Valerie Curtin steals the show!
14 October 2019
Just saw this episode on Antenna-TV and usually, I turn the station after a few minutes, but the hippie-chick, played totally on point by veteran character actress Valerie Curtin (cousin of Jane) stole the show for me. Her mid-70's granola eating, new age -hippie enlightened , self-involved air-headed Sky frustrated Jim to no end and their back and forth banter written deftly by David Chase (of The Sopranos fame) kept the show at a fast clip. I thought I'd seen all 250 episodes of "Rockford", but this one slipped under the radar and I'm glad I saw it 40yrs later.

R I P, James "Rockfish" Garner.

Where's The Beef? In Julio's pants!
1 January 2019
Angela Smalls and Julio Gomez together make magic on the screen as she, all 5 foot and 90 pounds, gamely tries to swallow his prodigious 13 inch black cock. But the real winning shots are close ups of his entering her and letting that 20 pound piece of black magic dick rest ever so gently on her cunt lips right before plowing her gaping little tight white pussy. It's a 5 minute scene that will have every size queen slowing down, replaying and enlarging the pic on DVD.

Mandingo Magic
30 December 2018
Mandingo number 4 is one of the hottest IR films ever and all because Angela Krystal's complete worship of Mandingo's prodigious member.. She is in the final scene and is so lovely to look (think Maria Sharapova at age 18) that even some 15 years after its' initial release I never fail to become excited to watch the her give of herself and surrender to the power of Mandingo.

Did anybody notice...?
29 October 2018
This movie is so wonderfully cheesy, you can smell the Velveeta oozing from your tv screen. It's a delightful camp-fest full of horrors and Joan Crawford at her scenery-chewing best, and lovely Diane Baker. At the very end, though...did anyone notice after the final credits roll, the Columbia Studios signature "Lady Columbia" is HEADLESS...with her head lying at her feet!

The Big Mouth (1967)

Rest In Peace, JL. "The Big Mouth" is Big Fun!!!
21 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
***Spoiler Alert*** People hating on this movie are not true JL fans. This film may not be on par with his magnum opus, 1963's "The Nutty Professor" and everything he did afterwards should be viewed in that light. However, "The Big Mouth" is comedy gold; especially the scenes involving fellow comedy-legend, the rubber-faced, double-talking, cross-eyed manic magic of Charlie Callas. Heck, the 3 parts where Lewis hides out from the Mob inside a kabuki theater, onstage joining the cast in full kabuki-makeup, ad-libbing gibberish Japanese lines is absolutely side-splitting entertainment and still makes me convulse in laughter 50 years later.

Jerry died yesterday at age 91, God rest his soul. Do yourself a favor and go rent the underrated 1967's "Big Mouth", and watch a comic legend at his finest.

The Simpsons: King of the Hill (1998)
Season 9, Episode 23
Funniest....Line....Ever
14 July 2017
This episode contains one of my Top Ten All-Time Homer Lines.

After Homer is duped, er, I mean persuaded into climbing Mt. Springfield to promote an energy snack bar, he uses the bar as fuel for energy and during the arduous trip up the mountain, he finds out from the promoters that the bar is not full of super-enriched natural fruits and fiber but old Chinese newspapers. He takes a bite and sure enough, with impeccable comedic timing, looks at the bitten off-bar and says: "Wow, you're right...Xung Dau Ping died...".

This line has stuck with me for nearly 20 years and is as funny today as it ever was, especially when I see a repeat on Fox TV's FX-Simpsons Marathons and reminds me of the brilliantly creative writing that has been the hallmark of this enduring TV show.

Jean Simmons as Kanchi
27 June 2017
This is just a quick note on the exquisite scene where Jean Simmons dances as Kanchi. Never before or since seeing this film a few years ago has a character stirred me inside with her wild beauty and playful flirtations with the young prince played by Sabu as did Jean Simmons. Without uttering a word, her dancing is one of the sexiest scenes ever filmed...magically, the movie is almost frozen in time as she flutters across the palace floor and Sabu is stirred as well and you feel it too. It's simply a breath-taking scene in a movie full of them by one of the most underrated actresses ever.

