It's fun! I liked it a lot more than what I expected
I usually find light movies to draw while they keep me distracted, or I rewatch series I love but I don't have to look at all the time, so, I chose this one an I didn't draw a single line during the hole movie. I found it a really good and decent satire of american family movies and I don't know, it was so much fun, and I think meant to be silly and simple: yet incredibly clever in details and with a lot of great jokes, even the dorkier ones that I think work perfect with the tone of the movie. I wish I watched this as a child, I had this fantasy of leaving my parents and maybe, just maybe I would have liked this approach, I don't know.
I think it's a good movie and I'm sure I'll be thinking about it for a while.

Magnificent
WOW
I rarely write reviews but when I have to, I do.
This show is amazing since the beginning. Lately I've been watching a lot of anime and I've found amazing stuff, last week I stumbled upon Kobayashi-san chi no Maid Dragon and I couldn't stop watching it, so I asked around my friends who know more about anime and one told me about this piece of gold show. He showed me a couple of youtube clips and I was amazed. So I wen't straight to it and I was hooked so badly, I watched 13 episodes in a row.
I don't even know how to start talking about what I watched, at the beginning it gave me the impression that it was going to be a "Funky Forest" experience, with all the clips unrelated and all the craziness going on, but the story starts to shape from the pieces and it's done with mastery. The writing and timing of the story it's life-like and perfect so you can just dig into the show slowly until you totally love it.
The animation is amazing too, I love how they have all the references to everything that's been drawn, I laughed at a Tintin reference that is so funny and subtle at the same time that I had to pause that episode. There are some cuts that are mere poetry (and the good kind too), all the dreamy parts are amazing, and the action scenes are so full of movement it's incredible, the constant contrast between the ordinary and the extraordinary are very well done.
I just enjoyed how every character is developed, how real the girls feel like, how the animal's personalities are portrayed, and the interactions between character are very cautiously set together, that the show feels so real no matter how crazy the situations in it are developing.
It's divided in two parts and the second one becomes a little more serious than the first one, it's when everything starts making sense (in a way) and it takes a little more intelligence (I think) to understand what's going on and put the pieces together, and if the first part was amazing, the second one is just filled with miracles and it's built perfectly that when the last episode comes, it's joy coming out of the viewer's mind.
It's filled with running gags, great music and catchy songs, and so full of happiness that looks simple, but it's made with pure genius, I love how this was made. It is a must watch,
I didn't know nothing about Kyoto Animation but with this show in their history, I'm going to watch everything they've ever done. And I need the manga this show is based on, immediately
11 out of 5 stars, this is amazing and I can't believe I'm alive and watching this, I am so grateful right now with everyone involved in this, my heart pounds like a stampede... calm down my cowboy, Bill Watts!
Güeros (2014)
Boring. Pointless movie
Not worth a watch, I'm surprised by the good reviews it's getting, making me think that the people involved in the film are the ones writing the good reviews.
Shot in black and white for no reason, follows 4 people doing nothing and fails in portraying the student's movement that serves as a background. it's just boring, I felt that they tried to achieve something like the great "Duck Season" but they failed, if you haven't watched Duck Season, watch that instead.
This just gives me no more material to write about. Describing this in a sentence I'll just go for: A plain road trip with no interesting characters that will waste your time
Fehér isten (2014)
The wrong metaphor
First, It's a very difficult movie to watch, if you are a dog lever above all, don't watch it.
And; while it shows a great effort both at film-making and in dog training, the movie lacks of a lot of things that could make it a great experience: 1) Doesn't feel real: Even the weirdest stories placed in the future or in an imaginary place, need to feel real. Here there are some characters that make it very difficult.
2) Is too long and painful: And don't get me wrong, I know there are lots of people suffering cause the dogs are also suffering, but, what I mean is that it could be more specific, and less painful to watch, they spend too much time with the girl and the dog apart, so it feels false, and it hurts, specially when you want to experience what the director wanted, but it's just not there.
3) They don't spend time where they should: some scenes are perfect, and I appreciate it, cause other way I wouldn't have finished watching, but others needed more time, specially all Lili's interactions and reactions.
4) It feels just crazy: There's no actual beauty in the film, except for the first ten minutes, after that, it feels like a maniac directed this, with a lot of rage in his heart and convincing people that they would teach a lesson, they did, do not watch this movie again.
Down Terrace (2009)
Great FIlm!!! *just kidding*
It's a movie you will enjoy only if you enjoy being cheated.
The music is awful, and it's the only thing I thought it was well executed. The actors are good, but the characters are not worthy. It's never rally developed and it look like a collage of ideas from everywhere with a not really good result. The movie feels cheap instead of home made (I adore cheap films when you don't think about the budget while you are watching) but also, it feels like the people involved never had the courage to accept it wasn't material for a full length movie, maybe a short might have worked well.
