If You're Gone (2019)
Better than expected
They could have cut about 30 minutes and it would have been better. However, the story was excellent and kept my attention. The main star, Macey McLane, who played the main character Lilian, was the primary reason it kept my attention. She was outstanding! She was the best actor by far. There was something about her. Very convincing and real. A beautiful young actress with a lot going for her. I'd like to see her in more movies. Breath of fresh air.
The Choice (2016)
Harsh Critics -Watch it Again!
I'm not usually a fan of these movies, but after reading the reviews from people hating it, I felt compelled to chime in. And for the record, I've never read a Nicholas Sparks novel. As a single man, this wouldn't be my typical movie, but I'm amazed by actress Teresa Palmer. She might be the best unknown actress working today. Her range of roles is impressive. I recently saw her in the "Berlin Syndrome" and "Ride Like a Girl." Two very different roles but excellent and believable in both. She has a certain radiance about her. It is difficult to describe really. She can play serious, romantic, comedic and action roles. Very impressive young lady.
The story itself was a great concept. I might have changed a few things but I'm not sure changes are necessary. The acting was good enough. She and Travis had major chemistry imo. I'm not sure what some people were watching 🤔.
Maggie Grace was outstanding as Travis' sister, maybe her best role ever imo. And the great Tom Wilkinson was cast brilliantly as Travis' father. He was fantastic!! I thought the casting of the primary characters overall was solid.
Just an all-around, feel-good story. Predictable ending? Sure, but it had to be this way.
Meet Joe Black (1998)
A Personal Favorite
I enjoy watching movies that touch me emotionally and this story certainly did not disappoint. Having lost my father many years ago, and my mother more recently, this wonderful story touches on how precious life really is.
I've never been a Brad Pitt fan. I actual think he's not a very good actor but he shined in this role. The chemistry among all the actors was so convincing. Anthony Hopkins was simply magic. This was the best role of his career, a truly great and underrated performance. Every scene he was in was powerful. The range of emotions he shows, and the way he delivers his lines...amazing!
Each time I watch the movie feels like the very first time. It is a testament to the director, writers and actors. It will stand the test of time. Do yourself a favor and watch it!