Rod Steiger, We Salute You!
26 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
****Spoiler Alert**** This is one of my Season 9 favs and the scene that always makes me laugh out loud is when legendary actor Rod Steiger lends his voice as captain of the submarine, addresses his crew and takes a special liking to Homer, including the line "Homer, I don't know if it's the sea air or lack of oxygen down here, but I like the cut of your jib." Naturally Homer has no idea what a jib is, even though he's in the friggin' Navy...lol. There's also a line about whales making sounds undersea as Homer enters the dining room, and Homer asking "Is the poop-deck what I think it means?" Probably the most incredulous scene is Homer avoiding disaster when he uses Bart's diamond earring to plug a whole in the sinking sub. Overall, a hilarious episode with Rod Steiger turning in a magnificent performance.

A Template For Martin Scorsese's "The Departed" ?
25 June 2017
Saw this the other night on Movies-TV Film Noir Saturday Night. I read somewhere long ago that legendary director Marty Scorsese was sickly as a child and spent many days at the matinée in his native Brooklyn watching films. I could easily imagine him sitting in a darkened theater around 13 or 14 yrs old and being transfixed by this movie. It reminds me of "The Departed" with all the inside mob and cop snitching, replacing Richard Widmark in the Jack Nicholson role. Excellent caper film.

Gene Tierney's hair in one little scene....exquisite.
14 June 2017
This isn't a review but this is the only website I know of that even remotely deals with subtle nuances one might have seen in a little known movie that features the lovely Gene Tierney in one of her first big films. This little gem directed by the great William Wellman has a scene in it where Gene steps out of the shower with ringlets in her hair that were captured by the Technicolor light in such a way as to take my breath away and have never forgotten it. Her hair was usually shown dry and perfectly coiffed and this is the only movie of hers I know where those fantastic ringlets were shown.

Thank you, IMDb for letting this love-sick Gene Tierney fan express his admiration for an actress from Hollywood's Golden Age.

The Simpsons: The Joy of Sect (1998)
Season 9, Episode 13
An Above Average "Cult" Classic
7 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
***Spoiler Alert**** Season 9 offered a wide variety of memorable episodes, with "The Joy of Sect" being at or near the top of the heap. This take on religious cults is hilarious from beginning to end, the funniest moments being when the Simpsons are herded up and moved into the Sect Compound where Homer and the kids are swept up into a zombie-like state of "Leader-mania". Marge steadfastly holds on to her own wits and is the only hope against total family surrender. Some of the funnier bits during the middle of the episode include takes on the theme from "Batman", Homer's collection of dried kidney beans that resemble the Leader, and Marge winning the kids over during a deprogramming effort with promises of hover bikes. At one point, Ned Flanders has a group of cult authorities assembled in his rumpus room for beer and gets so mad at one of them that he promises "mostly head", saying it in the only way Ned can, i.e., sexually ambiguous....hilarious indeed! The leader is ultimately exposed as a money-grabber and the Simpsons return to their home safe and sound.

The Simpsons: The Last Temptation of Krusty (1998)
Season 9, Episode 15
A 9th Season Gem
26 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
***SPOILER ALERT*** This is in my Top 5 All-Time "Krusty" Episodes, (number one being the 1993 episode where he makes up with his long-lost father, played by the impeccable Jackie Mason.) The writing is crisp, topped off by Krusty's hilarious Japanese impersonation during a particularly bad performance ("Me so solly...me frap a dickie wrong time...") Krusty finally decides to quit show business and while announcing his "retirement" on live TV, he becomes a different kind of comic, telling it like it is,a no-holds-barred "angry-last guy" giving his opinions on everything from politics to religion in his bombastic way. Acting as if he can't bought, he reluctantly sells out to the local SUV-Truck dealer and advertises for "Canyonero" , resulting in more hilarity. Comedians Jeanine Garafalo, Steven Wright, Bobcat Goldwaithe, and Bruce "Baby Man" Baum lend cameos making this episode one of the funniest, line-for-line, scene by scene ever. This 9th Season (Fall 1997-Spring 1998)gem was a special one for me and remains so to this day. The Simpsons will always have a place in my heart.

