot on as bruce wayne, eckhart does an amazingly wonderful job showing early signs of bats next nemesis....and maggie was great too, a sublime performance, a confused mind scared of the bat, still in love with the man behind it...Kudos to The Dark Knight....Thank u Mr. Nolan...
Rambo (2008)
Stallone goes all out for one last war
We all know John Rambo, an ex-green beret, Vietnam war vet, standing tall against all odds, being the enemy's worst nightmare....This time, our hero has grown older, but the ravages of time seem to have made him stronger.Away from civilization, he has embraced war-zone as his home. But, Rambo proves once again that heroes exist for a reason. And at the end of it all, it doesn't hurt to go back to your roots and live in peace. This is an ultra-violent, slick, twisted tale of horrors of war, and how brutality can only be fought by more brutality.Stallone packs a real punch in his bang-on target direction, and his every kill will make u feel that the victim truly deserved it.Do not believe the critics, this is the definitive action movie of our times. If people could like idiotic cinema like Hostel, Grindhouse, I can clearly see why the critics hate Rambo. This movie has it all, Great Action, Tight Script, Awesome Stunt-Pieces, and some great action by Sly....Go for it, Rambo.....
Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal (2007)
A riveting sports drama from the land of Cricket
OK, first things first, India has cricket as it's unofficial national game (kabaddi, ask any1 here and u'll get a blank face). But still, soccer is ultra popular in West Bengal and small factions...So, the chances of this movie doing well were always bleak, and so it didn't do well, but this film was good....i mean GOOD...John fitted the role of a racially abused striker almost perfectly, Arshad was a little sidelined towards the end, still he played a matured role with enough maturity. The team was full of oddballs, but Boman pumped them up, okay, that ManU bit was a bit overboard, still good...U get inspired from champs, don't u...Bips was there just for bollywood style fun...the babe in the item song was uber hot...Arshad's wife was well casted and enacted, and the tale of Southhall's fan was a good twist to the same old tale...The finale was gr8...Overall, a good sports drama...and those who think what happened to John doesn't happens nowadays, wake up idiots, don't u see what the aussies did to India...
Taare Zameen Par (2007)
The Perfectionist turns into a Master Director
Long ago, i read in some magazine that Hum Hain Raahii Pyaar Ke, was actually directed by Aamir, not Mahesh Bhatt. Now, I truly believe that statement.Aamir seems to know kids very well, and he has made a truly heart-wrenching, soul stirring film, which reminds us that in a world where people are more worried about corruption, politics, deceit, assassinations, hate, lust, somewhere down the line, the child is being neglected.Bollywood is churning out idiotic cinema of the likes of Welcome, OSO, Partner, while Aamir has still not lost all hopes and gave us stars on earth...literally.This year, Jab We Met, Black Friday (Bheja Fry i liked very much, but rajeev masand says it's a scene by scene rip-off of some french flick) and TZP made us realize how wonderful the Indian Film Industry is...Now, for the actors, Darsheel the kid was spot on, and he gave the performance of a lifetime, anyone who has been in a hostel or boarding would've shared the agony...Aamir's was wonderful as usual, and even the theatrics of his being a singing, dancing, encouraging young art teacher, taunting the parents at times to make them realize the truth, his little tokens of interaction with a co-teacher at tulips, and the climax where darsheel disappears and the re-appears, makes you realize to be ready for some wonderful cinema from Director Aamir Khan.... Eagerly waiting for Ghajini remake....
Eklavya (2007)
A Masterpiece without a doubt
Finally, an excellent movie utilizing the dark and brooding past and secrets of India, while blending them perfectly with the modern era...A Die-Hard Royal Guard who is willing to lay his life for his Rana...A Royal Heir with a guarded past...A powerless Rana who has turned murderous...An uncle with greedy motives...A cop with umpteen respect for the old royal guard, yet lots of anguish against the palace...all this sums up to a great story by a master story-teller, well defined characters, some well executed action shots, and great performances, and you have a modern-day masterpiece...A must watch...Glad to know Indian Film Industry can still churn out great cinema...If anyone is criticising this film, just avoid them...and see this movie...you'll be glad...India has made a mark in the International scene this time...
Dhoom (2004)
Dhoom is just for kids
This movie did not do anything for me, seriously, i was too annoyed by the background music in which the words "Dhoom Dhoom" were being echoed during every "not so high speed" chase sequence!Abhishek Bachchan tried to look ultra cool, but he couldn't. John was cool but not properly utilized!Esha showed some nice legs and cleavage, but that's all from her. She acts like a dead parrot.Seeing her, it is hard to believe that she is the daughter of Dharmendra or sister or Sunny or Bobby or Abhay Deol (Check out Abhay Deol and Ayesha Takia in "Socha Na Tha", one of the best bollywood romantic flicks, without that larger than life idiotic make-believe karan johar stuff).Uday was funny, his role should have been extended. And, the special effects looked like a puppet show!If u got kids, whom u would like to stay away from fast and the furious , let them see this !By the way, a sequel to this is under works and will have hrithik "look at me, i'm so cool and stupid" roshan and Aishwarya "i won't kiss bond, but no probs in kissing vivek" Rai!
