Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023)
The Problem is Zachary Levi
The Problem with this movie is Zachary Levi. Until Asher Angel showed up I was totally convinced that Zachary is playing a six year old. The young actor who plays Billy Asher Angel is superb, they should've given him more screen time. And also every other actor in this movie is great... from the child actors to Helen Mirren, who was a joy to watch. Lucy Liu's performance is a bit dull and weaker in comparison to her prior roles but it was a delight to see her on big screen again. But Zachary Levi is just pure cringe. Why does he play this character as if he were an infant? For me it was hard to focus and enjoy the movie because Zachary has a lot of scenes in it and every time he was on I was cringing. His over the top acting is very hard to watch. Other than that it was a decent movie. The special effects were decent. The script could be a bit better, but all in all the movie entertained me.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
A movie for the fans of the game
This is either a movie for the hardcore fans of the original game or for kids up to age 5... If you, like me, are one of the people who never played the game you won't be able to enjoy this movie. This movie is definitely a fan service. Of course I knew about Mario brothers but going into that movie I thought they would give us a movie, some kind of a background story or at least any story, a story. Even I, someone who never played the game, knew about the plot of the game. And the producers or the writers just took the game, games plot and made a longer version of it no deep dives, no explanations just long game introduction scenes... I didn't expect to watch a masterpiece. But at least they could've tried to give us some exciting story, some plot and a less cringeworthy script. I was plainly bored, most of the time. I just wanted it to be over as soon as possible. One thing I couldn't comprehend was that they obviously tried very hard to stay as much true to the game as possible but then again, they chose to give mario a New York accent instead of his landmark Italian accent. Why? What happened to the typical accent of Mario? Why did they choose to go that way? Other thing I don't understand is why did they decide to make two different human designs? If Mario and his brother are humans. Why do all the other people in the human world look different than them? Are they supposed to be small people? Why not make the other people look like Mario and Luigi? By the way Luigi, where was Luigi? It was almost 70% Mario and 30% Luigi I thought the movie is called Mario brothers and not Mario Mario... overall I believe the hard-core fans of the games are going to love it. But the people who never played the game won't. So if you are not interested in the game, don't waste your money on the movie.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
Wet version of the first movie...
It is literally the same story but in water... why bother? Visually, it looks like a very good and a very very long computer game intro... Story-vise extremely dull, predictable and sorry to say but boring... Cameron knows how to press the emotion buttons and that's it... they should make a Disney+ series out of it and not a 3 hours long movie... obviously people don't want complicated stories or good dialogue cause that movie doesn't offer it and still made almost 2 billion... What a world we live in... I would say I am disappointed but I didn't expect much to begin with... First movie was already very dull and boring story-vise but at least it was visually first of its kind and it was worth watching but the second one doesn't even have that pioneer effect it is just milking the cash cow instead of telling a good story.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
Finally
Feels like real Star Trek. Especially the third episode was everything I could ask for. I love this ''every episode a new adventure'' type of trek much more than the soap opera style. Hope they can keep the good work up.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Second time watching changed my rating
After my first time watching the movie I was frustrated and disoriented. I felt betrayed for the sake of Wanda. But after second time watching I understand why they handled her arc as they did. Sometimes we have to just let go and enjoy the ride. The movie itself was very enjoyable.
The Adam Project (2022)
A boring copy of every 80s movie we love
Ryan Reynolds playing Ryan Raynolds -again-, groundbreaking!
The Story is very predictable and also full of plot holes... Full of cliches... He has to have asthma, right? He has to! Every bullied kid has to have asthma. That must be an unwritten Hollywood law or something... Is it really that hard to come up with new ideas?
I think the problem with this movie is that it wants to be everything at the same time. Science fiction, action, family drama, romcom... Unfortunately it fails miserably.
The only thing that was good about this movie is the child actor who plays the young Adam. Everything else is just mediocre. Zoe Saldana playing a -not green- Gamora. Ryan Reynolds is as always himself and Mark Ruffalo has very little screen time just like Garner. SFX are OK for a Tv/Streaming movie...
This felt like a Kids Movie, like one of those you see on Nickelodeon or Disney Kids Channel... If you are between 5 and 12 years old you could enjoy it very much. I fast forwarded a chunk of it just to get over with it.
Nightmare Alley (2021)
Should have been a dia show instead of a movie
I don't know why someone would make a two and a half hour movie to tell nothing... sure it was beautiful to look at. With all that cast how could it not look pretty, right? I couldn't take my eyes of Cate Blanchett in every scene she was in. But even she couldn't save this movie. It was overall boring. Definitely too long. Predictable. Trailer is totally misleading. I dozed off a few times watching this movie.
Swan Song (2021)
I cried, I laughed...
This was a beautiful movie. Loved it! It was a wild ride but I really enjoyed every minute of it. It is obvious that this movie was made with so much love and respect. Udo Kier is magnificent as Pat!
Retfærdighedens ryttere (2020)
WOW
This was a ride! People who give bad reviews because of the story being "unbelievable/ unrealistic" don't get this movie... it was very entertaining. I cried, I laughed and most importantly I really enjoyed it. The acting was superb. The story and the script in perfect balance. From time to time it smacks you down but it gets you up again just as fast. Not for people who are looking for a serious action movie or a sad drama... it has all these elements but in the end it is mainly a "lighthearted dark comedy". And a very good one.
WandaVision: Previously On (2021)
EPIC
Wow. That episode was epic! The best by far! And I dare to say the best thing Marvel gave us until now including the movies. Whoever wrote this episode deserves high praise. Great writing, superb acting and a huge respect for the source material and fans is a obviously the best formula to produce such beautiful piece of work.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Wonder Woman not so wonderful... Sad
I was looking for this movie and was really excited. Without giving any spoilers I can say that it was my greatest disappointment of 2020 so far and not even COVID could top that. Terribly lazy writing, uninspired story, incredibly slow paced, over the top acting... I could go on but I won't. How can someone take something so beautifully done and butcher it? The first movie was so fresh and utterly perfect. Unfortunately the second one is the exact opposite of the first. Why? Just why? I really was ready to like this movie under any circumstance but it just made me incredibly sad and left me confused.
Alien: Covenant (2017)
pure disappointment
well, where do I begin? If you are a fan of original Alien series I am pretty sure that you also are going to be very disappointed after you watch Alien:Covenant. Ridley Scott unfortunately killed Alien forever for me with his last installment. The story-line is very dull and predictable. I almost fell asleep watching this movie. Ridley Scott should let Neill Blomkamp go on with his Alien 5 Project instead of making this purposeless, soulless and boring movie. It is almost a tragedy how Ridley Scott ruins the once innovative and maybe one of the best Sci-fi franchises ever. In my opinion Alien: Covenant damaged Alien franchise more than the Alien vs Predator movies. Sad.