Dark comedy never really comes, not at all, since it's not very well justified (not in a poetic, non-sense way), it is just bad written, not absurd, or evil, or with a commentary in human nature, it just repeats what dark humor geniuses have done, without understanding why humor has to be black, but also humor (like Swift, or Marquis de Sade's writing) it felt so superficial that the only funny thing around this movie, is people saying "if you don't think is funny, it's because you are dumb".
This movie is, in my opinion, a waste; of good ideas, of good actors and a waste of the viewers experience, and I feel guilty cause I've spent some time writing about it.
Just watch it if you LOVED Kill List, the whole thing, even the lazy ending.
Import Export (2007)
so good, it gets better with time.
I've seen this movie 4 times, and each one of them it gets better.
The movie is just simple and great taken photographs connecting 2 stories that are actually disconnected but because of the fact that they travel in different directions.
But it is the story of 2 people who are evolving, growing and also failing, fearing, etc. And those 2 people are the perfect pretext to know about other people who are mostly demons ruined because of society.
If you are in the mood for one of the best stories told with minimum resources, but beautifully placed, used, and a profound message of humanity, this is the movie you are looking for.
Orphans (1998)
Unlike anything I've seen before.
Feels sometimes like the great Kunsten at græde i kor, and other times as heavy as any Ulrich Seidl film, but it keeps it funny and moving and deep and interesting all the time in it's very weird and excellent way.
First thing: reading reviews here and everywhere, I know now, that Glaswegians believe that Mullan did an excellent job on portraying them in the movie; which is great, that's the way the movie makes you feel; I found myself visiting another town, another people, hearing them in another accent, but it felt familiar, real, uncomfortable, repulsed, angry, happy, etc.
This is the most important thing, the movie goes all the way deep in every emotion you can feel.
I was laughing since the first minute, almost every scene has its comedic point of view.
And ******spoilers ahead******** having a guy bleeding the hole movie made me super nervous, this is something, I haven't read anywhere, the tension keeps growing in every single story on the film, the girl in the wheelchair, the guy who wants to kill Duncan and the crazy brother in the church, it's like boiling and over cooking something in an old pressure cooker, it feels like it's going to explode, and when it does, it comes to the ridiculous but primary feeling of needing the family.
++++++++spoilers END+++++++++++++++ So it's a movie about the family, and the people surrounding you, but, they happen to be in Scotland.
I've been lucky to find excellent movies lately, I first watched Death at a funeral (the original one), Tucker and Dale vs Evil, A fish called Wanda, Office Space, Seven Psychopaths, and this, Orphans, is the one that made me want to write a review, why? because it's excellent and pure and it proves that humans are evolving but very slowly and it hurts.
Detention (2011)
Mediocre and boring
***spoilers ahead, but it doesn't matter**** I decided to write a review because must of the bad reviews criticize the fact that the movie is confusing and the plot isn't clear, but that is not really relevant in my opinion.
I've enjoyed absurd movies like Funky forest, Ka-boom, or any Monty Phyton, Marx brothers movie, I actually find it better when some or a lot of absurdity is added. But the fact is that this movie is just a try, and it is very sad.
Since the first 10 seconds of the movie, I knew it was going to suck, but I was told that I was going to enjoy it a lot, so I watched it entirely. It starts with a murder, and goes straight to the main character, which is this boring loser girl, so stereotyped it looks always fake, and then she is attempted to be murdered, and then we imminently know who the killer is, but since the writers made this so weak and obvious, they start adding stuff in, what I think was sort of an effort to make the movie worthy, but it never takes off, they try and try to make it fun and dynamic, but it's just chopped in disjointed pieces that never match.
It comes to my attention the fact that some of the reviewers mention the fast pace in the film, cause, to me, it was slow, maybe cause it never really intrigued me.
It's full of clichés, but not in a funny way, looks like they are actually using clichés as resources more than making fun of them.
It's full of references to other movies and series (The Fly, The matrix, Iron Man, etc) but it's never in a clever way, it seems like all the pop culture is added just because, and it never gets to the point where references are actually funny or worth added. I laughed just once, and now I don't remember why.
The time travel makes no sense at all and it's also not fun or funny, so I guess it was just added to try to make a joke (Riley is the girl who goes down in the school stuffed bear). And as in every other aspect of the movie, I think they were trying to make fun of the horror and comedy genres, but they ended just copying the mistakes, instead of doing intelligent comments on how movies suck, or something.
I guess the movie is fun if you enjoy gratuitous references and if just some 90's paraphernalia is shown.
If you are used to intelligent script writing, good characters construction and humor built on effective criticism, this movie is not for you. If you enjoy the "Not another teen movie..." kind of humor, this is not as cheesy, yet funny in that way. So as I said before, I think is mediocre and not worth watching.
(Yet, a lot of reviews say it's awesome, I never really understood why)