The Founder (2016)
The Women Behind The Man
1 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
****SPOILER ALERT**** ***SPOILER ALERT**** I'm taking a different tack in writing this review. What really separates "The Founder" from being just another bio-pic in my opinion are the 2 women in Ray Kroc's life who play different parts in this rags-to-riches, uber-American Dream success story. Ray's first wife, Ethel (played by Laura Dern in a deliberate, low-key but effective performance) seems happy enough with his hit or miss traveling salesman's job; it provides them with enough money to live a comfortable, if dull existence in their suburban Chicago home with a rarely used Country Club membership. Dern plays the dutiful wife, standing by her man through thick and thin but ultimately, Ray's restless and ambitious nature becomes a distraction and the marriage seems to linger like a dreary fog that will never clear. Fast forward to Ray stumbling upon a formula for taking the McDonald's franchise to dizzying heights and it's clear Ethel's not up to the task. Enter Mrs. Joan Smith (played wonderfully by Linda Cardellini)a McDonald's franchisee's wife with whom Ray becomes instantly smitten and the feeling is mutual as Mrs. Smith seems to share Ray's vision to take over the burgeoning fast food world with innovative ideas that ultimately make McDonald's a business empire as synonymous with uniquely American successes as Coca-Cola, Ford Motors and IBM. Kroc divorces Ethel, marries Joan and the rest, as they say is history. Cardellini's performance as Joan brings the picture to life; hers and Ray's energy crackle as they become rich beyond their wildest dreams. They are soulmates who happen to find each other while being stuck in marriages that would not match their burning desire to claw their way to the top of the fast food world.

Ages Very Well Like A Fine Wine
19 April 2017
Saw this recently on THIS-TV and it still holds up extremely well. Director John Milius shows his penchant for blood and guts in a display of unbridled violence, none of it gratuitous. Milius deftly directs like a young Sam Peckinpah, giving depth and subtle nuance to the main characters including a riveting performance by Warren Oates, who is doggedly pursued by Ben Johnsons' main G-Man, Melvin Purvis. Watch for outstanding support from a young Richard Dreyfuss as hot-headed Baby Face Nelson and a calm but cool Pretty Boy Floyd played by Steve Kanaly. Even ex-Mama and Papa singer Michelle Phillips gives a sterling performance as Dillingers' main squeeze.

Catch it next time on television or rent it again...you won't be disappointed.

"Cutting Edge" teen rom-com needs sharpening.
1 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
****SPOILER ALERT****

Just rented this movie from Redbox and I have to admit, if this is what currently passes for "cutting edge teen rom-com" these days then count me out. Hailee Steinfeld's character is instantly annoying from the first frame and remains so thru the whole film without eliciting an ounce of sympathy from this reviewer. The dialogue at times seemed forced, trying hard to be "edgy" and falling flat. She's her own worst enemy, losing her only friend along the way and cock-teasing a boy whom she sex-ted (regrettably so)and drags her history teacher (played by Woody Harrelson, clearly phoning it in here) into her world of self- delusional drama. One keeps waiting for a turning point where she realizes her self-absorption is keeping her from being happy, sadly this moment only comes in the final 20 minutes when, predictably she gains back the friendship of her best bud and falls for the classmate-nerd who's been there all along....a Korean film animator. All in all...meh. Glad I didn't waste money at the Cineplex.

Finally, a cure for insomnia.
6 February 2014
I saw this flick the other night on "Bounce TV" and the only saving grace it has is when Liz Hurley smokes crack and gets all horny for Ice Cube. Ice is a horrible actor and brings nothing to his role as a street wise thug who is intent on getting his brother out of debt to a ruthless drug lord played by the scenery-chewing actor, Ving Rhames. However, I was titillated by the appearance of the tweaked out crack head stripper, Karen, played ably and with surprising acuity by the lovely Ms. Hurley. I did not have to suspend my disbelief {much}to think that she actually may have really smoked crack and when she does she tries to get Ice into bed, but he won't because she's his brothers g/f.
